Question from Cnxpat (10:07, 25 September 2021)

Hi Oronsay, I am hoping to write biographical portraits of European pioneers to Nairobi, Kenya, and to Chiang Mai, Thailand, where I now live. I plan to go through the Wikipedia learning process stage by stage and welcome ideas and advice for the journey. Paul --Cnxpat (talk) 10:07, 25 September 2021 (UTC)

Hi @Cnxpat: Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your question. Before you launch in, I suggest at articles about similar pioneers that already exist on Wikipedia. You should also check out the Notability guidelines and be aware that you will need good references to back up any claims you make. A good way to begin would be to add a relevant fact to an existing article, along with a reference. Please remember to reword whatever you add to avoid copyright violations. Everything you add should be referenced. I have put some more links to help you on your own Talk page.--Oronsay (talk) 07:03, 28 September 2021 (UTC)

Bravo on Hazel de Berg

Wonderful to see you added Hazel de Berg article. I’m sure she’d have also been a Wikipedian had she the chance, but what a remarkable effort - unique in fact - in recording Australia’s cultural history! Jamesmcardle(talk) 21:23, 1 October 2021 (UTC)

Thank you @Jamesmcardle: Her record (pun intended) is quite astounding. I love finding the interviews that are available online (I have yet to find a list), adding links them on Wikipedia where I can, but particularly listening to her subjects talking about their lives and, if writers, reading samples of their work. Their voices bring them back to life.--Oronsay (talk) 21:31, 1 October 2021 (UTC)

Question from Stephgarbe on Help:Searching (14:13, 5 October 2021)

I am at a loss. I have an acct and noticed a page I like a lot,Brighten a Day,is scheduled for possible deletion and I would like to register my objection to such. Can you tell me how to go about expressing this thought? I am logged in my acoount now.

Thank you.

Brighten a Day page user --Stephgarbe (talk) 14:13, 5 October 2021 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia, @Stephgarbe: and thank you for your question. I am afraid that when I looked for Brighten a Day just now, I found that the article has already been deleted. While I appreciate your wish to help keep the page, you are too late. You will note that the discussion held prior to the decision to delete was quite technical, quoting a number of editing guidelines – WP:GNG, WP:ORG, WP:SUSTAINED, WP:NOTNEWS, WP:NTEMP, WP:TOOSOON and WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. To be able to contribute effectively to a deletion discussion, you would need to read and become familiar with those guidelines.
I recommended you find other articles to add information with references to, where you can develop your editing skills. Also, look for well-sourced articles on the same subject and compare what is missing from the one you want to develop.
Happy editing! and feel free to ask me more questions.--Oronsay (talk) 19:42, 5 October 2021 (UTC)

Question from CandicevUngwyn on Wikipedia:Why create an account? (22:29, 6 October 2021)

Hi I'm Candice, can you please help me with editing my account please, for more security please? --CandicevUngwyn (talk) 22:29, 6 October 2021 (UTC)

Hi @CandicevUngwyn: Welcome to Wikipedia. It appears you have created a username that matches your real name. Is that what you are concerned about? If so, you will need to read about Changing your username but, because you have not made any other edits, you can create another username that is anonymous. Otherwise, personal security on Wikipedia is discussed in this article, Personal security practices. I hope I have addressed your query. Please contact me again, should you have further questions. Happy editing!--Oronsay (talk) 23:33, 6 October 2021 (UTC)

Why my income slow Pls suggest me --Ajay Govindrao Gokhale (talk) 15:34, 7 October 2021 (UTC)

Hi @Ajay Govindrao Gokhale: Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your questions. I draw your attention to #4 in WP:PROMOTION as I see you have started a draft article about yourself, which is inappropriate. Any information you wish to share on Wikipedia about yourself should be put on your User page, i.e. User:Ajay Govindrao Gokhale.--Oronsay (talk) 15:44, 7 October 2021 (UTC)

Question from Manasharyan (17:13, 8 October 2021)

Hello...Is there any limit of editing an article ?? If there is, then will one be restricted for editing ?? And whether we won't be able to edit a particular article after crossing the limit ?? Or is there any chance of crashing of an article after a certain limit ?? --Manasharyan (talk) 17:13, 8 October 2021 (UTC)

Hi @Manasharyan: Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your questions. Most articles may be edited by anyone. Some articles have access restricted when they are constantly vandalised. If you engage in edit warring you may be blocked from editing for a period. If you have a conflict of interest you should declare it and, preferably, add your suggested edits to an article's Talk page rather than the article itself. The Talk page is also where discussion should be held about controversial edits and consensus reached. Every edit that has been made is recorded and may be viewed in the View history tab. Editors may revert to an earlier version of an article in the case of unreferenced material being added, particularly in the case of biographies of living people. That's a lot to take in but, by and large, you should be fine. Happy editing.--Oronsay (talk) 22:30, 8 October 2021 (UTC)

Thanks a lot... Manasharyan (talk) 04:47, 9 October 2021 (UTC)

Question from Osweeney123 (15:51, 22 October 2021)

Hello Oronsay, I am excited to have you as my mentor. I have been working on an article and would like to run it by you for feedback. How do I share the draft with you? Thank you. --Osweeney123 (talk) 15:51, 22 October 2021 (UTC)

Hi @Osweeney123: Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your question. I have found the draft article you have created – Draft:DataXoom Corporation – and made some formatting changes. If you look in View history you will see descriptions of what I have done in the edit summaries. I have two concerns about the article:
  1. What is your connection to the company? If you work directly or indirectly (eg in public relations) for it you should read about WP:COI and declare your possible conflict on your own User page.
  2. It seems a promotional piece, despite your addition of many references (possibly WP:OVERCITE). It will be up to whoever assesses the draft to decide whether it meets Wikipedia's notability criteria for organisations.
When the article is assessed, if it's not accepted you should be told what issues need to be addressed.
Good luck with your editing and feel free to ask more questions.--Oronsay (talk) 19:33, 22 October 2021 (UTC)
