License tagging for Image:Genesis.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Genesis.gif. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 22:07, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

The deletion discussion[edit]

In case you are not monitoring the deletion discussion I have dropped you this note to ensure that you check it out. I've clarified the rather briefer note there and hope you find it useful.

Most people do not "give an opinion and run" so work in redrafting the article, if substantial, is likely to lead to its survival, but, and this is important, people need to see in the discussion that you have redrafted it, or they will probably not check.

I hope you can make it survive. Despite appearances people want a fuller Wikipedia. It's just that they guard quality jealously, and many as as diligent in nominating articles for deletion as they are in creating and improving other articles.

The process is generally win/win. If the articles that have been nominated improve, Wikipedia wins and so does the author. If they are not then they go. Wikipedia wins and the author learns what not to do.

It's not a gentle place, it's a fairly combative place at times, but it is also a fine project. I'm glad you are part of it.

Thank you for your clear reply here and on the articles for deletion page, for some reason I get the message that my IP or user name is blocked from editing, so can’t do anything about my article anyway, oddly enough I can edit this page.
I had been looking at other pages and clicked a red link, which seems to have caused the block!
Never mind I can’t edit anything (even the article for deletion page to add a reply) so I am stuffed basically.

I'm not an admin, so I have no idea about any block. I can't see that what you have done in creating an article or your behaviour over it desrves a block, but I am unfamiliar with block rules. It may be that you share an IP address with a persistent vandal. There is a way of appealing a block, but I have no idea how to do that. I suspect it may be in the message that mentions you are blocked?. You could also put {{helpme}} on thios page and ask a passing admin for help. That works well enough. Bets of luck Fiddle Faddle 21:39, 20 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I can see that the article is tidied substantially. That is great. I do not believe there is enough work to save it, though. Please read WP:Notability and WP:CORP and WP:WEB closely. Satisfying these is hard work, rightly so. Get over those three hurdles and I believe you have cracked it. Meanwhile DO preserve a copy of the article on a sub page of your user page for the future. I would hate all your hard work to be wasted if the discussion is closed "delete" today. But do not recreate it "same as before" if that happens. I can give guidance, but have no subject expertise to give active help. (signed rather late, sorry) Fiddle Faddle 19:03, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your help and advice, I don’t know how to make a sub page or do you mean back up on my user page?

Anyway I have an offline copy of each version just in case, the current version is the best I could do in the time that I had, if its not enough then fair enough, what will be will be. Thanks also for the helpful links (lot of reading and even more understanding) I assume that if it is deleted I would then have to appeal or make considerable changes before making a new page?

I think the Notable is probably the hardest one to get round. Thanks again for your help, this has all been an interesting experience.

Ah, a user sub page. Let's assume that you want to store it on a page "user:username/subpage" What you do is to enter that in the search box on the left hand side and click "go". The system will then tell you that there is no such page and ask if you want to create it. You do wish to :). You then migrate the page currently on your user page to the new page.
Why migrate it? Because you may get accused currently of using WP as a free web host the way it stands. Create a page as your user page itself saying whatever you wish. Mine is neither good nor bad. It just "is".
You can either link or not link to the stored page at will.
If you want to see how "violent" wikipedia can get, have a look at an example of a controversial deletion discussion such as this one. It is not a gentle place, as you see. Your own is rather more simple, I think.
One may always appeal a deletion, but at present I think yours would be unlikely to succeed. That is my own opinion, others may disagree. Any recreation needs to be radically different. Fiddle Faddle 19:33, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
