Proposed merger[edit]

It seems we were both working on the same subject without the other knowing (you beat me by a week!). Please see the discussion at Talk:Axis_capture_of_Tobruk#Proposed_merger. Best regards, Alansplodge (talk) 18:37, 25 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you cancelled my last change. Said Bennigsen was biased when he declared victory. He repulsed every French attack. I know he retreated. But Napoleon did not pursue him, he was also retreated later because of the exsanguination of his army. Then why is Wellington, who retreated after the Battle of Bussaco, considered the victor? Enfeed (talk) 11:07, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Well, that is an intresting point to be taken account by the historians, however, the retreat from Bussaco was more related to what happen during the aftermath, rather than disengaging, Benningsen did not triumph at Eylau, even if he claimed it. (he is the same man who claimed who Friedland was an orderly retreat) and the Russian had a particular tendency to claim victory in defeats back then like at Borodino, in the tactical field the victory was for the french, maybe not strategically but certainly the Russians did not achieve any objective by loosing that field.
