hello from newbie

Feel free to ignore me or drop a note on my user page Marinasail 00:30, 23 August 2007 (UTC) I'm just limping around here trying to get a feel for the place. Saw that you started adopt-a-newbie program here, Cool! I'll have to look into that. Not a lotta time but hope to get through the How-To-pages and see if I can get a page up. not much time and schedule about to get worse oh well. It's interesting.

Could you please unprotect this page? I started to take it to WP:RFPP but, after I read that page, it said to talk to the protecting admin first. It seems like some headway is being made on Talk:Anna Svidersky and there is momentum to build consensus and edit this article. Ursasapien (talk) 07:47, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi there. You seem to be offline, so I've unprotected both articles; only fair to let you know. If you disagree, please feel free to reinstate protection. Fvasconcellos (t·c) 17:15, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Haha, no problem

That cake looks delicious. --Closedmouth 12:28, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

I had filed a request for protection, I noticed you were looking at the other requests. There is a blocked user who somehow has the ability to avoid IP blocks, creating at least 4 accounts in one day. I know it is unusual to request semi protection for a talk page, but I think it maybe necessary because the sock is causing major distraction.

Thanks Muntuwandi 12:31, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

RfA

Oh, all right ... I guess we'll see how it goes. Like a lamb being led to the slaughter, I shall go if I must. I see there are not a lot of other candidates at present to be scrutinized, which means extra special attention will be lavished on those few who dare to step into the gauntlet trap. *Sigh*. But I guess it is about time for me to pick up a mop and broom and dustpan already and get to work. Despite my humility, please again accept my thanks for your enduring kindness. --T-dot ( Talk/contribs ) 12:43, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

OK I filled out the questionaire form, but it didn't load onto the general WP:RfA page - is that something you would do manually? Or did I do it wrong...? --T-dot ( Talk/contribs ) 14:39, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy. The first half-day is proving to be a brutal one. But the train is at full steam and I guess we'll have to just wait and see what the Bureaucrats think of it. Whatever happens, I want you to know that your nomination of me was by far the finest I ever saw in any RfA, and I cannot thank you enough for it. --T-dot ( Talk/contribs ) 00:30, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Article

Please return the article on Dvar you deleted. It's an importent band in the Gothic scene and i already had this argument once and gave all the needed links, or at least give me the copy of the article. M.V.E.i. 16:32, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi there - When you create new accounts for the nice folks who request them at WP:ACC, please be sure to add  :{{ACC|c}} ~~~~ to close the request after you've created the account. If you don't, the archiving bot doesn't archive the successful requests, then another admin – for example, me – checks the page and he or she will try to create the accounts only to find they have already been created.

Don't feel bad – I deleted half the damn page once, including the header, and I've only recently lived it down. I wish there was some consistency among the various 'tag here', 'place header here' stuff – one place, you put a tag above the subject heading, another place you put it below the subject heading, another place you want to slug someone with the tag. Took me two months to figure out cascading page protection. (/soapbox)

Who programmed this silly site, anyway? ;-) - KrakatoaKatie 03:27, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

You deleted this on August 16 as a db-self; can you please tell me if there was an actual article or just a sub-stub? Thank you. --NE2 13:25, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

How stubby was it? Was it the kind that would have been better started from scratch? --NE2 14:07, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, that would be nice. I'm not sure if I'm going to create it but there's a good chance. --NE2 14:13, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

It certainly looks good enough for an article. Can you please restore it to New Brunswick Route 103? Thank you. --NE2 14:19, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

According to Wikipedia:Revocation of GFDL is not permitted, I could copy it from Google's cache and credit it to him, and it would satisfy the GFDL, but it would be cleaner to have his name on the revisions. Looking at User:Kirjtc2, I don't think he'd be interested in talking, if he's even monitoring his talk page any more. --NE2 14:30, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
Thanks a lot. Can you get the talk page too, and delete the sandbox? --NE2 14:37, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi, re recently deleted Elliot Cho as a CSD A7. However the article stated that the subject "starred in a number of movies, TV shows and, commercials", which is a claim to notability. Perhaps you would like to reconsider. Dsmdgold 15:08, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

I've been following this article since creation, and its talk page is telling. Here's the situation, as I understand it. There already exists a page for Elliott Cho (note double-t). User:54uc3 created Elliot Cho claiming that he himself is Mr Cho, and that the single t is the correct spelling of his name. I believe he made the page in good faith, wanting to correct what he saw as an error, without realising that the correct thing to do was to argue for the renaming of the Elliott Cho article (WP:COI concerns aside). Now, moving Elliott Cho to Elliot Cho is not going to be uncontroversial. There seems to be evidence online for either spelling. In the article itself, both spellings are used. IMDB lists him as Elliott Cho with an alternate name of Elliot Cho. Online searches give both spellings close to even weighting, and while the double-t spelling is a bit more common, that's not surprising as that is the more common spelling of the name in general. Anyway, the discussion from the now-deleted Elliot Cho talk page would be useful to be kept. What I think I'm going to do is take the discussion I've presented here to Talk:Elliott Cho. I can contact User:54uc3; would you be so kind as to contact other people involved in the discussion on the deleted talk page and let them know? Thanks— Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 15:22, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
Given Timotab's contribution I think this is a clear case for one or the other of the spellings to redirect to the other. I will note that being "completely unsourced and poorly written" are not speedy criteria, and that "starred in a number of movies, TV shows and, commercials" is, in and of itself, a claim to notability. Whether or not that claim is sufficient, because of sourcing or other concerns is not a part of the speedy process and should be dealt with another deletion process, where there are more people watching and a more informed decision may be made. Dsmdgold 15:32, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
I've copied the discussion from the undeleted talk page to Talk:Elliott Cho. Talk:Elliot Cho can be deleted again, and I'm sure we'll work on WP:Consensus on the existing talk page.— Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 15:46, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

I see that we disagree on the interpretation of A7, but, in my opinion, determining whether or not a given role in a movie is important enough to qualify as an assertion of notability is beyond the scope of A7. I would also note that the word "starred" has a significantly different meaning than "appeared". Neither Angus MacInnes nor Phil Brown "starred" in Star Wars, although they both appeared in it. I think that A3 would apply even less than since even a single sentence of meaningfull content disqualifies an article for A3. ("no" is not the same as "not much") This article had two sentences and a poorly formatted filmograhy. Poor formatting does not make content meaningles. Dsmdgold 17:52, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

I've read the deleted version of Elliot Cho and I completely accede to PeaceNT's decision. I also did a quick research on this individual, there seems considerable number of sources but none of them is verifiable. Moreover, Dsmdgold, I think you are getting trouble with WP:SELF. Your opinion on notability is largely based on a sentence from the article itself, which wasn't verified by any reliable sources. The article stating that "starred in a number of movies, TV shows and, commercials" doesn't lead to the conclusion that this person is notable because he starred, not just appeared. Once more, this assertion of notability is absolutely wrong, for no sources can be found to backup that information. Remember that this article may even relate to WP:COI and the editor (a kid, perhaps!) exaggerated himself, violating NPOV, thus undoubtedly the delete action was warranted. @pple 04:02, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
Also, according to this person's modest notability, the word "starred" is totally misused. @pple 04:05, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

Hello :-) It really bothered me that the article on Dvar was deleted because thought i'm not their fan (i'm a more Pink Floyd and Russian rock type), i just know how big they are in the goth-scene in Russia. Nevertheless, after a while i understood it really looked bad. Anyway, now i resumed it re-edited and re-wrote it. It took me a while to formulate how to re-write it. Anyway, check it out please and i hope you like it. The work on it was really harder then it seems. M.V.E.i. 23:14, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

For you, dear Peace. Because let's face it; you're a damn good admin! Always a pleasure to see you around the project, often beating me out for reverts, helping, blocking, and more! Jmlk17 06:17, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

They as i said are big in the Russian goth scene. The problem is that the Russian goth scene is very local. You can find plenty of links of them in Russian, and in Italian a little less. But one administratyor once told me that the Russian links are ok to maximum a Russian administrator can check them. M.V.E.i. 09:03, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

Here you can see a clip a fan made to their song, from the right you can find more. M.V.E.i. 09:11, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
No, i didn't find more English sites (except album reviews, but it's not so considered). There are plenty of Russian once though. but on this site it's written nicely and in English. M.V.E.i. 09:14, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
Why did you delete it? I made it better. M.V.E.i. 09:57, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
Ah it's not you sorry, i hope you could support restoring it. The discussion with the deleting administrator is here. M.V.E.i. 10:01, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
What does it matter in what language are the sources?? I gave one in English. M.V.E.i. 14:14, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
Thats the whole thing, the Russian sources do provide that. Use a Russian administrator for translation. M.V.E.i. 14:22, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
That's the whole thing while it's deleted i can't do and check on it anything. M.V.E.i. 14:52, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
My problem is who to contact? Alex Bakharev already did so much for me and thats why i wouldn't like to trouble him more, and Kuban Kazak is in somthing that has to do with the military service. I know many Russian users here but only those two are administrators. M.V.E.i. 14:58, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

Whew. That wasn't fun. Other people beat me to a lot of em though. Thanks! i said 06:59, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

What the ___ ?

Is there any particular reason why you deleted World War II? I have undone the deletion. Grant | Talk 06:55, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

OK, thanks. I thought it may have been an accident. Grant | Talk 07:08, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Thank you :)

I made massive changes to the page since the initial suggestion to delete. There is no way it could be interpreted as SPAM in its current format. Please undelete it. This is the first time I have ever contributed to Wiki and I have to say that I am very disappointed with the way the admins are handling this. Look at the entry for Expedia and tell me that it is not advertising!!! I am not disregarding your authority but I have restored the page. Please take the time to read it and let me know if you think it is advertising.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Darragh.Flynn (talkcontribs) 09:12, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

== Hi there, me again. I completely understand that there are guidlines. The funny thing is that I used Expedia's site as a guide. Needahotel.com has won tons of official travel industry awards and they were all listed on my first edition of the page. Perhaps if I list them again? --Darragh.Flynn 09:45, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

== Awards listed now. Please let me know your thoughts. --Darragh.Flynn 09:48, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

== Hi there, sorry about the delay. Please see the following site http://www.nitravelnews.com/news-stories/travel-news/suranne-is-voted-a-winner-at-glittering-awards-gala-2004.php. I will list it in the references. I am also going to dig up the same for the other awards. Thanks for taking the time to look into this. I can see you are looking after alot of pages at the moment.--Darragh.Flynn 11:44, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

== You are a gentleman and a scholar. I appreciate your help with the references. I will make sure to reference them as you have shown me. Fingers crossed this end :) --Darragh.Flynn 12:26, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Fictional companies AFD

In light of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of fictional companies in cinema, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of fictional companies in television and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of fictional companies in video games I ask you to reconsider your keep closure of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of fictional companies (2nd nomination). I believe that Mackensen's delete rationale in the two that s/he closed is completely correct and that the arguments in the general AFD, which in large measure focused on list vs category, don't overcome the delete arguments and the basic lack of encyclopedic value.
