A pornograph is a small device that plays sounds; specifically sounds associated with pornography, hence the name Pornograph. The name itself comes from a pun on Thomas Edison's invention, phonograph. The pornograph was not invented by him, but was a result of a clever pun, replacing phono with porno. The device has wide appeal among college students, who enjoy the chic ness of the pornograph and think the sounds it produces (generally the moaning of woman as they reach sexual climax during intercourse or the sound of a man beating off) to be humorous. The sounds are recorded on wax cylinders, similar to the original phonograph. The sound is emitted by a wide cone.
