Welcome

[edit]

Hi, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and the articles should only use high quality sources. We cannot cite the encyclopedia, for example. Dawnseeker2000 17:32, 9 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Dawnseeker, I didn't know that. Will make sure that any future citations are to outside sources. OasisCommunications (talk) 18:27, 9 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not embed external internet links into article text, as you did here: Chemuyil Instead, you make a red wikilink: Chemyil, so that someone else sees the red link and writes the missing article. Staszek Lem (talk) 23:32, 9 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

In this case: Instituto Nacional de Antropologia y Historia you may create both red link and a footnote. Same here: Quintana Roo Speleological Society (QRSS) , both redlink and footnote.

In the two latter case I suggest adding footnotes, so that the institution may be quickly found (there may be problems due to differences in spelling, or name change). In the case of Chemuyil there is no problem with internet search. Staszek Lem (talk) 23:32, 9 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello and thanks for this. I don't understand what a red link is or how to make one? I was actually going to write an article about Chemuyil and it's subdivision, Chan Chemuyil, myself - I own property there. Is that allowed?OasisCommunications (talk) 12:52, 24 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You see the red link in my answer: Chemuyil: it is a wikilink that does not lead to an article. It is shown in red color. (if there is an article the wikilinked term is in blue color). As for new article, yes it is allowed (unless you own almost whole Chan Chemuyil.:-) But I suspect that Chan Chemuyl is not notable enough for wikipedia and it will be deleted. We have criteria for notability (WP:NOTABILITY) and for sources which are allowed in wikipedia (WP:RS) Please keep in mind that various travel and marketing sites do not contribute to notability for wikipedia, because their main purpose, marketing, makes them non-neutral, and hence not reliable. But the article about Chemuyil is welcome. Staszek Lem (talk) 16:51, 24 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! If I were to create the article, it would most likely be simply about the town, its history and inhabitants. It's really not a touristy place. I'm still a little confused about the red link, not sure how you make a link without a destination, but I'm sure it will come clear as I work through it. Thanks again. A tag has been placed on your user page, User:OasisCommunications/sandbox, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be advertising which only promotes or publicises someone or something. Promotional editing of any kind is not permitted, whether it be promotion of a person, company, product, group, service, belief, or anything else. This is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages — user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources or advertising space. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Signed,The4lines |||| (You Asked?) Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy or request a change of username.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text

{{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

at the bottom of your talk page. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names.

 Thank you.

Request reason:

The article was requested by a client, I did not see a place where I could provide that information but it was not a secret. The client (Altasciences) saw that they have competitors with active pages, particularly Covance, so they wanted to have a page of their own. If the content is not allowed, I can understand that but I would like to have my page back, please. And if you can let me know why the Covance page is ok, then I can advise my client. Thank you! Decline reason:

This is only a username block; please follow the instructions above to propose a new username and request unblock. I will answer your comments in a moment. 331dot (talk) 16:17, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

The draft you were writing cannot be restored, but the text can be emailed to you if you need it. You seem to have some common misconceptions about what Wikipedia is. Wikipedia is not a place for article subjects to merely tell about themselves(either directly or through a representative). Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, where articles summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage(not just mere mentions, press releases, staff interviews, etc.) say about subjects that meet Wikipedia's special definition of notability. In this case, the definition of a notable company. Wikipedia is not interested in what the subject says about itself, only in what others say about it. Because of this, not every company merits an article here, even within the same field. For example, the 331dot Motor Company would not merit an article just because Ford Motor Company merits an article. Wikipedia does not provide equal time or equal access to all subjects, coverage depends on what independent sources state.

You also will need to (once unblocked) review and formally comply with the paid editing policy(a Wikipedia Terms of Use requirement) as well as the conflict of interest policy. 331dot (talk) 16:24, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I don't need the text back. If you restore my account, I will NOT use it for any paid activity in future. OasisCommunications (talk) 16:37, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

unblock discussion and renaming

[edit]

You can use your own name or even your initials followed by a preposition followed by your current user name. (I can't make stuff like this up.) For example, if I worked for "Widgets LLC," I could use the username "DFOatWidgets". Some of us have learned through bitter experience to not user our own names (cough, cough). I see you are editing on behalf of a client. Please rad and heed WP:COI and WP:PAID. There are some things to do they require. Please see WP:CORP. It may be that Altasciences does not meet those criteria. Oh, it looks like you have agreed to avoid that problem entirely. Please remember. "All content must be cited from reliable sources that are unconnected with the subject and have a reputation for fact checking." I would be happy to rename you if you ping me by placing {{ping|Deepfriedokra}} in your request and sign with 4 ~'s. --Deep fried okra User talk:Deepfriedokra 17:17, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Deepfriedokra: Thank you. I'm done with their request, they are on their own. The sources were good, but not consistently, bla bla, nobody cares... :) OasisCommunications (talk) 17:48, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I received an email that I had a message from Staszek Lem but I don't see anything here. If anyone can tell me whether I still have an account or not, that would be appreciated. :) OasisCommunications (talk) 20:13, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Staszek Lem removed the wikicoding suppressing the function of the ping you made, although it was unnecessary as pings only work when the post in which the ping is made is properly signed. You still have an account, we are just waiting for you to propose a policy-compliant username, perhaps as DeepFriedOkra suggested. 331dot (talk) 20:33, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. --Deep fried okra User talk:Deepfriedokra 20:57, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Obviously the intention of the user was to ping, but as a newcomer, they copied "ping" not from displayed text, but from the wikicode (while editing), with the surrounding "nowiki". Probably, a less confusing way of formatting of the advice would be like that: "... by placing {{ping|Deepfriedokra}} in your request ..." (see the wikicode). Staszek Lem (talk) 06:42, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Well I saw the broken ping, but not the new username. Afraid I won't be available, so the standard in-template rename request will need to serve. --Deep fried okra User talk:Deepfriedokra 12:06, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
