A tag has been placed on Draft:Richard Scheffler, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

Hello. Another editor reverted the speedy deletion tag, after I had notified you, and deletion is not pending. He also considers the draft to be promotional but believes that this is something that should be worked on. I'll be able to help you a bit more later. —Alalch E. 09:41, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Alalch,
I appreciate your timely reply. Thank you for reverting the speedy deletion tag and your willingness to help out on this. Let me know how I can assist so that this entry can be published on Wikipedia.

It is intended to benefit the general public (readers) on the role that Dr. Scheffer has played in public health, including making it more accessible for all Californians. The organization that Dr. Scheffler belongs to is a non-profit and the funding is provided by the Office of the Attorney General for California and other non-profit foundations or institutions that include UC Berkeley, the Commonwealth Fund, and the CA Healthcare Foundation.
In line with Wikipedia's mission, I will ensure that the content written is fair, accurate, and has a straightforward “just-the-facts” manner. The writing will not be argumentative, opinionated, or promotional in nature.
Thank you for your consideration in advance.

I am accepting the article as I view him as notable. However it may be deleted again. You need to increase the sources and make sure that there is adequate different from other versions. I suggest getting advice on editing it. Ldm1954 (talk) 12:10, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your note. In my current version, I have listed 42 references as reputable sources, which is ample.
Since you view Distinguished Professor Richard Scheffler as notable—could you please respectfully regard these references as sufficient for publication? Persephone313 (talk) 05:58, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Don't fight me, as I approved the article. You need to resolve the issues others have raised or someone else may delete the article. Ldm1954 (talk) 08:15, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Pardon me if my note came across as antagonistic. Do you know if there are third party advisors to help get this content published? Persephone313 (talk) 04:48, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It is published! You should go to some of the help sources for advice on how to improve the article. Ldm1954 (talk) 07:21, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Some suggestions below. For help try WP:Teahouse and also look at Help:Contents.
  • You need to resolve the COI. This needs to be on your page – you should create your user page. You will need to find someone else who does not have a COI to do some editing (not me).
  • Using his faculty or other professional pages is not independently verifiable. For instance, his PhD thesis it is probably scanned somewhere on the web, use that, maybe also his MA. I noticed he is on “Academic Tree” but does not have mentors included.
  • You do not have independent sources for his career. Some will be hard, but as one example there should be a press announcement for his Distinguished Chair position.
  • Fulbright scholar announcements should be archived somewhere, you have to search.
  • You make statements such as “impact on global health economics is prominent in workforce policy”. While this might be true, you include nothing to verify this statement – hence the “advertising” label. There are many statements in his “Contributions and Publications” which have no independent sources to establish their correctness. Don't overstate, there is no need and it can antagonize editors.
  • Another example is “Scheffler authored a seminal book”. No source is provided to validate that it is “seminal”, including the unsourced Publishers Weekly quote.
  • In the awards, many are not notable: Teaching Excellence; Investigator award. Also reduce the details of the Fulbright
  • Birth certificates and marriage certificates are public records. While few find them, it is a good idea to use them (search).

Thank you for outlining the suggestions. They are very helpful. Persephone313 (talk) 01:27, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello,
I have now addressed these. The references now include: PhD thesis from an independent source, CV from the CA Department of Insurance, Fulbright scholar announcement, and the Publishers Weekly quote. I have updated the sentences you flagged and the awards section according to your suggestions.
I hope that these will improve the page's class and visibility.
Thank you. Persephone313 (talk) 02:52, 16 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
A good improvement, although there is more. I went through and added some links (not all), made sure that UCSF was defined fully, also UC Berkeley (before 2nd use), and corrected the link to his thesis. Please go through carefully, the same diligence as when you are constructing a journal publication. Ldm1954 (talk) 16:31, 16 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your assistance.
I have gone through each sentence on the page, and as applicable, included a reference for the sentence in question.
I had already fully defined UC Berkeley in the first paragraph, so I moved your hyperlink there. I have also added hyperlinks throughout the page following your example.
Please kindly review this latest iteration. Thanks again. Persephone313 (talk) 06:49, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Good job. I removed some of the cautions at the top, but had to leave the "primary sources" one as too many of the citations are his papers. I recognize it may be hard to find independent ones, but some other editor will probably readd the caution if I remove it -- it is a valid criticism. Ldm1954 (talk) 11:36, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you.
The Wikipedia page for Stephen P. Hinshaw, one of Richard Scheffler’s co-authors, now has a hyperlink to this page. Hence, would you please kindly remove the “orphan” tag on Richard Scheffler’s page? Persephone313 (talk) 03:20, 19 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello,
Thank you for removing the orphan tag. I’d like to address the others:
1. I have edited the sources and replaced some of the primary sources with secondary sources. Now, 31 of the 45 sources are secondary. I believe that the page no longer “relies too much on references to primary sources.” As for the primary sources that remain, those are references to Scheffler’s research findings.
2. I have added categories to the article per the instructions at the bottom.
Would you kindly remove these tags as well, or tell me what else I can do to get them removed? Persephone313 (talk) 19:16, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello,
Thanks again for the last iteration of help.
Wanted to check in on my last correspondence regarding the two changes I made (primary to secondary sources and adding categories).
Please kindly remove the page issue regarding over-reliance on primary sources. Persephone313 (talk) 05:55, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I removed it, as 27/45 is not a bad ratio for an academic. Hopefully nobody will add it back. I think it is now in good shape. Ldm1954 (talk) 03:35, 3 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for taking the time and effort in providing continued feedback.
We consider the page to be done at this point and I respectfully ask for other Wikipedia staff not to put the warning back.
Again, appreciate all of the guidance and assistance along the way to get the page to this point. Persephone313 (talk) 04:43, 3 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
