Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page The Smurfs has been reverted. Your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove unwanted links and spam from Wikipedia. The external link you added or changed is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. The external links I reverted were matching the following regex rule(s): rule: 'geocities\.com' (link(s): http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Cinema/3117/sociosmurf2.htm) . If the external link you inserted or changed was to a blog, forum, free web hosting service, or similar site, then please check the information on the external site thorougly. Note that such sites should probably not be linked to if they contain information that is in violation of the creators copyright (see Linking to copyrighted works), or they are not written by a recognised, reliable source. Linking to sites that you are involved with is also strongly discouraged (see conflict of interest).

If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! Unspecified source for Image:Autogtlib.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Autogtlib.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 03:11, 28 July 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? --MifterBot (TalkContribsOwner) 03:11, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source/license for Image:La Queue du Marsupilami.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:La Queue du Marsupilami.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Orphaned non-free media (Image:BDcharacters.gif)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:BDcharacters.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Linking to fan sites

[edit]

You have done a lot of good work on European comics articles, but one thing I think would better be avoided is the linking to fan sites as external links. In general, we only link to sites which either are reliable sources (the official website, the publisher's site, ...) or which contain info from reliable sources. Fan sites contain much correct information, but it is unreliable and unsourced and just as often has serious errors. WP:EL, while not exactly addressing fansites, makes clear what should and should not be linked, and fansits are not in the what should be linked section. I will look it over more carefully and try to answer your specific questions, just give me a few days. This is to let you know I got your message and am working on it. Linking to portals

[edit]

I've started a discussion about this at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Comics#Linking to portals. Your thoughts on this are obviously welcome there. Fram (talk) 07:19, 30 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I saw that you are an administrator able to modify secured templates. Given that a portal dedicated to Bande Dessinée exists, I think it would be a good idea to include a link to this portal in the talk pages of the article related to the subject. The portal has a related work group WikiProject Comics/European comics work group, which is part of the WikiProject Comics. I suggest that the link to the BD portal appears only when the article is part of the European comics work group: in the Comicsproj banner, when one adds Euro=yes, there is a link to the work group that appears. So it would be useful that a link to the portal appear at the same time. If you can modify the banner, thanks. And if possible, could you include the image FrancoBelgianballoon.svg (question of aesthetics) --Pah777 (talk) 19:39, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

While I have indeed done some minor edits to the banner template, I think I'd rather defer to User:Hiding on this, and suggest that he might be the one to ask. - jc37 06:49, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bande Dessinée portal

[edit]

Hmm. If I can work out how to do it, I will, it's a good idea. It might take me a week or so, though. I think I can see how to do it, but finding the time will be the issue, I have a busy week ahead of me next week in real life, and editing these banners is always trickier than they first seem, it takes a couple of hours at least. You okay to leave it to me? Hiding T 21:13, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • The work group and B-Class criteria info is hidden because it makes the template too big at full size, which causes complaints. The consensus is to keep such banners as small as possible. There are even some pages where the template itself is hidden. It's not a huge change to implement things you want, but it's not something I can do this second, I'm working on an article about Wilson of the Wizard right this minute, and once that's done I'm not sure when I will next be on Wikipedia, but I will be happy to make the changes regarding portals which you desire. I guess all I am asking you for is patience. Hope that clarifies. Hiding T 22:08, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Best-selling comics series

[edit]

The problem is that there aren't really reliable figures - I could probably tell you what the best selling US comic book is this year based on the Diamond sales estimates but that isn't a very elegant formulation (and a horrible name for an article). Then what is considered good sales changes over time a 100,000 sales is something they might cross their fingers for but was fairly common a few decades ago (a period for which I don't have sales figures to hand and if I did they wouldn't be comparable with the Diamond ones because the distribution models changed). Then you have trade paperback and graphic novel sales which are, presumably monitored through book store sales figures. It might be there is some good central comics and magazines sales figures somewhere (that give a good long stretch of numbers) but I am not aware of any).

So there are a host of problems but it might be there is a source I am not aware of but that someone might be able to access. That means it is worth exploring - try throwing out a query on the Comics Project talk page and see if anyone comes up with something. (Emperor (talk) 22:03, 7 October 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Speedy deletion of Novedi

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Novedi requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. ninety:one 21:53, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Categories to be rearranged

[edit]

Thanks for the note. On your points:

  • As with other similar categories titles should be moved down into the relevant "PUBLISHER titles" category where they exist and titles should certainly be in the "COUNTRY titles" not the top level country comics category (pretty much the way with all categories - if it is in a category for which a more specific appropriate category exists it should usually be moved into that).
  • On the graphic novel categories there are graphic novels (comics released in book form) that fit in them like Chicken with Plums and The Black Order Brigade (unless those articles are incorrect) but there also seem to be miscategorised articles (those that have appeared in a serialised form and been collected as volumes later - in marketing graphic novel is often used for trade paperbacks when it isn't really accurate which can lead to confusion) and I found this with all the graphic novel categories so if you see anything wrongly categorised then remove them. I'm afraid you can't "demand" that categories but you can nominate them for deletion (CfD) where we can discuss it. However, a quick look through the two graphic novel categories suggests to me (on the basis of the available information) that there are graphic novels published in both countries.

Hope that helps explain things. (Emperor (talk) 21:41, 12 October 2008 (UTC))[reply]

On your points:
  • Comic strips and graphic novels are different formats and it is worthwhile categorising them as it puts them within relevant category structures. I am not sure I understand the second point - we don't assign importance to categories. This is perfectly in line with the way it is done in the various national categories.
  • I'd put the Smurfs in the most specific appropriate category which would appear to be Dupuis.

Sorry I didn't notice the earlier post. I'll read through that now. (Emperor (talk) 22:42, 12 October 2008 (UTC))[reply]

European comics categories

[edit]

OK on your other points:

  • No the current publishing categories covers all types of comics publishers so would include comic magazines - the naming is a legacy of older category naming and I hope to get it fixed in the medium term as it is US-centric and concerns have been raised about the naming in other work groups.
  • If something is in the Franc-Belgian category and it shouldn't be then move it.
  • The comics magazine category was recently deleted as comics magazine means different things in different areas and so a categpry named after it is problematic. I have yet to come up with a good solution to this.
  • Categories are only going to be broad and general - it is the lead that should clarify the specifics.

As I say above - the comics magazines category was deleted and we'd need broad discussion and a consensus. This is probably worth raising at the Comics Project talk page. (Emperor (talk) 22:55, 12 October 2008 (UTC))[reply]

About your question

[edit]

I did not see any mention of Studios Hergé in the Hergé Foundation article. Please note, I did not delete the article, I merely tagged it for deletion. That means an administrator would review the deletion tag and see if it was appropriate to delete the article. In this case, the administrator wrote in the edit summary, while discarding the speedy deletion tag- (decline speedy (but note that when placed the tag was valid)). Antivenin 03:50, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There is no need for that. The admin has mentioned that the redirect is appropriate, so the issue can be dropped. Best to you. Antivenin 09:28, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Autogtlib.gif)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Autogtlib.gif.

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 06:07, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
