Can we talk about Huggle?

I’m reaching out to you because our logs tell us you’re a highly active Huggle user (top 20, actually). The Wikimedia Collaboration Team is researching a project that we hope will be useful to people who use Huggle and others engaged in edit-review and anti-vandalism. Using artificial intelligence programming (in ORES) and other means, we believe we can create feeds of Recent Changes that are better tailored to the type of work you do, helping you to be more effective and efficient. (The technology will have other benefits as well, which we can talk about.)

We're in the early stages of planning this and want to speak with people like yourself to better understand your work, goals and issues. If you’re interested in helping, I’d like to set up a time to meet by video conference, so that you can explain and demonstrate (via screensharing) some of your workflows, and we can ask and answer any questions.

To participate, please email the following information to me, jmatazzoni@wikimedia.org, or send it to designresearch@wikimedia.org:

Description of Vitaly Milonov on LGBT_rights_in_Russia page

Hello,

I have changed the description to be more neutral. The use of the word "activist" while technically accurate by it's dictionary definition is a non-neutral descriptor as "activist" has deeply heroic connotations for most readers. I changed the description to read "promoter of Anti-LGBT sentiment" instead as this is both accurate and neutral unlike the words "activist" and "hatemonger". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.121.78.251 (talk) 05:06, 23 May 2016 (UTC)

Soy sickness

There is a growing number of us, soy sickness. The studies placed on you page are only there to push the full use of soy products. I'm in a living hell because of soy is so widely used in US products. There is no push out there to see the issue of soy if you allow people to push to hide the real issues happening. I'm so sensitive to it now, if my wife eats a Ramen soup that contains soy, 30 minutes later I kissed her and got sick from the soy left in her mouth. I’ve had to throw it all out. Toothpaste, mouthwash, medical pills, everything I own now is compounded. Or made from scratch. I have to peal anything bought at the grocery store, avocados, apples, oranges, they have a soy wax covering it, cutting into it is not an option anymore. pushes the wax into the item.

I cannot eat 98% of the products in the store because of soy. I can’t take any antibiotics without it being compounded. I can’t work on my truck because there is soy in some of the oils used in it. Sheetrock contains it, I breathed in the dust and 8 seconds later I had a reaction. Some Paints contains it. I can’t eat any Hershey's chocolate, or most chocolates, all Advil's contain soy all Bayer products contain soy. My ibuprofen cost me $1 a pill. I went through every pill on the shelf. It all contains soy. Almost all fast food, and most restaurants use soy in there foods. Almost all breads contain soy. I'm running almost caveman diet just to survive. Also any soda with a flavor added contains soy. US is getting a soy overdose, My first reaction to soy was around 19 I had a panic attack, I had been eating allot of fast food at that point after moving out of my parents’ house. The doctors said it was stress. Through the years the panic attacks got more frequent. I has having issues remembering things, like turning of the water after watering my plants outside. Ran up my water bill to 100$. I did that a few times until I put a timer on the hose. Also a fog, I'm surprise I did not kill anyone while driving through those years with that brain fog. Up until a few years ago, the panic attacks were happening about once or twice a day. I had full time short term memory loss. And a brain fog that wouldn't go away. I was suicidal at that point. My mind was a mess, I had thoughts of horrible acts. As mind was falling apart, I lost my company to a hostile takeover.

I started to take one or two children Bayer chewable for chest pains from all the panic attacks. In a few days the chewable put me in the Hospital. Unknowingly I over dosed on soy from the chewable. The children chewable contain a high dose of it. The doctors said I had a huge anxiety attack. And had to give me two shots of Valium. They ran a bunch of test, cat-scan of my head, lots of blood work. In the end they said to see a doctor about stress related illness.

At that point in my life all I thought I could do is kill myself. The panic attacks had reached once an hour. Everyone was saying stress. A few night later a saw a show on john Stewart. When he bought on a guest about Gluten. I cried. The symptoms where very similar. I spoke to my doctor. He said it was very unlikely. Due to the fact the issues I was having, there was no name for it. So I went gluten free, the panic attacks started to subside. My doctor was baffled. My symptoms are not entirely gluten related. I was still having reactions to gluten, I thought and got in quite allot of fights with food shops, only for me to find by mistake a month later when I went gluten free, I decided to eat three small REESE'S Peanut Butter Cups during my new diet and had a gluten reaction so I thought. I looked in the ingredients. No Gluten, but there was soy lecithin. Wow. That was the feeling that overcame me. So I started to reduce the items we thought had soy in it. Boy was I ever wrong. I had to start with fruits and vegetables, and work my way up. Took three days to get the soy out of my system. When that happen I became super soy sensitive. It took a month but found out soy was on some of the fruits and vegetables in a wax form. So after my soy removal. Things I had to remove from my foods. Had to cut out sliced meats from the deli market in the store, all meats processed cut meats have soy in it. Most bacon, most meats. Can’t eat chicken because its fed soy, makes it into the meat. I know because I have a reaction to soy fed chicken, also can’t eat allot of eggs from soy fed chickens. One a day is almost bearable, but if I consume anything else with soy in it, it will hit me hard as a soy reaction. Instant brain fog. So going down the list. I thought I had removed it all, I was still having a few reactions. Took out the food. Noticed it was in the morning when it was stronger. Started to look at other things I did. So I removed the toothpaste. Felt a little better. A few days later still having a soy issue. Mouthwash was next to go. Then a few days later disposable shaving blades had to go, the strip contains soy. Even my shaving cream and aftershave contains soy. So I’m soy free. And Feel super Normal. Have not had a panic attack in a year from my own fruition. The Dust from the sheet rock threw me off. Now I’m having to remove items not included in foods and medical needs. Finding allot of oils contain soy. A cut in my finger is all it takes. 8 seconds later I’m a mess. I held a hair jell bottle in the CVS store, wanted to look at it. 8 Seconds later had soy sickness. That one threw me off. Oil contacted a cut near my cuticle when I did my nails earlier. I’m almost at odds with US products. Soy is in almost everything. I can easily tell you what it’s in, in 8 seconds. Bet you never guess Neosporin has it. Put that on a cut, up until that day I just assumed it was topical. That stuff makes it into the blood stream. 8 seconds later I was a mess. Wiped it off and drank allot of fluids. Took a few hours to leave my system. Called up Neosporin to complain, all I got is what’s your zip code and tell us what you experienced, that was it. They refused to tell me if soy was in the wax. They hid behind their proprietary and said they could not release those disclosures. What really sucks. It’s on Band-Aids. That pads contains soy. I am at a loss here. Heck some of the tea I used to like to drink. I can’t, the teabags have soy in it. I’m really upset at some of the local Fast-food joints, the ones that say it does not contain soy, when in fact it does. Rudy’s BBQ sauces in the prepackage cups contain allot of soy. About killed me.

Allot of companies out there think simply for the fact that soy lecithin does not hurt anyone, because someone said they did extensive research. Is obligated to put it all their product, just for the simple reason it’s the cheapest product to buy and produce. The Description in here suggest its all ok. And no one will have a reaction to it is complete wrong from my stands point. Soy lecithin is viewed as not an issue, when in fact it is. Companies say there product does not contain soy, somewhere along lines, they have excluded soy lecithin from the description of soy. I asked Blue bell if they had soy in there new line, after the shutdown it was not on the packaged where I in fact had a soy response to it. The response was typical from an email from them, Our Product does not contain soy protein. I used to love eating it. Now it one of the items I have to avoid. Because it has soy in the Vanilla. The Most basic ice cream of Bluebell gives me panic attacks. I’m not the only person with this. I have seen many post out there. We are growing, the more soy put out there. The more of us show up. One day they will compare this to the large amounts of panic/anxiety attacks that are increasingly accruing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JohnBurlingame (talkcontribs) 14:52, 23 May 2016 (UTC)

@JohnBurlingame: There is no promotion for or against soy products on Wikipedia. Everything should be neutral. If you believe that the article is not being neutral, you can edit on the condition that your edits must be taken from verifiable sources, and must not be original research or things that you are speaking from personal experience or research without citing the sources of your information. Such edits will most likely be removed due to Wikipedia's rules. Please also read WP:NOT and WP:FIVE to find out more about Wikipedia's policies. @24.108.34.67: Hello there. Your edit can actually be viewed forever in the article's edit history (at https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Tiber_Island&diff=prev&oldid=721528517), unless an admin chooses to remove the edit history, thus the changes will not be viewable. After checking what you wrote, I decided to restore it back to the article. I apologise for my mistake. Optakeover(U)(T)(C) 05:05, 24 May 2016 (UTC)

May 2016

Information icon Hello Optakeover. Thanks for patrolling new pages – it's a very important task! I'm just letting you know, however, that you shouldn't tag pages as lacking context (CSD A1) and content (CSD A3) moments after they are created, as you did at Draft:Vijay singh koranga. It is also suggested that pages that might meet CSD A7 criteria not be tagged for deletion immediately after they are created. It's usually best to wait at least 10–15 minutes for more content to be added if the page is very short, and the articles should not be marked as patrolled. Tagging such pages in a very short space of time may drive away well-meaning contributors, which is not good for Wikipedia. Attack pages (G10), blatant nonsense (G1), copyright violations (G12) and pure vandalism/blatant hoaxes (G3) should of course be tagged and deleted immediately. Thanks. Adam9007 (talk) 15:56, 22 May 2016 (UTC)

@Adam9007: Hi. I'm afraid that I will have to disagree with you. I suggest that you give this article a good look. The article is clearly self-promotional, and as per G11, needs to be fundamentally rewritten, therefore in my opinion it clearly passes G11. The article also fails WP:NOTPROMOTION as can be clearly seen from its content. At this moment, if there is not a chance the article can be rewritten and expanded based on the subject itself, I think we shouldn't waste our time. However since its now controversial, I will be sure to let an admin see to it immediately. Normally I would be bold and tag it myself again. Regards, Optakeover(U)(T)(C) 01:51, 23 May 2016 (UTC)
@Adam9007: After consulting an admin, I retagged the article for G11 and it has been deleted by another admin. Also take note that the article was a recreation of Vijay singh koranga by the same creator, which was also speedily-deleted. For your information and with regards, Optakeover(U)(T)(C) 07:28, 24 May 2016 (UTC)

Nadia Nadim

Hi Optakeover, I recently edited the Nadia Nadim page to say she was born in Herat not Kabul. I didn't know how to add a reference or do it properly but here is the reference so that you can edit it: http://hwcdn.libsyn.com/p/e/a/0/ea0deb4fdf148767/71_WWFShow_04_17_16.mp3?c_id=11495739&expiration=1464185151&hwt=2362a797f469256852813ab1d2330fb9 Thank you for your time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thedexeter (talkcontribs) 11:56, 25 May 2016 (UTC)

@Thedexeter: Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I have reverted back to your edits, and found a link to cite the information. Please see [1] to view the changes. Please do read WP:BLP on the rules of biographies of living persons; content regarding living people must be properly cited with verifiable sources, otherwise they may be removed. This is why articles on living people tend to be more strictly edited. Thank you for your contribution to Wikipedia! Optakeover(U)(T)(C) 12:17, 25 May 2016 (UTC)

Diocese of Ontario

This is all factual. There has been a great deal of media reporting on the abuse in the Diocese for three decades. Why can't this be reported? Institutional abuse is well documented and there is a national discussion in Canada on religious and institutional child abuse. Why are you censoring this?

Since the 1980s there has been a large amount of media reporting of criminal cases and civil lawsuits in the Diocese concerning child abuse allegations by Anglican clergy and staff, and allegations of Corruption by Diocesan officials. Most recently, one of Canada's national networks, CTV Television Network, aired a documentary film on the[ W5] programme called "In the Name of God", which was released on February 6, 2016 along with the launch of the book, "Grenville", by Andrew J. Hale-Byrne. This latest media reporting on CTV highlighted the close relationship between the Anglican Diocese of Ontario, the Community of Jesus and Grenville Christian College. The Toronto Star followed up this reporting on February 29, 2016. The Diocese and was heavily criticized for ordaining the late Rev. Charles Farnsworth without any seminary training or university degree. Previously, Judy Steed wrote in her book “Out Little Secret: Confronting Child Sexual Abuse in Canada” about child abuse that had taken place in the Diocese. Please see Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard#Michael Oulton. You and/or someone else have been REPEATEDLY adding this same block of text to almost every conceivable person or thing connected to this case, while other editors and myself have taken a good look and noted that these links here don't actually refer to the subjects in question directly. Please read WP:BLP carefully. Any contentious material of living people must be sourced properly, otherwise they will be removed on sight. Lastly, if you are or are related to User:Satyrrills5, please stop. Hopping from a user account back to editing anonymously to avoid a block is sock puppetry and you may be blocked under Wikipedia's rules. Pinging Mike V: I have been reverting this anon IP's edits, which were addition of the same block of poorly sourced text we have been trying to redact from the related articles as discussed in BLPN. May be related to blocked user User:Satyrrills5. Optakeover(U)(T)(C) 05:06, 25 May 2016 (UTC)

I am not related to user User:Satyrrills5. Everything in that paragraph is validated by the references. Why are you censoring any reference to the child abuse in the Diocese of Ontario? You can google three decades of child abuse in the Diocese. As a journalist, I find this very disturbing.(talk)

I can provide you lots of this information. I have reported this subject matter in the press you several years and I was alarmed to discover this information removed by Wikipedia editors. This is about an institution that has been written about in the media for years. The Diocese has been named in a number of criminal and civil court cases. Can that not be referenced?! I submit to you this reference. Can this be referenced and if not why. This article clearly names the Diocese in a recent civil action that I have covered. [7] Also, it is my understanding that I can edit without having a login profile. I am happy for my IP address to show as I have nothing to hide. I wish Wikipedia was as transparent and would not censor documented material. Who can I go to complain about this?(talk) —Preceding undated comment added 05:41, 25 May 2016 (UTC)

Like I said, you may discuss it at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard#Michael Oulton, because it is over exactly the stuff you are talking about. I think that you shouldn't just throw a bunch of links at the articles and expect them to speak for themselves; what's more problematic is that the same list of links and the same whole block of text is pasted on multiple articles with the remotest links to the content in question, with rewordings here and there to make it somewhat apply. If the sources do apply, the content should be written in such a way that it directly corresponds to the sources. And once again, please don't throw us a bunch of Amazon links, they could easily be removed as they may be violation of Wikipedia's rules on external links, especially of a commercial nature. Mslexia changes

Hi,

I've tried to edit our Mslexia Wikipedia page as a lot of the info was out of date, but I've had the changes denied as they're "unconstructive". Can you explain why?

Declined speedy deletion nomination of Himanshu Vats

Hello Optakeover. Speedy deletion work is important and I do appreciate the effort. I would just ask that you please review the criteria carefully because accuracy is also important. On that issue, I have declined your speedy deletion nomination of Himanshu Vats as pure vandalism or a blatant hoax under CSD G3. That criterion did not apply because the article is not "blatant and obvious misinformation", it's just an autobiography of a non-notable person. I've speedied it as A7 instead.--McGeddon (talk) 10:06, 26 May 2016 (UTC)

@McGeddon: Thanks for "declining" my CSD nomination. However, you just needed to change it. I agree with you however. Remember for things like Huggle, if an article is tagged incorrectly and I try to use Huggle to retag it, it will give an error that it was already tagged. If it is a CSD for any reason, even if it is wrong an admin will still take a look at it. Thank you, Optakeover(U)(T)(C) 10:11, 26 May 2016 (UTC)
It's not as if its been tagged under the wrong criterion, therefore it's not a CSD. Optakeover(U)(T)(C) 10:14, 26 May 2016 (UTC)
We shouldn't waste the time of admins by tagging things incorrectly and leaving them to sort it out - much more importantly, though, we shouldn't confuse new users by giving them bad feedback about why their contributions aren't appropriate. If we just tell someone that their flimsy autobiography is "pure vandalism", they're forced to guess what that means, and might well decide to post it again slightly differently the next day.
Incorrect tagging is also a problem with Twinkle, but I go back and fix it manually (and delete the user talk page warning) if I realise I've mis-tagged something. --McGeddon (talk) 10:21, 26 May 2016 (UTC)
@McGeddon:I don't mean to argue with you on an admin's work.. But whether it is tagged correctly or incorrectly, they still need to check. It's not like they believe what I say anyway, which is your point. But that saying, they will check and they should be knowing of the criteria as well as I do, and their reason for deletion will most often be correct as per their own assessment (it's so common for admins to not CSD on the original quoted criteria anyway; that is my point). My error was that I glanced through certain sentences of the article which did look like it was vandalism (attack). That was why I tagged it as such. Optakeover(U)(T)(C) 10:24, 26 May 2016 (UTC)
Don't get me wrong, I understand your message and that I tagged it wrongly, and I will make sure not to make the same mistake again. Optakeover(U)(T)(C) 10:27, 26 May 2016 (UTC)
It's still a problem if we're wasting admins' time (checking a "blanked as a courtesy" page requires the admin to open the page history to see what was originally there), and an erroneous tag could be removed by any passing, good-faith editor ("this isn't pure vandalism!") without you necessarily realising that it had gone - at which point the article has already been marked as "reviewed" and might not get checked again for a long while.
But so long as you appreciate that giving new users confusing deletion alerts is also a big problem here, no worries. --McGeddon (talk) 10:47, 26 May 2016 (UTC)
That's fair enough. Thank you for discussing this with me. Optakeover(U)(T)(C) 10:48, 26 May 2016 (UTC)

I didn't realize there was a typo

I didn't realize there was a typo in Shotgun surgery. I read the message as "replacing superfluous uppercase by lowercase is unconstructive". This is not polite. Saying "you inserted a Greek letter" would have been polite. Also the Swoosh smack is unpolite.
