This is a good start. I'm not sure where the topic fits. I assume it would be a separate section within PWORA. You might focus on immigration and PWORA and then bring other topics related to immigrants including how states are implementing the rule vis-a-vis immgrants. Continuing off of what Professor Cassell said, I would narrow the scope of the article. I think you bring up an interesting topic relating to access to social programs for minorities. I would focus on one aspect of the law, perhaps the immigrant part, and describe what it requires. I like how you describe the option that individual states have to use their own funds to provide programs such as medicaid and welfare to those who do not qualify. From there you can describe how the provision of the law applying to immigrants specifically impacts their lives and ability to receive these programs. I would try to find an example or two that help make your point. I think the start of the article is good and with a more narrow focus and some more detail on how PRWORA has affected the inclusion of these programs it can be a solid article. Let me know if you have any more questions for me. Ray.Paoletta (talk) 18:01, 15 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi PiratesWithHats. I also agree with the editors above. This might be a great addition to the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act if you're willing to add it to that article rather than create a new one. Adam (Wiki Ed) (talk) 17:49, 20 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mcassell04, my sandbox has been copied to the PWORA wikipedia article.

Need to edit your contribution[edit]

You're contribution needs to expand the citation and use the Wiki style of citations. I'd also expand it with some numbers. How many immigrants are covered? Are there any data?Mcassell04 (talk) 00:48, 26 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello PiratesWithHats This is an interesting topic. I have a couple of suggestions. I would consider removing “assistance” in the following sentence since the “A” in TANF stands for assistance. “Filindra (2012) finds that race has a strong negative correlation for TANF assistance granted to immigrants.” The word “between” has been keyed twice in your last sentence. “In addition, the immigrant population has a positive correlation with the inclusion of Medicaid coverage considering the positive correlation between between higher poverty and inclusion.” — Preceding unsigned comment added by Griffin710 (talkcontribs) 22:14, 26 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Peer Review[edit]

Hello PiratesWithHats As said before, I beleieve this is an interesting article and you're doing a great job thus far. I would like to give you some advice on it. I just noticed there was several issues in regards to grammar. For example there was a time when you had between two times in a row, there were also several run on sentences, as said beforeyou will need to follow the wiki style of citations, and there was some awkward phrasing throughout the article. One example of awkward phrasing to me is "welfare generosity" However, I accidentally fixed several of these errors through editing. Another thing that may aid your article is in Addressing Concerns portion of your piece. In that section there is a direct quote from Preuhs. I would recommend taking that out or fixing that so that you are not directly taking something from someones work and incorporating it into your Wiki piece. As you are not suppose to copy someones work directly. Lastly, I would recommend that you give some examples of the more inclusive states in the costs to inclusion part. This would gives us a better idea of where these policies are happening. Kmuzica (talk) 04:56, 11 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Kmuzica, I appreciate the suggestions and they have been noted. In regards to the awkward phrasing of "welfare generosity", I have to disagree. The academic literature formally uses that terminology. I will fix the citations to match Wikipedia's style and also give examples of welfare inclusive states. Cheers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PiratesWithHats (talkcontribs) 16:13, 23 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
