WikiProject Musicals

Hi! I'm leaving you this message because your name is listed as a participant in WikiProject Musicals (previously WikiProject Broadway) or I feel you may be interested in the project. It seems that the project has laid dormant for quite awhile, but I would like to work toward getting it up and operative. I have a few ideas that I've outlined on the talk page, and would love your input. Working together, I think we can signifigantly improve the quality of the articles relating to musicals on Wikipedia. —  MusicMaker 06:20, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much for the invite. I would love to join and have placed my name on the page as a participant. I also will add some of the "working files" I have been developing to the page in hopes that this will assist in creating a "things to do" catagory. omtay38 04:12, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent! One word of caution, however: you can't create an article called "Missing Musicals" in the main namespace. Meaning, "Missing Musicals" is inappropriate as an encyclopedia article; outside of Wikipedia, there's nothing called "Missing Musicals" -- see what I mean? It will just end up being deleted. We can definitely create that page, but it would have to be a subpage of something else: most likely of the project page. I'm going to be setting up an article assessment page (at some point) -- this would be the place to list uncreated articles.
Also, we're still tweaking {{Infobox Musical}}. I've noticed that one of your tasks is going through and adding it to various articles -- which is great -- but it would probably be a good idea to hold off on adding any more of them until we get it "finalized". That way, we only have to add it to the article once instead of having to go back and fix things, you know? Just saves everyone a lot of time.
Thanks again for your input, and I look forward to working with you.
—  MusicMaker 04:56, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oops -- you did create it as a subpage of the project. My bad. —  MusicMaker 04:59, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It's alright, I wasn't quite sure I put it in the right place either
I read through the talk page on the project and, thus, will stop adding infoboxes till the box is finished being finalized, however, I have added the sorted list of artices with infoboxes to the page for future use and with a notice that none should be changed till the box is finalized.
I also have looked through the main discussion page and have taken the most predominant questions and added them to the /General discussion page.
I am an avid Musical enthusiast and hope I can be of whatever help possible to this project. :-D omtay38 05:08, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome! Good work on the whole. There's a mockup of the new template here. Any suggestions, join our discussion on his talk page.
I want to start going through the List of musicals and put a template on the talk pages of everything. That way, we'll be able to create an Article Assessment page using "What links here". I'm probably going to start a task page so people can sign up for certain letters of the alphabet so we aren't criss-crossing over each other.
Thanks again! —  MusicMaker 08:10, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the advice

Omtay38,

Thank you for your notification concerning talk pages. I was not aware of the policy in question, but I suppose it is a little rude to remove others comments thanks for bringing it to my attention Rpgsimmaster 08:28, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for reverting the vandalism on my user page. -- Gogo Dodo 04:02, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

BookHopper

Hi Omtay38 I'm sorry that you deleted my posting about BookHopping. I am a virgin Wikipedian and didn't realise I was contravening any standards.

Ok, thanks for the comments on my discussion page - it's good to get a few tips as to the protocols for these things. I agree with your feedback. I thought if I started with a small article then it would grow over time. I'll have a good think about what I'd like to have as a definition of a BookHopper and BookHopping and post something without reference to the site. If it makes any difference BookHopper is a free service which doesn't make money. Thanks for the chat anyway, Neil (BookHopper)

Oh - pps, the two entries were almost the same because I made a mistake in the inputting and by the time I had gone back to put the correct entry into BookHopping you'd marked it for deletion. You're just too quick for me ;) Never mind, Neil.

Speedy deletion

I noticed that you tagged the page BookHopper for speedy deletion with the reason "Seems like an Advertisement. See BookHopping". However, "Seems like an Advertisement. See BookHopping" is not currently one of our criteria for speedy deletion, so I have removed the speedy deletion tag. You can use Wikipedia:Articles for deletion if you still want the page to be deleted. Thanks! Stifle (talk) 22:43, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

Thanks so much for my barnstar! I'm quite flattered. I did revert what the IP you mentioned added back to the Dean Koontz and talking point articles, and although I can't use an anti-vandal tool right now (which is actually how I can watch the IPs in question easily, so don't give me too much credit), I do have the former article on my watchlist and I am adding the second now.
It sure is a pain to deal with persistent edits from dynamic IPs, isn't it? Anyway, I'll try to keep an eye on this guy. Thanks again, and happy editing! -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 17:27, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Saab Bofors Dynamics

It would be incorrect to merge Saab Bofors Dynamics with Bofors, in fact it would be a move in the wrong direction. Saab Bofors Dynamics is a subsidiary of Saab AB and although an outgrowth of the generic Bofors, as is BAE Systems Bofors, they no longer share a common corporate culture. The Bofors page must be rewritten to reflect the historic company and its products up until the division of the companies, but should only include products and history that do not belong to the two current companies. Merging Saab Bofors Dynamics with Bofors would be like merging the US with Great Britain. ColinMarble 06:59, 03 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcoming

Hey, I just saw one of your welcome edits, and there's a bit of a problem...You're only supposed to paste them on the user's talk page. The talk page is for messages, whereas the user page is for the user to use as he/she sees fit. Michael 04:35, 5 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the message. Which user page was it? I know they're posted on the talk page so it was probably an honest mistake. I'm assuming you've fixed it but if not, just tell me which page it was and i'll do so. Thanks! --Michael 04:37, 5 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Albert B. Smith not a hoax

Please search for Albert B. Smith on the following page:

I believe this a reliable source that recounts his history in San Diego.

Message from SwedishConqueror

Hi, I'm SwedishConqueror. I was wondering if you could help me with one thing: whenever I write an article, everything I've typed gets moved over to the side of the screen in a straight line horizontally instead of advancing down the screen. Is there something wrong with my computer? Is there something I need to download?

SwedishConqueror

"Thanks"

That really helped. I didn't realize that you couldn't do indents. But what are those squiggly things you are talking about? Where do I put those? What exactly is it that they do? --SwedishConqueror

How do you decide to...

Just wondering how you become a welcomer? Very new and just curious. Thanks! --Quick study4

Thanks, dude.

Sorry if this is late but thank you for getting rid of that pointless link off of the Magic Woman M artical. This person is trying to sockpuppeting his second account, doesn't he? Well, if he does that again, just get rid of him. Thank you very much for a help. Girla PurpleHeart 21:37, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Hi Again"

Sorry to bother you, but there are a few things I'd like to know. How do you make the headings go all black when you want to make a section? Also, how do you make things go blue, and how do you know when to do that?

I am impressed with your brain. Just thought I would say that. I'm 28 and I know I wasn't that sharp in high school. Did you skip grades or are you in gifted classes? Just curious as usual. Good job. Quick study4 23:24, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image:DHSX-Hall.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:DHSX-Hall.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- – Quadell (talk) (random) 17:22, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nice toolbox

Hi, it looks as if you've been doing some good work around this site, and unlike me you've managed to step back and take a break for quite some time... I found your Tools page useful, and have bookmarked it for future reference. As it sounded as if you wouldn't mind, I also "vandalised" a few typos on your user page. Best wishes for your studies! Come back!

I see you've been gone an awful long time. I hope you come back soon. The Musicals project needs you! -- Ssilvers 19:17, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello!

Sorry, I misunderstood the purpose of that page. I wasn't viewing it as a personal user's page . . . I thought you created it specifically so editors would use it as a guide for what new musical theatre articles needed to be written, then remove the red links once they turned blue. I apologize for the misunderstanding! SFTVLGUY2 13:33, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Anything Goes CD Cover.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Anything Goes CD Cover.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 09:29, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

re:Whoops

No problem, I came across it while editing The Threepenny Opera, noticing that the WikiProject Musicals guidelines were in the article for some reason :). -- Cielomobile talk / contribs 23:05, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome back!

We certainly need you. Around the time you left, all the other active people in the project left, and I have been unable to get people to discuss the project at all. Good developments, however: The guy who was destroying information seems to be on a wikibreak (see the project talk page and Talk:New Girl in Town), and there is an editor called JeanColumbia who is doing a lot of good work, but people are not really collaborating on any projects. There is also a new editor called Broadwaygal, who I think would be pleased to work on any collaborations, but we need a leader. As you may know, I am primarily involved with the G&S project and only moonlight with the musicals project, so I cannot devote the time to being the leader on the project. But I'm glad to help out. So, if you throw out ideas at the project talk page, I'll definitely jump in where I can. Best regards, -- Ssilvers 04:19, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Edit conflicts

We're both working on orphaning those infoboxes, so I'm going to start at the end of {{Infobox Musical}} and work up. Hopefully WP puts them in the same order no matter who is looking at them. I don't know how much work I'm going to get done; I'm supposed to be writing a paper for a friend, but the site I was using for reference is down for maintenance. I don't know when it'll be up, but I really need to get it written for her.... —  MusicMaker 03:53, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

BTW -- should we be replacing them with Infobox 2? Is that going to make more work when we move Infobox 2 to Infobox? —  MusicMaker 03:56, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

We really don't have a choice other than to use Infobox 2 because Infobox one is still outdated. Once infobox 2 is moved, the template will still look fine because of the created re-direct. Then we just go back and change all the "2"'s to "1"'s in the articles and poof' all is well :-). --omtay38 04:34, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, good. I like poof. Very theatrical. (But we're just going to delete the 2s, right?) —  MusicMaker 04:46, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's actually sorta cool how it happens (sorta poof in many ways). When you move a page, whether it be an article or a template, a redirect is placed in the old page that directs to the new page. Moving Infobox 2 to Infobox 1 will create this redirect. What this actually means is that, when the move happens, everything else will appear to stay the same. All the infoboxes will look exactly the same. However, the template will actually be redirecting from Infobox 2 to Infobox 1. This is okay, but not the best of situations. To fix this, we simply go around to everywhere that has Infobox 2 in it and change the 2 to a 1. Then, poof the redirects disappear and, when all are gone, we delete the page for Infobox Musical 2. So it's a little bit more involved that just "poof", but it's pretty close. --omtay38 05:06, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. I'm gonna go to bed for the night so don't feel limited on changin the infoboxes. From the beginning, I got up to Hair. G'd Night.
I'll stick with poof. 'Nite! —  MusicMaker 05:58, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Project tag template

Are you going to make the template so that you can edit it right on each article's talk page to add the class rating? -- Ssilvers 22:57, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes and no, it's sort of in progress. I'm trying to lay down the groundwork to simplify the rating of articles :-D --omtay38 23:00, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I strongly suggest that you eliminate the comment feature. No one ever comments, and if they want to comment, it's a talk page! They can comment on the page. I think the project tag should be as short and streamlined as possible. It's very annoying when a project puts a big fat tag on the talk page of an article that you're working on, and it discourages people from talking on the talk page and contributing to the article, so please, please, keep in mind as you design this, that it should be as small and efficient as possible, and that the task box should not go on automatically unless the editor actually working on the article wants to put on a task or to do box. Thanks! -- Ssilvers 02:08, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

see, there's a problem. In order to keep our basic structure of article assessment the same, the comment feature is necessary. Let me explain: This template is set up to be used by this wikibot. It will count up all the articles by quality and such but the only way to be able to keep specific comments with articles is by using that "comment on feature". I did not write it (honestly, i've written nothing involved in this box) but the bot says that, if comments are to be tied to the assessment of an article, you need to use that code. But i do agree that you are correct. We'll just go with specific to-do spaces on articles. I actually changed my mind while writing this :-D. Thanks! --omtay38 02:14, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am gonna keep the hidden Wikiproject to-do box though. It attracts people to this project and helps with our community improvement things. Hope that's alright. --omtay38 02:16, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject:Musical Theatre

Assessments

Thanks for the message. Yes, I know that I need to add the assessment to the tags, but I was not ready to do so. I wanted to see some of yours and get an idea of how you are judging the articles. I think some of the grading has been rather "strict", but we're just getting started. Best regards, -- Ssilvers 20:50, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ahh, cool cool. :-D --omtay38 22:26, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No problem re: My Fair Lady. It's a close call either way. Can you please separate Act I and Act II in the synopsis? I'm not exactly sure where Act II starts. By the way, for short synopses, where you can see the whole thing in one screen, instead of putting in (===) headings, which clutter up the TOC, I suggest just a bold heading using a semicolon (;) at the margin:

Act I <---Like this.

Thanks! -- Ssilvers 13:45, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AfDs

Please weigh in down there; don't abstain. If you think things should be kept, say so. Like I said, I'm trying to gauge what will be considered notable and what will not -- someone might agree with you. —  MusicMaker 21:50, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was noticing while I was doing something that there's just a little, tiny piece of the 2nd staff line (D) showing to the right of comedy and tragedy. It's not a big deal, but it ends up looking like a random speck if the logo is tiny enough. Fair use rationale for Image:Anything Goes CD Cover.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Anything Goes CD Cover.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:37, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Aint_misbehavin_poster.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Aint_misbehavin_poster.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 07:44, 7 July 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. OsamaK 07:44, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
