Please do not remove content or templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to Joanna Drinkhall, without giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your content removal does not appear constructive and has been reverted. Please make use of the sandbox if you'd like to experiment with test edits. Wikipedia does not need content to be "approved" by organisations or people. Hi there, apologies for this, I am new to editing Wikipedia so may have done things the wrong way.

The situation is this: the pages concerning the top English table tennis players are all inaccurate and outdated.

As Senior Communications Officer at Table Tennis England (or English Table Tennis Association, it is the same organisation), I have liaised with the players to rewrite their profiles. The players themselves have confirmed all content. Is this not acceptable? If not, I would be grateful for any advice about how to proceed.

The bottom line is this: people searching for the players in question would currently get WRONG information from Wiki pages. The changes I made contained CORRECT information, yet all pages have been reverted.

As I say, please provide any relevant advice. My only motivation is to have correct information about table tennis in England on Wikipedia.

Hi Paul, and welcome to Wikipedia.

To answer your question, in short - no.

On Wikipedia, all material must be attributed to a reliable, published source as outlined by Wikipedia's policy No original research. So, whilst I personally have no doubts that your discussions with the players are reliable, in the eyes of Wikipedia those discussions are unreliable as they are not in the form of a published reliable source (ie. a newspaper article).

If you find reliable sources that verify the changes you'd like to be made - by all means, you may change the content and remove the outdated content. However, with that said, removing content that is attributed to a reliable source and then replacing it with original research won't be possible, I'm afraid. You may remove content that isn't attributed to a reliable source (ie. personal information or other content that seems real dubious - per our policies on biographies of living people).

On a seperate note, prior to further editing on those said articles, it may be apropriate that you take a read of Wikipedia's guideline on conflict of interest - seeing as you are Senior Communications Officer at Table Tennis England.

Apart from that, I hope I've made some sense... I understand it is confusing with all the red tape and policies, but there's a purpose. Kind regards, —MelbourneStar☆^talk 11:29, 13 May 2014 (UTC)

I'm sure I can find reliable and neutral sources for the players' information which will hopefully allow these changes to be made.

The conflict of interest is an interesting one, particularly when I come to rewrite the ETTA page to reflect our change of brand to Table Tennis England. We are a non-profit governing body, so I would not be promoting business, financial or personal interests. Also, finding neutral sources might be difficult as our own website is the best resource!

I will bear this advice from the COI page in mind: Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question.

And I'll take the advice about working in the sandbox as well.

I would definately make sure to find reliable sources that are neutral (probably not affiliated with the cause as such) but certainly without a doubt, the content must be written in a neutral point of view.
