Requesting reconsideration of the World Energy Forum's Wikipedia nomination for deletion
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/World_Energy_Forum_(2nd_nomination) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Swong (talk • contribs) 12:27, 1 April 2015 (UTC) Hello. I would like to dispute the deletion of World Energy Forum. To reduce it to "Just a battleground between promoters and detractors" is simplistic, as the World Energy Forum is an actual organization that is more than acknowledged by the sustainable development community. It is suspect that it should be subject to this level of of scrutiny and categorical dismissal; I can't expect you to make the leap to surmise that heir flaws could be due to mere ignorance of how to create a proper Wikipedia page and/or lack of ability to do the correct PR to give rise to prominent news coverage given their status as a nonprofit who focuses their funds on actual work and not PR. Furthermore, pages of celebrities (biographies of living persons in general) are clearly promotional vehicles, yet they remain as such; there appears to be a bias towards this organization, which, incidentally, only claims to benefit humanity and not a single individual's notoriety--which makes me further question the motivation behind this deletion.
As for the statement that there is "no external coverage to anchor it"—to put it bluntly, this is untrue. There are real conferences and meetings with world leaders taking place; there is news coverage, albeit mostly foreign ones, which you may not consider "real" but in fact, are. I don't think this is a black and white case, and to delete this page delegitimizes the hard work of many staff and volunteers who have devoted their daily lives to this cause. The statements given to support the deletion were blanket and reductive. Please engage in a conscious dialogue over this matter that does not rely on your authority as a veteran Wikipedia editor as the end-all standard for what "counts" and what doesn't. Much obliged. ----terrestria — Preceding unsigned comment added by Swong (talk • contribs) 12:10, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
- @Swong: I am bringing this to the attention of User:Stifle as the administrator who closed the recent deletion discussion on World Energy Forum, as this is the first step if you wish to request a review of the decision. For myself, I stand by my nomination of the article for deletion: others as well as me looked for and failed to find the required "substantial coverage in multiple reliable independent sources". If you consider such coverage exists, you would be well advised to provide links rather than merely assert that it does exist. Location and language of the coverage are not taken into account, but reliability and independence of the article topic certainly are: Noyster (talk), 12:57, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

Thank You! =)

Edit to Himachal pradesh
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Himachal_Pradesh#Demographics Look at collapsable table on right side there are details of data. Based on that calculation 1981 42.48 32.9% 1991 63.86 50.3% 2001 76.48 19.8% 2011 83.78 9.5% From 1981 to 2011 %point doubled almost. which is 100% increase on 1981 data. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 116.202.115.219 (talk) 08:09, 1 May 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing this out, but the references both in the table and in your added sentence need to point to Census India 2011, not 2001. I've restored your wording, please add the reference (I'd do it myself only cannot connect to Census India website at present): Noyster (talk), 08:34, 1 May 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for signing up @ Wikipedia:Labels/Edit quality
We'll be starting the work in earnest tomorrow, but I'm loading sample data into the system today. Please feel free to test the system out until then. All work will be lost when we reload. I'll post here when that happens. --EpochFail (talk • contribs) 13:35, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
Wiki labels edit quality campaign kickoff.
Hi Noyster! We're officially kicking off the Wikipedia:Labels campaign for edit quality. You should be able to load the interface by going to Wikipedia:Labels and clicking "Install the gadget". Once you've installed the gadget, the "Install the gadget" button will be replaced by the "campaigns" listing where you can request worksets from "Edit quality (20k random sample, 2015)". The software is still a little rough around the edges. We'll be on the look-out for your bug reports & feature requests throughout the week. I'll post progress reports on the campaign talk page. Thanks for your help and let me know if you have any questions. --EpochFail (talk • contribs) 05:51, 9 May 2015 (UTC)

Hi I am responding to your message about the deletions in above section. How do you mean I should explain the edits and to whom?? Thank You — Preceding unsigned comment added by Perispomeni (talk • contribs) 07:43, 12 May 2015 (UTC)
- Hello Perispomeni and thanks for your question. When removing material from an article it is recommended to give a reason, e.g. why you considered the information was inaccurate, or was not based on a reliable source. Then any other editor can judge whether the removal was justified and was not vandalism or an attempt to promote a particular point of view.
- There are two places where an explanation can be given:
- If it can be explained in a few words, then it is sufficient to use the edit summary box at the bottom of the editing screen.
- If a more detailed explanation is necessary, it should be added to the article's talk page. Please still use an edit summary, saying, e.g. "See talk page".
- Please see this page for a fuller account of our policies on removal of content: Noyster (talk), 08:01, 12 May 2015 (UTC)
Research
Hey Noyster,
I am a high school student doing the IB (international baccalaureate) and I am doing an extended essay on the topic of information. I find the Wikipedia community especially interesting and I intend to get in contact with a dedicated Wikipedia editor to know more about how this huge wiki is built, its systematic compositions etc. I would really appreciate it if you would spare some time so I could ask you some questions (perhaps on a chat) regarding Wikipedia as a website. Your response would be invaluable.
Thanks, Vincent Walker 112.119.206.218 (talk) 11:59, 12 May 2015 (UTC)
- Hello Vincent and thanks for asking. Before putting questions to any of us could I suggest - if you haven't already - that you do some reading round the subject? Take a look at Wikipedia and About - there is plenty of background information there and links to aspects you may want to follow up in more detail. While you do that, why not register an account yourself and try some small-scale editing? That way you'll get a better feel for Wikipedia from the inside. I've put a welcome message on your talk page with links to help you get started. If you want to come back here a little later with particular questions I'll try to help: Noyster (talk), 12:51, 12 May 2015 (UTC)

How I change STIKI
Why STIKI make my edit change in Prashant Bhushan — Preceding unsigned comment added by Prashantbhukamp (talk • contribs) 20:44, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
- Prashantbhukamp, your edit to Prashant Bhushan was presumably reverted because it was badly spelt and was added to the "lead" of the article - the introductory paragraph - which is intended to be only a summary of the article. I have made an addition to the "Aam Aadmi Party" paragraph of that article to express what I think you meant. This addition is in a more appropriate place and I think better expressed. Thank you for your interest, but may I suggest you read this page before making further edits to Wikipedia: Noyster (talk), 09:02, 11 April 2015 (UTC)
Thank you. I have read your page suggested. What you mean by "lead" of article. Prashantbhukamp (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 16:19, 24 May 2015 (UTC)
- @Prashantbhukamp: The lead section (sometimes spelt "lede") of any Wikipedia article is just the first section - coming above the table of contents. It doesn't have its own heading. The lead is intended as an introduction and summary of the whole article. All the information in the lead should normally be presented in more detail in the appropriate section within the "body" of the article. So if we have something new to add, we insert the full details, with references, in a fitting place in the body. Then if the information seems important enough, we mention it briefly in the lead as well. You can read more about leads here: Noyster (talk), 17:13, 24 May 2015 (UTC)

Sorry for any of work that violates wiki copyright
Hi, Noyster i do not know wiki much, but rarely i update content that is not up to date about few of the articles that i know. i do not have any knowledge on wiki copyright conditions. should not i copy paste content that i read on internet. how to know which content violates copyright. (Sumanthreddi (talk) 18:14, 26 May 2015 (UTC))
- @Sumanthreddi: From one of our major pieces of guidance:
... you must not copy and paste text you find anywhere, except for short quotations, marked as such with quote marks and carefully cited to the source the quote was taken from. New articles and statements added to existing articles may be deleted by others if unreferenced or referenced poorly or if they are copyright violations.
You see, mostly the makers of other websites assert copyright in the content of their websites. Because anything on Wikipedia may be freely copied anywhere, we risk breaching the website owners' copyright if we copy their content into Wikipedia articles. I already linked you the full policy on this. You can use any information you find on the web if you re-state it in your own words and give a reference to show where you found it. Hope it's clear enough now: Noyster (talk), 18:47, 26 May 2015 (UTC)
Hi. I've already asked them numerous times via edit notice to take it to talk per BRD, as have others, they just ignore it, and I've never been one for navigating ANI. - Chrism would like to hear from you 10:34, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
- But yes, message received and understood. - Chrism would like to hear from you 10:43, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
- Chris, "Edit warring noticeboard" is a more targeted venue for cases like this, and can be accessed via Twinkle if you use it. But links to previous entries on talk pages will be expected there. Anyway, hope there will be no need: Noyster (talk), 11:11, 28 May 2015 (UTC)

About your edit of Arnold Mathew. After reading your summary: de-nest notes to avoid cite error
; I reverted your edit; I replaced nested {{efn}} with {{efn-lr}} and added {{notelist-lr}} which corrected the problem by de-nest
ing and left the identical notes clustered together. —BoBoMisiu (talk) 13:58, 29 May 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you for the explanation BoBoMisiu. I have been dealing with a few of the articles with outstanding Cite error messages and have learnt something from your action: although {{efn}} cannot be nested within another {{efn}}, it seems that {{efn-lr}} can be: Noyster (talk), 20:27, 30 May 2015 (UTC)

Nice solution. Thanks! Joshua Jonathan -Let's talk! 13:29, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
- Appreciated Joshua. Something has changed in the basic processing, which has led to certain articles with nested notes or references now throwing errors without having been changed themselves. It's being looked into - see discussion. I've dealt with a few articles on the list - this page shows some forms of nested reference markup that don't work, and plenty that still do: Noyster (talk), 17:52, 1 June 2015 (UTC)

- In this edit, you removed lots of legitimate questions and comments, including half of some discussions. Was there a valid reason for this? Since I couldn't see a logic to it, I reverted the changes. Joseph2302 (talk) 17:41, 9 June 2015 (UTC)

Well thanks for reverting my edit if it did damage. Thanks for putting together such a nice helpful explanation. In three years of fixing references I had not run into nested references until now. Then all at once there was a wholesale #tag:ref to refn conversion producing problems and then the unrelated MediaWiki bug. This makes a very nice reference.
