This entry 'superceded'[edit]

The entry "Cognitive Bias Mitigation" was superceded by the entry "Cognitive bias mitigation" (caps only change). Thanks, Chiswick Chap... PFConroy (talk) 04:18, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Need for References in Cognitive Bias Mitigation[edit]

What does 'unreferenced section' mean - that there aren't any citations? what about references to other Wikipedia pages? don't they count? (PF Conroy)

Hallo, and welcome to Wikipedia. Yes, it means there are no citations there. Links to other WP articles are not citations, certainly not reliable ones, as WP can be edited by anyone so you can't assume WP is accurate nor use it as a known source. Since we're here, let me add that as an article, Cognitive Bias Mitigation is currently too long, too discursive and very probably too academic for a general WP readership. I accepted it at AfC because it did have sources, but it needs substantial tidying to make it more accessible. The tone (go back and read the paragraph about 'flying a glider') is also distinctly unencyclopedic in places - we are aiming for a quiet, neutral, factual tone, and while everyone appreciates some humour or gentle irony, it isn't really appropriate in a global encyclopedia. But I didn't want to slap too many tags on all at once, and there's time enough (and I hope editors enough) to tidy up useful articles. Well done. with best wishes Chiswick Chap (talk) 08:22, 20 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Many changes made to Cognitive bias mitigation[edit]

Not sure how to request another look at this entry. If Chiswick Chap is listening: many thanks for your suggestions and the tone with which you make them. Another quick sweep would be very much appreciated! PFConroy (talk) 04:16, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've had another look, and I must admit I am quite concerned that the article may be outside Wikipedia's scope. Firstly (and it is hard for a non-specialist to be certain of this), it appears that the article relies heavily on primary (research) sources, as opposed to reliable secondary sources. This matters, because (secondly), it appears that the article then argues a case (or two) using personal knowledge rather than relying on secondary sources. This is called "Original Research" (WP:OR) - indeed, building a case by assembling primary sources is called "OR by synthesis" and is specifically excluded.
It would therefore be deeply reassuring to learn that the article relies for all its arguments on specific secondary sources, which themselves integrate primary research. If there are sections of the article where this is not true (and cannot be made so) they should be removed.
Worrying signs include lists of sources at a single place in the article, implying synthesis, and subsections with no sources, implying original research. Chiswick Chap (talk) 09:20, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
