Mirrors

[edit]

Information icon Thanks for contributing to the article Mamady Keïta. However, one of Wikipedia's core policies is that material must be verifiable and attributed to reliable sources. You have recently used citations which copied, or mirrored, material from Wikipedia. This leads to a circular reference and is not acceptable. Most mirrors are clearly labeled as such, but some are in violation of our license and do not provide the correct attribution. Please help by adding alternate sources to the article you edited! If you need any help or clarification, you can look at Help:Contents/Editing Wikipedia or ask at Wikipedia:New contributors' help page, or just ask me. Thank you. Reliable Sources

[edit]

You seem to have added a bunch of sources to cricketing articles, but none of them seem to conform to WP:RS. Many seem to be mirrors of the wiki articles, others seem to be personal blogs / user generated content. Please read the page linked and try to find better references. Spike 'em (talk) 08:51, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

STOP

[edit]

Others have noted this for you but you are adding blatantly bad sources. Sources must be reliable. Consider this a final warning. PRAXIDICAE💕 23:42, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You are continuing to use mirrored sources, I'm taking this to WP:ANI. Spike 'em (talk) 09:24, 17 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I am really sorry for not responding to you all. I never knew that I have messages and warnings on my user page, it was another user that pointed it out to me. I have gone through and read all the guides and the links attached to these messages. I promise to adhere to these guides while adding references or editing Wikipedia. I am a new user and I am learning and hope to be better someday. If in future I make same mistakes, kindly undo my edits and contact me and if I don't reply, please leave a message on my group's page (Igbo Wikimedians User Group), I believe they know more and will alert me on our Whatsapp group. Please note that it was not an intentional act. Kindly bear with me. Thank you all. Nwonwu Uchechukwu P (talk) 07:58, 18 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I have gone through the talk messages that was sent to me and I now understand I went against the Wikipedia editing rules by using inappropriate sources. I am a new user and before now, i didn't really understand how to differentiate between reliable and unreliable sources but during this period of my block , i have read about the WP:RS through these links Wikipedia:Reliable sources, Wikipedia:Potentially unreliable sources, and I clearly understand them now. I sincerely apologize for my misconduct and I promise to put everything i have learnt from WP:RS into practice and adhere to the guides while editing or contributing to Wikipedia. Please note that my actions weren't intentional and I hope to be better someday. please bear with me. Thank you all. Nwonwu Uchechukwu P (talk) 19:49, 19 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the URLs which are unnecessary; simply place the Wikipedia article/page title you want to link to in double brackets; [[Joe Biden]] becomes Joe Biden. 331dot (talk) 08:40, 20 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I have been taught how to add articles references, and citations on Wikipedia. The last training I got was on how to add citations and that was what I was working on before I was blocked due to my unconstructive editing because I was using unreliable sources and I apologize for that. The edits I wish to make is adding citations, and references or any other edits that I am taught or allowed to do in future. Also, What I was doing was not a competition. I am under the IG wiki Liberianshub and I was practicing what I learnt on adding citations but didn't realize I wasn't doing it right, I am deeply sorry for the damages i might have caused in the process. The purpose of my editing is to contribute to Wikipedia and other projects . We all learn everyday and I am now more enlightened on how to go about my editing or whenever I am contributing to Wikipedia and other projects.Thank you all.

I am willing to unblock you if you can explain what was wrong with your past editing and how your future editing will differ from it. The problem with unblocking editors who just say things to the effect "now I understand and I won't do the same again", without clearly saying exact what they won't do again, is that experience over the years is that most often they actually don't understand, so that they do make the same mistakes again. Hi @JBW: Thanks for all you do to ensure users do the right thing. I plead that you unblock Nwonwu Uchechukwu P. I'm sorry for all inconveniences she has caused you and others. We have decided to withdraw from editing Wikipedia for #1Lib1Ref editathon because if our members/users are yet to understand what Wikipedia's reliable source is all about, then there's no need to edit/add citations now or in the future. Kindly reconsider. Thank you! Olugold (talk) 16:30, 29 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The thing i understood was wrong with my past editing was that i abused the editing privileges by using unconstructive references and citations from unreliable sources that do not conform to WP:RS . Everyone says they now understand Wikipedia's rules. How are we supposed to know whether they do or not? You need to show us, not tell us. Make a new unblock request that demonstrates that you understand the rules. For example, tell us what makes a source considered to be reliable. And maybe show us an example of a reliable source. Request reason:

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to appeal the block that was imposed on my account last year due to unconstructive editing and the use of unreliable sources. I understand the concerns raised by the community and sincerely apologize for any disruption caused. Since the block, I have taken significant steps to educate myself about the guidelines and policies that govern Wikipedia's content. I fully acknowledge the importance of reliable sourcing and its critical role in maintaining the integrity of the information presented. To demonstrate my understanding, I would like to outline below the characteristics that make a source considered reliable and provide an example of a reliable source: 1.Expertise and Credibility: Reliable sources are typically authored by individuals or organizations with expertise and credibility in the relevant field or subject matter. 2.Editorial Control and Fact-Checking: Such sources are subject to editorial control and have established mechanisms for fact-checking and accuracy verification. 3. Reliable sources are independent of the subject being discussed and allow for verification of the information presented through citations and references.

Example of a Reliable Source: Book(Published with an identified author) In conclusion, I deeply regret my previous actions and assure you that I have gained a clear understanding of Wikipedia's rules. I am committed to adhering to these guidelines moving forward and contributing constructively to the community. I kindly request that you reconsider the block on my account, allowing me the opportunity to apply my newfound knowledge and contribute positively to Wikipedia once again.Thank you all

I believe that NinjaRobotPirate would like a specific example of a reliable source, not merely a type of one. There are plenty of books that would not be reliable sources for various reasons. 331dot (talk) 17:38, 27 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I am here again, to appeal for an unblock. Firstly, I apologise for my u constructive editing in the past. At that time, I didn't understand fully what reliable sources were and how to use them correctly but during the period of my block, I have taken time to understand what reliable sources means.

From my understanding, a reliable source is a source which the information it provides are accompanied with strong arguments and is verifiable. What this means is that the source of information is trusted to give truthful information with evidences. We have types of reliable sources, such as books, newspapers etc.

For example in Nigeria, there are several Newspapers but not all of them are considered reliable sources, the reason is because sometimes they publish contents that are not varifiable, so people need to consult other Newspapers they trust before they can use the information or even accept it.Some newspapers considered to be reliable in Nigeria are,Punch,Daily Times etc, the reason is because, they are known to publish variable information, accompanied with facts and evidences.

So, if I want to write an article about the recent protest that took place in Nigeria on 1st August, 2024.It was all over social media, Newspapers published it, including blogs. What I will simply do is to consult a secondary source to add to the fact I have gathered (e.g Punch Newspaper, covered it live). Then find published information on the topic, I am writing about from those trusted newspapers and quote them in my writing and include it as my source, because they have variable evidences, like pictures, eye witnesses etc.

I hope I have been able to explain my understanding of what reliable sources are and I apologise once again for my previous unconstructive edits and I promise to adhere to the rules henceforth and only edit projects that I am more knowledgeable about.Nwonwu Uchechukwu P (talk) 16:19, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
