Sorry, I don't have a vectorised image available. I did the map before I had the facility to.

And as to why I did it from backwards... I don't know why, but perhaps at that time they hadn't specified the segments on the website, I can't remember. -- J.P.Lon (talk) 20:34, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. I may create a new vectorised version when I have the time, with the segments. -- J.P.Lon (talk) 20:40, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OldakQuill - regarding your move of the SEA-ME-WE 4 article to a long name form, your actions were incorrect. Wiki supports the use of the most popular usage of the name. In this case, almost ALL submarine cable systems (both international and domestic) utilize some kind of acronym in their naming convention. The SEA-ME-WE series (2, 3, and 4) have always used the acronym. I have restored your edits so the article is under the acronym, as is proper. Please refrain from making such edits in the future until you find out more about the naming convention - as many of the submarine cable articles follow this same convention. Thank you. I have replied on the article talk page. --Oldak Quill 10:15, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

SEA-ME-WE 4[edit]

hello. i changed your edits referencing the cable length because per wp:foot, reference tag placement should follow punctuation. since that particular reference is already being used for that sentence, its placement mid-sentence is incorrect and redundant. also, just matter of style, xxx kilometres long is also redundant as both terms denote distance. cheers! --emerson7 14:00, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Olympic Basketball categories[edit]

Please stop! Please look at the parent Category:Summer Olympic events and you'll see that every sport uses "...at the Olympics" for the category name. Please do not make basketball different from this scheme. — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 18:33, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Alice Hathaway Lee Roosevelt[edit]

An editor has nominated Alice Hathaway Lee Roosevelt, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Alice Hathaway Lee Roosevelt and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 00:59, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Passed away[edit]

Gosh it's amazing how may of these have re-appeared since the last sweep! Rich Farmbrough, 03:14 10 February 2008 (GMT).

Mathews Mar Athanasius Metropolitan[edit]

I have seen your edit for the article, “Mathews Mar Athanasius Metropolitan,” and noted that you have changed the “passed away” to “died.”

Bishops of the Malankara Church (in Kerala , India) were given a Royal title somtime in the fourteenth century. From that time onward they were called “Metropolitan Thirumeni.” So when a Malankara bishop dies, it is announced as “Kaalem Cheythu”, the literal meaning is “passed away.” So in the case of a bishop of the Malanakara Church, the correct and polite word is “Passed away” and not “died”. It is not euphemism.

I am a member of this church and know the customs and traditions of the church. I am sure you will get this word in other articles on Malankar Churches. So please revert your changes in the above article and in any other article that concerns the Thirumenis (bishops) of the Malanakara Church. Thanks. Neduvelilmathew (talk) 06:45, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kindly undo you changes to Marthoma Church and revert from 'died' to 'passed away'. As said above, The Bishops of India are referred to as 'passed away' instead of died.

New policy proposal that may be of interest[edit]

I'm tapping this message out to you because you were involved at the AfDs of Eve Carson or Lauren Burk. Following both of these heated debates, a new proposal has been made for a guideline to aid these contentious debates, which can be found at WP:N/CA. There is a page for comments at Wikipedia talk:Notability (criminal acts)/Opinions should you wish to make a comment. Thanks for your time, and apologies if this was not of interest! Hello. I remember your account getting vandalised - in fact I think I may have alerted you to it at the time. Obviously I now need to check that it was really you who sent the message I just received on wicipedia. Could you please confirm on my talk page? Wikipedia:Articles requested for more than a year[edit]

Hi OldakQuill. With the year almost up, we're making an effort to reduce the number of listings at Wikipedia:Articles requested for more than a year. You've been a big help in the past with that project page and I am hoping that you can knock out a few to contribute to the effort. Thanks. Bebestbe (talk) 20:28, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect of Mobian[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Mobian, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Mobian is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Mobian, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Wikinews and Russert story[edit]

Re this, what I don't understand is why the NYT didn't mention wikinews... Carcharoth (talk) 11:55, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I wasn't clear. Wikinews didn't break the story, but as well as saying "Wikipedia correctly removed it", they could have compared Wikipedia and Wikinews, but sadly no-one does. From "19:59, 13 June 2008 UTC" according to this. Washington is EDT, which is 4 hours behind UTC. Russert's death was put on Wikipedia at 15:01 EDT, which is 19:01 UTC. NBC announced it at 15:39 EDT which is 19:39 UTC. So Wikinews was exactly 20 minutes after that. I wonder if Wikinews has a list of any scoops they got? A tag has been placed on Template:Anotheronlinesource requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

Virus consensus?[edit]

Hi, thanks for your comments and concerns about the article. The edit you made was very helpful. The problem I have is that the article is getting too long. It seems to me that you are worried that the article gives undue weight to viruses of humans. I can see your point, but everything that I have written, about history, (mainly about a plant virus), structure and classification apply to viruses of all species. It was in the Diseases section, where I think your concerns were mostly based. Your edit and my additions to the other species section has helped re-dress the balance I think. Is there any chance of withdrawing your opposition now that we have reached, I hope, a consensus on this? As you know FAC is not a vote; so I have considered your opposition very seriously. Best wishes. Graham. Graham Colm Talk 20:50, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for withdrawing your opposition. I envisage the human disease section might form the basis of a separate article at a later date, leaving a smaller section and a link behind. At the moment, I just want to survive this FAC—I find them a little stressful. Thanks again for the helpful review, I and others, took your comments very seriously and they will remain in my mind as I improve the article. Best wishes, Graham. Orphaned non-free media (File:Château Latour.gif)[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Château Latour.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box.
