Thanks for the comment. Goodfellow is a very smart guy and he did do "some" things first but there were are lot of us around all working with the same technology "mobitex" and none of us thought too much about patenting anything. Most of it was obvious. This debate can go on and on, heck there is plenty of debate as to whether Marconi was first. A lot of evidence that Tesla was first but that's another discussion. BTW: Its also a misrepresenation on the New York Times article that NTP kept the information about Goodfellow from RIM. If you look at the picture of "RadioMail" on the Geoff Goodfellow article you will see that that is a RIM Allpoints Device which was created primarily for RadioMail to use on the HP100LX. RIM, RadioMail, Geoff, Lazaridis, Royce, and quite a few others were all involved in this stuff. RadioMail, RAMail, Inter@active Paging all have claims on things that were "first." RadioMail Picture[edit]

I think I went up to Toronto with Ray, Paul and Jim. Not sure if Howard was there or not. As for the picture. Not sure when it was taken. That is my 1993 Jeep Cherokee I am driving (Note: I took the picture while driving and you can see by the speedometer that probably wasn't a good idea.). It's an HP100LX with a RIM Allpoints Card and its running RAMail so probably around 1993. Can't be earlier than 1993 and can't be later than 1995 because we moved to the RIM900 in 1995. Not sure where any of them are. Howard was the last to leave and that was about 4 years ago. I didn't do too many "marketing" type things. I was an employee of RAM Communications Consultants and/or RAM Systems Development and they only had me at RAM Mobile Data things that they needed me at because they had to pay RCC or RSD for my time! Yeah, we called that ACKnowledgement Paging. That was with Martin at RMD. Jim was there. If I am thinking of the same Jim. (We had a couple). Carl and Jim actually had a patent filed for Mobitex file in 1992 Click Here for Details. Howard was there because he came up with the Protocol Motorola used in the Infotac HPID4. RIM[edit]

I don't think that it is a stretch at all to say RIM had the first "killer app" for two-way wireless data. Motorola's 2-WAY Paging product wasn't anywhere near as good as Blackberry.
