Tacheng's ethnic breakdown in the 2010 Census was only 3.2% Uyghur, trailing behind more than the Hui (which was more than double the Uyghur population), Kazakh, and Han. This, along with Dzungaria's lesser Uyghur concentration, makes it not uncontroversial to claim Uyghurs form a majority, or even a plurality, in Huyanghe, which is geographically in Tacheng.
