Re:Tennis Events 2

Oh man that took a while to find! It wasn't anything technical, it was a typo! Look at this change and you'll probably see how I broke it. Once I worked out it was one of the if statements not entered right, I stupidly scanned the whole jumbled list, only to find the last one was the one causing the problem :/ Sorry about that! And thanks! rst20xx (talk) 14:17, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Template Merges

Hey, with a little rejigging I was able to merge Template:YearEndChampionships and Template:TennisEvents4 into Template:TennisEventInfo and Template:TennisEvents2, respectively. Basically what it involved was setting up a way so that it's possible to change the text colour depending on the event, much the same as can currently be done with the background colour. If you want to change the text colour for other events, too, look at either of those templates and it's quite easy to work out how to do it now - rst20xx (talk) 15:02, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Hey, similarly, I've now merged Template:GrandSlamOtherEvents into Template:GrandSlamEvents - rst20xx (talk) 15:45, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

Hey - quick request

Can you tag the talk pages of any new articles you make with {{WP-Tennis|class=|importance=}}? Importance should be mid for e.g. ATP Buenos Aires and 2006 Indian Wells Masters, and low for e.g. 2004 ATP Buenos Aires (not a Masters tournament), 2006 Indian Wells Masters - Men's Singles, 2002 Tennis Masters Cup - Singles and 2004 ATP Buenos Aires - Singles. Also, any categories you make should be tagged with {{WP-Tennis|class=Cat|importance=NA}}, and templates with {{WP-Tennis|class=Temp|importance=NA}}. I know WP:Tennis doesn't have a history of tagging its articles well but I'm in the middle of a bit of a tagging spree, and when I finish soon then hopefully all articles should be tagged. But any that have been created since I started are liable to get missed. Thanks a lot, rst20xx (talk) 20:42, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks! rst20xx (talk)

A tag has been placed on Template:1996 ATP Championship Series tournaments requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

2008 Davis Cup

Thanks for pointing out my mistake about Roger Federer on the Davis Cup article - I wasn't thinking! As for you point about POV, the point I was making is that he has often declined to turn out for Switzerland in the Davis Cup. 03md (talk) 14:36, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Cheers for your response. I forgot to take into account about Wawrinka's improved level. I was also wondering whether you would be able to help me improve the individual articles for Masters Series (and 1000 series) events - most of the tournaments only have articles dating back to 2006. Thanks. 03md (talk) 15:36, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Tennis

Do you want me to cover a particular ATP tournament like you have done. 03md (talk) 16:14, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

I've started work on the Indianapolis Tennis Championships articles - I hope to do articles for the whole US Open series before doing some Masters Series articles. 03md (talk) 18:36, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Can you take a look at this page that I have been working on to see if it looks OK before I do any more. I have also created the pages for most ATP Tour years but information needs to be added. 03md (talk) 20:04, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Could you give me some help on how to put in "byes" on 32-team draws. Thanks. 03md (talk) 09:49, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

I have made the changes you recommended to the 2000 RCA Championships main page and am going to do the same with the drawsheets. Could you take a look at it? 03md (talk) 08:31, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

To make it easier when it comes to producing articles for the Masters Series/Super 9 tournaments I have created this template (in a similar style to the F1 article for all races), which shows the articles that are already created. Hope this helps. 03md (talk) 21:31, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, I thought that the pre-2000 tournaments had "Masters" in their name. I will try and do some research to correct the template. Thanks for letting me know. 03md (talk) 21:51, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

I have found the correct names from 1997 to 1999 and added them to the template, along with those from 1994 and 1990. I'm finding it difficult to find it for other pre-2000 years. 03md (talk) 22:16, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

ATP Masters Series

Have you had a chance to correct the template? I have added the Masters Cup/Tour Championships for each year. Could you get back to me soon. 03md (talk) 17:00, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for doing that. I was wondering why you hadn't edited for a while and didn't want to alter it if you were going to. I will carry on with the articles. 03md (talk) 14:04, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Could you take a look at the Masters Series articles I have done so far (check the template to see new additions) - I have only created the main pages (not draws) and on some of the articles I have put paragraphs about participants. They are all done on my other account User:Matcham of the Day 03md (talk) 23:00, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

I was wondering whether you knew where the Stuttgart Masters took place (before moving to Madrid in 2002). Thanks. 03md (talk) 10:40, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Sorry for not being clear - I was actually meaning the stadium that it was held. 03md (talk) 13:35, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Could you take another look at the articles I have been working on (see template below). I have done articles on some touraments stretching back to 1994. At the moment the majority do not have lead section with participant mentioned. Cheers. 03md (talk) 07:09, 22 October 2008 (UTC) {{ATP Masters Series/Super 9 tournaments}}

I created the articles based on the original templates, which had "Stuttgart Masters", not the sponsored name. 03md (talk) 19:37, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

How do you change the colours and names of tournaments in the infobox, as you said could be done. 03md (talk) 17:29, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

I have been doing the articles for the Hamburg Masters from the 1990s under the title "[Year] German Open" with redirects from "German Open (tennis)" but I realised that there was also a women's tournament using this name. I made a template for the WTA tournaments with the name "Berlin Open" but then discovered an ATP tournament with this name. I was wondering what you think these articles should be called. 03md (talk) 22:20, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Done, apart from renaming of main article because there is already a page at "Qatar Telecom German Open" so I have called it "WTA German Open". Feel free to change it. Cheers. 03md (talk) 23:12, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

I realise you are busy with the FA creating but would you be able to check the Masters articles I have done so far and make necessary changes - there are only about 20 more to create. They are in various states of completion at the moment. Totalinarian has started doing some singles draws. Can you let me know soon. 03md (talk) 22:46, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

2008 Tennis Masters Cup

I think that your idea of expansion to make this a featured article is great. Are you planning to do the same for the WTA championships? 03md (talk) 22:14, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Ivanovic

I found 1 of Top 10 Gold Exempt or 2 of 11-20§ and 2 more of 11-30± for Tier III, and a couple of mounts ago I read some text in her web site, that she can't play Luxembourg; but because it is so complicated, I will change my text. :) --Göran S (talk) 18:00, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

If we say why Justine didn't defend her titles, and we say exact date of her retirement; why don't we give explanation why Daniela is not at Linz? --Göran S (talk) 18:04, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Who was faster? :)

I made Template:WTA Tour Tournaments a couple of minutes ago. :P))) I really think that all tournaments must in one template. I found it frustrated when we had for each Tier a different template, there are all on WTA Tour, right? :) --Göran S (talk) 20:34, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

I agree! I made these new articles a couple of days ago, but I didn't want to go "public" on project, because I wanted to make a couple of new proposals, about colours and legend,... Can we wait until Friday, at least with these proposal, because I want to make something else with this proposal. Ok? :) --Göran S (talk) 21:05, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
Can we meet in the middle? See Template:Municipalities of Serbia, can we make two templates in one big one? --Göran S (talk) 15:23, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

Tennis names

Can you give me more details on what this consensus covers? Colonies Chris (talk) 17:20, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

OK, but if that's the consensus, it would be helpful to put a notice to that effect on the pages concerned. I've spent a lot of time on this, much of which will have been wasted. Colonies Chris (talk) 17:31, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
Just to be clear: does this consensus means that diacritics should ony be used for the person who is the subject of the article, or are they acceptable for other players who are referred to in a biographical article? Colonies Chris (talk) 17:37, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Internazionali di Lombardia, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Internazionali di Lombardia has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. (CSD C1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Internazionali di Lombardia, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Pictures

Thanks, I have a backlog of pictures I want to upload from Flickr anyway, and those could prove useful. I've never asked somebody for permission myself, but it seems like a good idea considering that most of the US Open pics are from early in the tournament. There appears to be cause for optimism regarding TMC photos - hopefully the same guy will be there again this year. If not, then you can probably count on me being at London 2009 :) Yohan euan o4 (talk) 21:22, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

I still plan to upload some of the photos from the user aon, and it would be good to use a Murray pic for the final too. Always good to have options, and I believe that Commons should be more than just a repository for the other projects. It can only be a good thing to have a wide array of photos (compare it with Roland Garros...apparently French people don't have cameras). I can move the draws easy enough but the infobox templates I am not too familiar with (I was never involved with them myself). If you want to go over the USO article then by all means do...I plan to put it for Peer Review (not looking forward to) in a week or so.
(N.B. I'm replying here, rather than my own page, as that seems to be your prefered method). Yohan euan o4 (talk) 22:51, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

2008 Tennis Masters Cup - Singles

Hello, my name is Harry Tatlow. I am a former Wikipedia administrator, who has retired due to military commitments.

My friend Larry Stefanki has contacted me, concerned that his contributions to 2008 Tennis Masters Cup - Singles have been labelled as vandalism. Larry is new to Wikipedia, and somewhat of a Luddite, but I can assure you that his tennis knowledge is second to none.

Given the context of the edits - I'm sure you appreciate that your dismissal of Larry's contributions as vandalism is unconstructive, unfrendly and offputting. Larry is a sensitive soul, and I don't want to see his enthusiasm for this wonderful project shaken by such brazen behaviour. I should like to refer you to WP:FAITH, WP:CIV, WP:BITE and WP:VAND. If there's anything else you need help with, please - do not hesitate to ask.

I thank you in anticipation for your co-operation. Harry. 78.145.212.229 (talk) 10:59, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

"Stepanek seems to be seeded, which is actually consistent with the seedings of alternates at the 2005 Tennis Masters Cup" ... take a look at that article at where the winner of the gold group, Nikolay Davydenko, was placed in the draw. Do you want to be consistent or don't you? 86.154.78.61 (talk) 11:12, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Basically, all previous year's articles are wrong aren't they? :( 86.154.78.61 (talk) 11:17, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

2008 Tennis Masters Cup FA push

Looks good. Actually, it looks excellent; this is one of the best articles I have seen produced by WP Tennis. I would recommend nominating the article for Good Article status, then have it copy-edited by someone from WP:PRV (and me, if I have the time). Then submit for a Peer Review. After that, it should be ready. Really, the most pressing need is a copy-edit. You can get that done while the article is at GAC. I will try to help on that end later today. Keep up the good work, Dabomb87 (talk) 14:03, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

In addition to my copy-edits, I am leaving more comments at Talk:2008 Tennis Masters Cup#Things needing clarification. Dabomb87 (talk) 22:27, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

Templates

Go for it! ... but I have only one suggestion... I think the colours are too dark. Why not use colors I made in Tennis Project Talk? They are more "lighter".

And also, I'll be without internet access until some time in January; so take care of tennis articles. :) --Göran S (talk) 16:22, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

Re:Templates Would it best to just to offer the 1000, 500, and 250 ones up at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion instead? if they're never going to be used. Yohan euan o4 (talk) 19:39, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Miami Masters

Can you tell me when the Miami tournament became known as simply "Lipton Championships" rather than "Lipton International Players Championships" because it is not clear in the main article. 03md (talk) 20:06, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Copyeditors

There's a list where you're meant to enter the article you want copyediting about half way down the page...the process I'm entirely unsure of. I don't know whether it sees much traffic either, and it's difficult to tell. Sorry. I've just checked the tennis WikiProject members list -- there's one member, Nishkid64, who isn't all that active on tennis articles, but has a lot of FAs. You could contact him. Yohan euan o4 (talk) 21:08, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Diacritics

While you claim there is consensus not to use diacritics on tennis events articles, I have to point out that there is no specific guideline about this, nor do I actually see a specific article pattern that corroborates this, especially at Croatian tournament articles. I can as well claim that there is consensus to always use diacritics on Croatia-related articles and you can see a lengthy and heated move discussion on Talk:Franjo Tuđman that proves this. Also, check out other articles in Category:PBZ Zagreb Indoors and its subcategories and you'll see that almost all use diacritics on all names or at least according to the article name (e.g. Đoković's article is titled "Novak Djokovic," but Ivanišević's articles is titled "Goran Ivanišević"). As diacritics tend to be a volatile matter here on Wikipedia, I have no intentions of engaging in an edit war and I believe we should continue the discussion here or on my talk page (I'm watching this page, anyway). Admiral Norton (talk) 20:35, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

Yes, the diacritics indeed aren't very often used on the tennis articles you linked to. However, the use of diacritics is not at all that infrequent in Croatia-related and Croatian tennis articles as you might think. Take a look at almost any from thousands of articles about Croatia (even those that are tennis-related) and you'll see diacritics regularly used. Also, if we take WP:UE into account, almost all Croatian tennis players seem to be better known under diacritics versions (see Category:Croatian tennis players), which does question the practice you believe is accepted. Ivanišević is not singled out and neither are Serbian diacritics-sporting players such as Ana Ivanović or Jelena Janković. Actually, Djokovic is the lone wolf in this matter. You can't claim that all tennis editors have adopted the diacritic-less practice, as that would lead to no diacritics being in any of the articles. For one, I sometimes edit articles about Croatian and Serbian tennis and I use diacritics and I can name quite a few users that agree with me. While I do believe you're true about an accepted practice in WP:TENNIS, there seems to be an even more widely accepted practice in WP:CROATIA. Admiral Norton (talk) 21:12, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

Apologies for the name change

Hello, sorry about the bad name change (2008 US Open). I should have known there was some kind of discussion about it before moving it. Dabomb87 (talk) 15:05, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Feel free to undo my move. I can help with the moving of the other articles if you want. Dabomb87 (talk) 15:09, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Tennis tournaments

Do you have a chance to check through the Masters Series and Super 9 tournament articles because I have not added lead sections to all of them? Thanks. 03md (talk) 16:18, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Templates

I have created the following tour templates, based on the 2009 and 2008 ATP/WTA templates which you were working on: Template:2007 ATP Tour, Template:2007 WTA Tour, Template:2006 WTA Tour, Template:2006 ATP Tour, Template:2005 WTA Tour, Template:2005 ATP Tour, Template:2004 WTA Tour and Template:1998 ATP Tour. Would you be able to check through the tournaments listed to check they are accurate? It thought I would help you out a bit. Cheers. 03md (talk) 22:13, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Brasil Open

I was wondering whether the Brasil Open (held between 2000 and 2003 and won by Anastasia Myskina in 2003) was affiliated with the ATP Brasil Open and if so, should there be a table of WTA results from 2000-2003 on that page. There is currently no visible wikilink for this tournament. Also, is there a link for the tennis Open de Espagne - at the moment it directs to a golf tournament. Thanks. 03md (talk) 13:52, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

Do you have any information about the ATP tournaments in Brazil in the early 1990s. On the 1991 ATP Tour there appears to be ATP Guaruja, another one there, one at Sao Paolo and one at Buzios but I can't find links to them. Cheers. 03md (talk) 10:58, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for that info - how do you think the two Guaraja tournaments should be accredited on the 1991 ATP Tour template? The second tournament (played in October 1991 and won by Javier Frana) was played just once. The first one is called ATP Guaraja but the two articles for 1991 cannot go on the same page. 03md (talk) 15:31, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
I have decided to create a page on the male Sao Paolo event (ATP Sao Paulo) with a redirect from Banespa Open. I have added Guaraja II to the ATP Guaruja article with a note of explanation. You can make any changes you like to them. 03md (talk) 12:47, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

ATP Tour yearly articles

I noticed that there was no table on the 1999 ATP Tour article so have copied one from the 2000 ATP Tour article. Would you mind filling it in with the correct tournament data (you can use the 1999 template which should have the correct links. Cheers. 03md (talk) 14:36, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

About the french open winners template color

It's just that the color has been that for a long time, it is a perfect colour for a clay tournament (like the new green is for wimbledon and new yellow for AO (good job there)), but the new one for french open doesn't fit there at all.

And you are changing it in a base of some templates, instead of what tennisexpert would say, some consensus. 62.57.197.191 (talk) 18:58, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

And then look, using your "template" colors, how GS table of rafa nadal would look:

Wins (5)

Year Championship Opponent in Final Score in Final
2005 French Open Argentina Mariano Puerta 6–7(6), 6–3, 6–1, 7–5
2006 French Open (2) Switzerland Roger Federer 1–6, 6–1, 6–4, 7–6(4)
2007 French Open (3) Switzerland Roger Federer 6–3, 4–6, 6–3, 6–4
2008 French Open (4) Switzerland Roger Federer 6–1, 6–3, 6–0
2008 Wimbledon Switzerland Roger Federer 6–4, 6–4, 6–7(5), 6–7(8), 9–7

Runner-ups (2)

Year Championship Opponent in Final Score in Final
2006 Wimbledon Switzerland Roger Federer 6–0, 7–6(5), 6–7(2), 6–3
2007 Wimbledon (2) Switzerland Roger Federer 7–6(7), 4–6, 7–6(3), 2–6, 6–2

ATP World Series

I have created a template along the lines of the Championship Series template, which contains some of the tournament names. Feel free to add tournaments to this template and check the accuracy of links. Cheers. 03md (talk) 18:40, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

I have added all the tournaments that I can from 1990 to 1997 - can you check my links and add any more you can find - I believe that most of it is correct. Thanks. 03md (talk) 12:42, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

Have you had a chance to check the template yet. 03md (talk) 23:15, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

2009 Wimbledon Championships

Why has this article been redirected when the 2009 US Open already has an article (as shown here)? Could it not also be argued that the 2009 French Open (as shown here) should not have an article until March or April, when it has one now? Totalinarian (talk) 15:14, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for your reply. My apologies - when I looked at these pages originally they had had their redirects removed and had articles on the tournaments instead. Totalinarian (talk) 16:47, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

2008 U.S. Open Pictures

Hi Oxford st., you contacted me about a month ago regarding using some of the pictures that I have up on flickr of the 2008 U.S. Open. If you are still interested in using the tennis pictures, please let me know and I will change the licenses on the photos. Thanks again. Saturnshine (talk) 01:58, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
