Input req.

[edit]

If you're still around, would love your input on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Stub sorting/Naming guidelines#Redrafting, stage 1 (or rather the draft it introduces). — SMcCandlish [talk] [contrib] 01:37, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Some lists of films and a category for deletion

[edit]

Hi, I wanted to let you know that some lists of films are up for deletion: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Films/Categorization#Category:Lists of films with features in common. Not that we will lose anything of great value, just that some editors will miss their playgrownd. But what you are up to is by far more important, so, Best Wishes and Season's Greetings! RFC: Old Farmer's Almanac

[edit]

Hello,

I am an employee of Yankee Publishing, Inc., of Dublin, New Hampshire.

Two months ago, I volunteered to update the Wikipedia listing for The Old Farmer’s Almanac – a publication owned by my employer.

I am contacting you because you have previously edited this listing.

I have endeavored to follow Wikipedia’s guidelines to the best of my knowledge and ability, and would appreciate your input on the RFC I posted today on the Almanac’s discussion page.

Image licensing issues about images you created on the Wikimedia Commons

[edit]

I noticed that you probably made a mistake on some images you created using Image:Nuvola apps aktion.png on the Commons by attempting to release your images into the public domain. However, you cannot release into the public domain what is protected by copyright. Since Image:Nuvola apps aktion.png is licensed under the LGPL and therefore still copyrighted, you must release works based on it under the GPL or LGPL. Otherwise, you technically have violated copyright. The text of the LGPL is linked here. I also left you a message on your talk page on Commons. Please fix this when you get back from Lent. Thank you. Jesse Viviano 05:18, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Film icons

If I tread on your toes in my recent drive to create film-flag icons, please let me know. I hope you are having a nice break and look forward to your return. — WiseKwai 08:58, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikiproject Actors and Filmakers

[edit]

Hey see my proposals at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals#Actor and Filmmakers and the main WP Film and Biography talk page. Know anybody who is interested? Actors and all film people articles need a body on wikipedia to upkeep them asthey need more focus -it would be a part of Biogrpahy and Film. If you are interested or know somebody who would be, please let them know and whether you think it is a good progession for the project or not. Please leave your views at the council or biogrpahy main talk page. THanks. P.S Really missing you!!!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 15:44, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Quick questions. Should I use your {{inc-lit}} for my list of William Monahan's writings? Has it been approved?-BillDeanCarter 20:44, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject_Middle-earth

[edit]
A garden to celebrate your return!

re: Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Middle-earth#Templates_II. This project badly needs a fan involved in the project that is an able template coder, and I thought perhaps you might know one or two people you could ask on behalf of User:Carcharoth (If you do, have them contact: User talk:Carcharoth). Thanks! It's not as holy as eating fish on Fridays (if THAT ever was!), but is in the best traditions of charity per Christ! (Enjoy the time away!) Long time, no see! Best regards, // FrankB 17:23, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the greeting!

Country/Genre categorization issue

[edit]

I hope you had a nice Easter. Your self-control was exemplary. Whenever you feel like resumimng, there is a film categorization puzzle waiting for your opinion. It's about films removed from the country category and placed in intersections of country-genres. Hoverfish Talk 23:42, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Glad you're back with us. I didn't send you an email during your break. My last one was on 2/2/07. I hope no one else used my name, in which case, please let me know. The categorization arguments quited down since. I guess the user who broke Category:Canadian films in Canadian genres argued himself out of having to put them back. Well, as usual, I am doing the repairs. Good oportunity to familiarize myself with Canadian films and do some additianal minor changes here and there (part of the "alawys look at the brigh side" thing). I even add a special hidden warning not to remove the 3 primary categories Year, Country, Language. I don't care so much that from these articles also the main genre cats were removed in favour of the cross-cats, as we are not using them as an index. But the country film cats we link to from several navigations and lists as an "A-Z of films". I have also gone deeper into all this tech discussion about the software that will produce intersection cats on demend. The jargon goes over my head, but from what I read, it seems like the day will come soon when you can just check on two primary categories (or whatever way they do this) and you get within seconds the intersection. This means primary categories will have to be populated. I hope by then I manage to get AWB running on my computer. I also start understanding why (in the archived talk) Samuel Wantman wanted to have all films in cat:Films. It's about an even faster method where only this cat gets scanned to produce filtered results according to which sub-cat is called. But I remain opposed until technology makes the leap. Anyway let me not give you a headacke with all this. Hoverfish Talk 07:36, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

From Mr. Blofeld

[edit]

Hurahhhh! Welcome back!!!! Hope you had a great Easter. Wow I admire your devotion. Shows a strong character!! It seems ages since you have been away -the article count as gone up about 50,000 I think!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 15:04, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've become a Sir since you were departed!!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 08:47, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes unfortunately User:Bearcat has decided to affect the A-Z Category of Canadian films by all sorts of genre categories and Hoverfish is having to repair it!!! I don't have a problem with genre ordering if they are in lists not cateogries. Hey do you know about the new Wikipedia:WikiProject Actors and Filmmakers? I managed to get it started but it still needs a lot of work to set up fully ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 08:51, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

CfD of actors films

[edit]

One more spot where your assistance may be of big help. See Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2007 April 12#Comedy films by actor. I have some doubts some are not exactly "actor" categories, but series or character ones. Hoverfish Talk 06:16, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I just wanted to let you know that although the above CfD closed as rename. There is a review at Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2007 April 18. I asked Otto to let me know what he intends to nominate in Category:Films further, to get an idea what he is up to and suggest it for consensus in WPFilms categorzation, but I am not sure if he has a concrete scheme or if he cares for project consensus at all. The one thing that bothers me is that these CfD's happen with no project notification, so if we don't watch it very carefully, we will end up with some holes here and some holes there and we will have to try to make sense from what remains. I am not sure how to proceed. Hoverfish Talk 17:18, 19 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I commented at the review. I am not sure if Otto or whoever else follows this line of action wants to have WP Films interfere with the CfD's. I hear that a lot of "policing" is going on in categories but I do not find any side that has a clearly defined aim. They say they want to "cut down cruft". Well, so do I, but I don't want to learn from others what is cruft and what not, without our project taking part in defining it. I would keep a watch in CfD's, but I have PC problems and I'll be only marginally there for the next week or so. Instead of sleuthing after isolated actions I want to bring the issue up in some more central place, other than the Reichstag. WP Council and WP Categories have both their pros and cons. I'll think about it. Hoverfish Talk 18:40, 19 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Backyardigans.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Backyardigans.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BigDT (416) 06:47, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki film shortcuts

[edit]

I'm not sure what they are officially called, but I have a question about the shortcuts used to create pre-determined external links like {{imdb name|id=0000881|name=Michael Bay}} (taken from Wikipedia:WikiProject Films/Style guidelines): is there a "clean" list of them somewhere? By that I mean, awaiting the proper info like this: {{imdb name|id=|name=}}.

For that matter, is there also a seperate master list of them for other subjects and wiki policy? I notice that must be using them to add wiki policy notes in edit summaries. Thanks for any help you can supply. RoyBatty42 19:09, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am posting this message to all participants so far in the 2007 April 22 CfD for Category:Films_by_author, because there appears to be a consensus to keep this category, and also to standardise the naming format. However there is so far no consensus on what format should be used for the standardisation. I have no opinion on any of this myself, but have suggested that this CfD be left open a little longer for discussion of the renaming, and you may wish to revisit the CfD to clarify your preferences ... otherwise I think it is likely that we will likely have anoter CfD on the same categories, which seems like avoidable duplication of effort. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 12:59, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
