Musician entomologists

Not quite but this man married Lucy Marianne (1821-1875), sister of Dr Henry Wylde and daughter of "an old Derbyshire family". Dale was three years older than his father-in-law but they had two sons both entomologists Charles William (1851-1906) died unmarried and Edward Robert (1853-1903) of self-inflicted axe wounds(!) who did marry and left a son and daughter but I ramble about my (distant) relations. John William Scott Macfie

This is a bit of a cheek, but you are welcome to ignore it if that is your inclination.

A couple of years back I added a brief entry on a distant relative, John William Scott Macfie, who was an entomologist. I have no idea if he was a good entomologist or a bad entomoligist. Presumably by now he is in any case an "out of fashion" entomoligist. He came from a relatively prosperous and seriously commercial family, and I think his family were surprised, in a proud sort of way, that he was an entomolgist at all. But he was evidently quite bright.

Anyhow, IF you have a moment to check out out the entry and correct or add anything that crosses into one of your own areas of knowledge and interest, that would be interesting for me and would no doubt improve the entry.

Hi Robert. Appears to be treated in most recent books as an insular subspecies of P. polytes. I have added a picture to Platyrhopalopsis although I am determining this merely by appearance. I hope that it is not something confusable. Spent a week in the forests running light traps with some entomologist colleagues. Glossary of entomology terms

Hi, I turn to you because you seem to have quite an editing history with entomology articles. I restored the alphabetic order in the article on entomology terms. It surprised me there are two definitions of alula which are not identical, one being inadequate, while the other occurs to be inaccurate. Inadequate is the one now on top which direct to alula, the feathered thumb of a birds wing. Inaccurate is the bottom definition that directs to calypter. Heaving read the calypter article, it seems desireable to add the terms calypter, distal calypter, lower calypter, proximal calypter, squama, squamula, tegula, and upper calypter. Perhaps an extension/clarification of morphology of Diptera, and an addition to the Alula (disambiguation) page could do the job. Thanks for your work on the crane fly article! I have been watching it for years to keep people from putting fake common names and misleading info in there. I just gave you the above template because there is often so much vandalism on that article that edit summaries help me and other editors know they are legit edits.
