Thomas Lascelles

I'm interested in what your interest is in Thomas Lascelles & any further info you might have on him (the Mount Grace one). I'm afraid I have more to contribute in terms of doubts than certain information. Thus, while the source I have quoted proves that Thomas Lascelles of Mount Grace was a different man to the M.P., it also remains mere conjecture (though highly probable) that he was the son of the Lascelles of Sowerby family man born in 1624 (though I have not challenged this assertion in the Wikipedia article). The author of the article on Thomas Lascelles in the History of Parliament has simply assumed that a string of references to "Thomas Lascelles" apply to the same man when this is demonstrably false, and he has offered no forum for challenging his simplistic and entirely novel assertions. I have given clear documentary evidence for the little I have challenged.

That annoys me - I relied on that source and considered it reliable - that will teach me! Are you willing to share what you have on that part of the Lascelles family? In particular, I'd be interested to see the document re the dipute. The Chancery suit is in the National Archives and very long. I don't have a photocopy. As requested, I'm copying my information on Thomas of Mount Grace, though I don't expect it will come out clearly in this format: Thomas, Capt. in the Parliamentary army; in arms for Parliament ca. 1645-53+; bought the sequestered manor of East Harlsey, Yorks. 1651, which allowed to compound for Jan. 1652/3, but sold 1654; bought the manor of Mount Grace, East Harlsey, Yorks. 1653; took his company under Maj.Gen. Harrison into the North March 1650/1; m. Ruth (living 1681) dau. of -----; & d. soon after Oct. 1658, having had issue by her: 1 Thomas, Gent.; of Crossgate, co. Durham; b. May 1647; m. 9 Dec. 1669 Frances (living mid 1673) dau. of William Heighington of Durham, & later wife of James Church of Durham, Attorney-at-law; & d. 1672, having had issue by her:

       1      Thomas;  of Mount Grace in the parish of East Harlsey, Yorks.;  bapt. 27 Oct. 1670 at St. Margaret’s, Durham;
