Regarding edits and messages you've sent

Hi, OrderOfTheNerds. I feel the content you've been re-instating, the handles of several Twitter users, violates Wikipedia general stance on promotional content and relevant information. That's regardless if they've been cited by the IAU or not, it's out-of-character for Wikipedia.

If you feel it is relevant, please take it to the talk pages of the various pages and debate it. You don't need to message me about it like you've done, Wikipedia is a very DIY project you don't need to inform users of when you've reverted their edits. But also, the messages you've been sending me are incorrect. You added the censorship template onto my page, when it was not censored. You said I removed the Twitter handles "without adequately explaining why", when I clearly said it was promotional in nature. You've also sent me four separate messages in a row, which is very odd.

I'd also like to note that you've been messaging various other users who are not me. You seem to be a new and somewhat confused Wikipedian, please take more care in the future. 109.79.122.185 (talk) 22:58, 22 September 2020 (UTC)

@109.79.122.185: On the other hand, I feel that you seems to violate the Wikipedia:MOS on weasel words when you choose to make it a little more vague with your cursory interpretation of Wikipedia's promotional guidelines. The thing is, Wikipedia is built on consensus rather than some die hard rule so some content which are apparently not okay for you are allowed to stay up as long as the rest of the editors consented to it simply on grounds of WP:COMMONSENSE. I would also mention WP:READER which dictates that we edit for the readers rather than ourselves. My educated guess is that the large swaths of demographic visiting these kinds of pages would be either A. Astronomical professionals or B. Students.

In the case of former, like I said they would sense something isn't so right and either just put WP:WEASEL template or straightly restoring what he had removed altogether. As for students these would come for Wikipedia be it for pleasure of knowledge or for further research (if they know how to assess the References section) and they would definitely like these trivia tidbits a lot. According to Wikipedia:Readers first, the main purpose of Wikipedia is to provide useful articles for readers. If every tidbits of its kind is gone from Wikipedia people would lose interest quickly because they'd feel that it's as boring as a cardboard. People go to Wikipedia to look for more information, and your cursory interpretation on WP:PROMO won't even help so much with that.

Coincidentally, another user going by the name of User:Viewmont Viking had similar concerns as yours too, but he knows how to drop the proverbial stick and he agreed upon a compromise solution where I would reduce the amount of Twitter handles to a tolerable 1-2. @109.79.122.185: Okay, as you can see at the talk page, an expert on the subject matter has already chimed in saying that since those handles are cited by reliable, independent source which is the IAU, then it's fine to re-add the paragraph and handles back to the articles. Now I'll be a bit more blunt here; if you still be picky about that after this point by breaking 3RR then that's your own problem because by then you would look like those WP:IDONTLIKETHEM naivetes who does not work how Wikipedia operates and sometimes a few of them get kicked out from editing Wikipedia altogether because most of the time we're too fed up with them. My suggestion is that you spend more time in learning and understanding Wikipedia's conventions.-OrderOftheNerds (talk) 11:06, 23 September 2020 (UTC)

@78.152.236.199: I've read through the message which you had later retracted and in the sense of general context I found it problematic that nowadays any attempts at good faith or 'being nice' would be immediately branded as 'condescending'. This, in my opinion would drag all of us further down the so-called polarisation and is not good in the long term. Most of us editors had to deal 24/7 with vandals and otherwise tendentious users so we may be a bit paranoid when coming to things like this. That's something regrettable, it seems.
