Contested deletion of Mobi Okoli.

Hi there. You removed the PROD-tag on Mobi Okoli the other day, with the rationale "contest deletion - passes WP:NFOOTY". Giving such a specific reason for contesting a deletion is very good, for I would encourage you to actually read the policy that you claim Okoli passes (now he passes it, after making his debut in Tippeligaen on 29 April). WP:NFOOTY specifically claims that "players who have appeared, and managers who have managed, in a fully professional league, will generally be regarded as notable." - and when you removed the PROD-tag there were no indication in his article that he had played in a fully professional league, which in Norway is only Tippeligaen, not Adeccoligaen. Ganda Singh

Hi, given that you removed the PROD at Ganda Singh, I have stripped the article right back. It is hopeless, although perhaps you are not aware of the transliteration issues that are involved. Aside from being unsourced until your edit, there are numerous Ganda/Gandha/Gainda etc Singhs who were Indian revolutionaries/independence activists and at least two who were involved with the Ghadar movement. All the stuff concerning migration to Canada etc is ludicrous in this situation and even that source that you added makes a distinction between a Gainda Singh who came from Hoshiapur (which is what the article claimed) and a Ganda Singh (your man) who came from Ferozpur), per pp. 81-82. Furthermore, the subject of the article has an additional name that does not appear in the source that you cited, and the article made no mention of time spent in China: you may in fact have unwittingly added to the confusion. Indeed, I am pretty sure that you did because the article claimed Singh was being prosecuted in India at the time when your source says he was in China.

It is issues such as transliteration & common names that give rise to confused articles that become compendia of the lives of various people rather than of any single person and it is thus that such unsourced articles can fail WP:V, WP:GNG etc. They are frequently found in the India-related sphere and without a decent "hook" source that really does delve into the life of a particular person, the articles are well-nigh useless. I'll try to build something using the source that you provided, but it is not a great one. Contested PROD of NKVT

Hello,

You contested the proposed deletion of NKVT, saying that "of course we should have an article on a government ministry in one of the world's largest countries." I agree with the basic principle of this - we should have information about such a ministry. But there's simply not enough encyclopedic content to justify having an article. Furthermore, even if that content is there, it's unsourced, so it's not useable. Cyrille Ndaney

Hello. You removed the BLPProd tag because it has references but both references provided are not for the person in question. In fact, the majority of the article is just a cut and paste of an existing one, just the name and a couple of things were changed. That is why I BLPProd'd it. The user in question has a history of doing this and frankly I can't be bothered to clean up after them every single time if they're not willing to put in the effort to create articles properly (see their talk page, I've left them plenty of messages). This reference clearly says that Ndaney is a player from Cameroon signed to ES Sétif, How is that not for the person in question? If you doubt the reliability of the source or the notability of the player then please use other deletion procedures, but this article meets the requirements of WP:BLPPROD. I came upon your involvement in the AfD discussion on a missionary by the name of Johannes Maas (see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Johannes Maas (missionary) and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Johannes Maas (missionary) (2nd nomination) for the discussion). I will not comment in the AfD discusssion unless you inform all of the editors who participited in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Johannes Maas (missionary) and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Johannes Maas (missionary) (2nd nomination), including Jackie-thai, JimScott and Jemesouviens32 who gave "keep" opinions (I see that Rak-Tai has already found the discussion). Informing people in the selective way that you have done is frowned upon as canvassing, and is nearly always counter-productive as it tends to deflect AfD discussions into talk about canvassing rather than the merits of the article. I didn't inform Jackie-thai because that account has not been active since 2009 and I strongly suspect that account to have been either a sockpuppet of Rak-Tai or belonging to someone who was his assistant due to Jackie-thai's edits all being connected with the person Johannes Maas. I have indeed not informed JimScott as he did not contribute to the second AfD nomination of the article about Johannes Maas. His name there was added by Rak-Thai himself so I assumed that JimScott had lost interest in the discussion. Am I missing something? Is there a guideline/policy page somewhere which defines rational claims to importance? Perhaps I'm being a bonehead, but I didn't really feel that a claim to size is really significant; a tiny company in a sector with a very small market could make that claim. The point of the speedy deletion criteria is to eliminate articles that don't require any investigation to determine that they don't belong in Wikipedia. Hi there. I noticed that you removed the speedy deletion tag from the above disambiguation page. You remarks were "look at the criteria". I did so and under the criteria of a disambiguation page: "An article which contains two or less links, or as many non-functional links". That article would have met the criteria for a speedy deletion. On a side note, contesting a speedy does not involve the act of removing the speedy. Contesting would be to add the "hang-on" tag and giving your reason for contesting such an issue. In your case, you just removed the template. Read the speedy deletion template again. The first criterion only applies if the title of the disambiguation page ends in "(disambiguation)", which this one does not, and the second only applies if the page links to no articles, but this one does link to one. And any editor other than the article creator can contest a speedy deletion by removing the tag with an explanation in the edit summary. Phil Bridger (talk) 20:58, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

• I did read the template again. I am not trying to engulf this into an edit war. I was always under the impression that the proper way to "contest" a speedy was to add the hang on to the page so that the individual wanting to stop the speedy could explain this on the articles talk page. I, up to this point, have found the generally accepted way of "declining" a speedy was to remove the article. No hard feelings. I added it to today's AfD board. Cheers!keystoneridin! • Well, if you did read the template again, could you explain how this page met either of the criteria? For contesting of speedy deletion see WP:CSD, which says "The creator of a page may not remove a speedy deletion tag from it. Only an editor who is not the creator of a page may do so."
