IUCN status changes[edit]

Hi there. I noticed you've made some changes to the conservation statuses of certain species (e.g. [1], [2]). The consensus on Wikipedia is to include the official IUCN status in the taxbox. In some cases, new information may come to light that suggests a species might be better placed in a different IUCN category. However, unless the official IUCN assessment changes (can be checked through http://www.iucnredlist.org/), the taxobox status should remain as it is. This edit, for example, is misleading, since it implies that Barbourula kalimantanensis is listed as CR on version 3.1 of the IUCN Red List, when it is in fact treated as EN.

There are some exceptions to the above: if the official assessment completely contradicts more recent findings, such as when a species is found to be extant when it was previously listed as extinct, the misleading status should probably be removed altogether (see Hula painted frog, for example). A detailed discussion of a species's conservation status can always be included in the main body of the article, as long as everything can be referenced to reliable sources. mgiganteus1 (talk) 02:05, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Help Survey[edit]

Hi there, my name's Peter Coombe and I'm a Wikimedia Community Fellow working on a project to improve Wikipedia's help system. At the moment I'm trying to learn more about how people use and find the current help pages. If you could help by filling out this brief survey about your experiences, I'd be very grateful. It should take less than 10 minutes, and your responses will not be tied to your username in any way.

Thank you for your time,
