19th century

Per an exception to WP:YEARLINK, line-header years should be linked in century articles. — Arthur Rubin (talk) 18:54, 3 October 2017 (UTC)

@Arthur Rubin: I am currently working on cleaning up all articles on [1] with autoFormatter. Sometimes, it will accidentally clean up other aspects of the article but my main is to get all articles done on this list. Pkbwcgs (talk) 19:04, 3 October 2017 (UTC)

Thanks. I would have replaced "cleaned up" with "damaged". Although most of the other AutoFormat "errors" probably should be "corrected", the majority of the characters changed by your edit were correct. If you were to re-use AutoFormat with "unlink dates" turned off, it would be a net benefit. — Arthur Rubin (talk) 19:12, 3 October 2017 (UTC)
@Arthur Rubin: I don't know how to turn off unlink dates on autoFormatter. Pkbwcgs (talk) 19:14, 3 October 2017 (UTC)
Neither do I. That's one of the reasons I don't use AutoFormatter on timeline articles. — Arthur Rubin (talk) 01:46, 5 October 2017 (UTC)

Problem with opening images

Is there any maintenance work going on? There is a problem opening images on Wikipedia. I nominated File:DAINESE Organization Logo.png for Speedy Deletion Criterion F2 but it sounds like all images are corrupt. Pkbwcgs (talk) 16:05, 6 October 2017 (UTC)

Most likely a client-side issue if all the images you see are corrupt. Primefac (talk) 16:25, 6 October 2017 (UTC)
@Primefac: All the images I am seeing today on Wikipedia are corrupt. Are you facing the same problem? Pkbwcgs (talk) 17:13, 6 October 2017 (UTC)
Nope. Haven't seen a corrupt image in quite a while. Did you recently upgrade/change your browser? Primefac (talk) 17:15, 6 October 2017 (UTC)
@Primefac: I have recently upgraded to a new browser but this is only happening on Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons and nowhere else. It throws up this error when opening File:Farewell to 442402 Beckenham Junction to London Victoria 1Z43 approaching Beckenham Road station (32556548674).jpg:

Page not found /wikipedia/commons/8/80/Farewell_to_442402_Beckenham_Junction_to_London_Victoria_1Z43_approaching_Beckenham_Road_station_(32556548674).jpg

We could not find the above page on our servers.

Did you mean: /wiki/wikipedia/commons/8/80/Farewell_to_442402_Beckenham_Junction_to_London_Victoria_1Z43_approaching_Beckenham_Road_station_(32556548674).jpg

Alternatively, you can visit the Main Page or read more information about this type of error.

Can you please help me out on this annoying error. I can't even view pictures directly on an article. Pkbwcgs (talk) 17:21, 6 October 2017 (UTC)

That still sounds like it's a client-side issue. Have you tried a different browser and/or rolled back the update? Could also be a cache issue. Primefac (talk) 18:01, 6 October 2017 (UTC)

@Primefac: Not just the images problem but I don't like the recent new change where if I click a red link, it won't show the deletion and editing is tougher and confusing because as I click on edit source to edit an page, it is highlighting all the WikiMarkup and putting some confusing buttons on top. Not only this, I can't preview or review my changes and the save changes button went to the top instead of the bottom. Everything is so confusing about editing now. What is the best way to disable all these changes? Wikipedia editing became more of a havoc than before. Pkbwcgs (talk) 20:41, 6 October 2017 (UTC)

Well, from that description it sounds like you have a bunch of gadgets enabled and they're either competing with each other or not completely working. Try disabling some of the beta/gadget options and see if that helps? Primefac (talk) 14:33, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

your sandbox

I removed the Articles for Creation template, as it appears to have been added by the IP who was harassing you. Please feel free to re-add it if you want, with my apologies. You may also remove the comments so your sandbox is "clean". Let me know if I can help in any other way. (PS, your image needs to be thumbnailed, but you probably know that). All the best, 78.26 (spin me / revolutions) 17:16, 6 October 2017 (UTC)

Visual Editing

How can I disable visual editing on Wikipedia? It is annoying me. I would rather use the original editor where the buttons are easier to locate. Pkbwcgs (talk) 08:11, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

I tried the steps on Wikipedia:VisualEditor but this stupid VisualEditor won't disable. Pkbwcgs (talk) 09:09, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

Among the preferences you'll find a drop-down menu labeled "Editing mode". You can set it to either "Show me both editor tabs" or "Always give me the source editor". Huon (talk) 11:03, 7 October 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for your help. It worked. Pkbwcgs (talk) 11:04, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

Dispute

I having a big dispute over 78.55.74.227 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) and I am starting to become fed up. I have stopped touching their edits but the IP is still saying that I am harassing them. I am extremely upset and I don't know how can I help this. Pkbwcgs (talk) 20:01, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

The IP has been blocked for block evasion. That said, you may want to take a look at WP:NOTVANDAL; while Tobias Conradi shouldn't be editing and may be reverted on sight, these particular edits were not vandalism. Huon (talk) 22:05, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

I have been doing a serious amount of hard work to get British Rail Class 700 to good article status. How can I nominate this article to secure a good article status? Pkbwcgs (talk) 09:51, 15 October 2017 (UTC)

See Wikipedia:Good article nominations/Instructions. Huon (talk) 11:52, 15 October 2017 (UTC)

I have removed the spam tag you placed on this draft article. No specific product or service is promoted. The draft is a mess, and offers no improvement on the existing E-commerce page, but it is not spam. Your warning to the author was a tad harsh. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 20:48, 18 October 2017 (UTC)

@WikiDan61: My warning was not harsh. It was caught under the Abuse Filter Log Filter 354 as 'Possible self promotion in userspace'. I have checked this filter before nominating it for deletion and the draft still sounds very promotional. Pkbwcgs (talk) 15:30, 19 October 2017 (UTC)
What product or service do you feel that the page is promoting? WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:38, 19 October 2017 (UTC)
@WikiDan61: I thought it was promoting E-commerce because it is a another company. I only nominate pages for G11 if I think it is advertising and it has been caught on filter 354 as 'Possible self promotion in userspace'. Pkbwcgs (talk) 15:40, 19 October 2017 (UTC)
E-commerce is not a company. It is a business methodology. It is possible to be overly positive about the technology and to fail to write neutrally about it (which this user did), but I don't think that falls under Wikipedia's spam guidelines. Edit filters are guides, they are not flawless tools. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:15, 19 October 2017 (UTC)

This page was saved after the first edit. Additional content was added minutes later.

Blooming Onion

If you look at the nutritional information for Blooming onions, you will see for yourself how unhealthy they are. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.58.201.226 (talk) 16:06, 21 October 2017 (UTC)

@172.58.201.226: The fact that you described the food as unhealthy is still not adhering to a neutral point of view. Pkbwcgs (talk) 16:36, 21 October 2017 (UTC)

Thanks Pkbwegs. My bad as I deleted Newton Abbot RFC main content by accident when I meant to clear the contents of my Sandbox (multiple tabs - arrghh). I have corrected now. Jgjsmith006 (talk) 19:26, 21 Pctober 2017 (UTC)

Shipwreck lists

I've reverted your deletions of valid wikilinks from various shipwreck lists. I would guess that you found these through Special:LongPages. There are hundreds of shipwreck lists and all are similarly linked. Your edits meant that these four lists were out of synch with the rest. Counties and oceans are valid links. Countries may be valid links too, as the United Kingdom is not the same as the United Kingdom! Mjroots (talk) 21:09, 21 October 2017 (UTC)

"Harmonize whitespace"

Please desist in "Harmonize whitespace" script. It's a massive dummy edit that fills change logs and diff compares for other editors, with zero benefit to the reader. If done with part of a larger edit involving most of an article's citation templates, fine, but as a stand-alone it is just annoying, and looks like something done just to boost edit counts. Thank you. --A D Monroe III(talk) 19:49, 22 October 2017 (UTC)

@A D Monroe III: The intention of this tool is not to boost edit counts. It is used to cleanup the citation mess it articles in order for it not to be confusing in the future. Secondly, I am only performing this cleanup on the long pages with frequent checks to citation templates to make sure it is in order and not confusing for other editors in the future. Pkbwcgs (talk) 20:02, 22 October 2017 (UTC)
I see no "mess" it cleans up, just an imposition of a very minor personal style preference, which I (for one) actually do not prefer, scattered everywhere throughout long articles. Again, it's making work for other editors looking at logs and diffs, without any realized benefit. If it actually does something useful somewhere, please tone it down to focus on that. --A D Monroe III(talk) 20:15, 22 October 2017 (UTC)
@A D Monroe III: The tool I am using at the moment for the Harmonize whitespace is Tidy Citations and it has been designed by @Meteor sandwich yum:. It is used to format citations correctly. I don't understand what problems it is creating. It is similar to a disk cleanup on your PC. It also trying to save space in citations so that the article will be easier to edit when editing the source. The source for this tool is at User:Meteor sandwich yum/Tidy citations.js. It is one of the user scripts I have chose to use to cleanup citations and it has been suggested at Wikipedia:User scripts/List. Pkbwcgs (talk) 20:45, 22 October 2017 (UTC)
What it does is help hide vandalism. Say I'm reviewing an article with a 10 or 20 edits since the last time I checked it, and one of them is this script, what do I do? Either I spend several extra minutes going through all the through several dozen pages of diff throughout the whole article, or I skip checking for any vandalism because I can't spend that much time on just one article, and just hope that whatever sneaky vandalism I may have skipped wasn't too bad. So I go on to next article on my watchlist, and guest what? Same thing again! Using the script like this hurts WP, and does no good for anyone. I'm sure there's better things for both of us to do. Please, please, please, just stop. --A D Monroe III(talk) 21:07, 22 October 2017 (UTC)
  • I agree with A D Monroe III, this is a moderate drain on editor time without any apparent corresponding benefit, a solution in search of a problem. Why don't you restrict your use of this script to pages that have actually have serious citation format problems? (I am not watching this page, so please ping me if you want my attention.) --Dr. Fleischman (talk) 04:54, 23 October 2017 (UTC)

I can't find the DisamAssist tool in the more section

I can find the DisamAssist assist tool on the more section. I have loaded it up on User:Pkbwcgs/common.js but I still can't find it. It is not in my toolbox either. Pkbwcgs (talk) 09:42, 23 October 2017 (UTC)

First, are you checking for the tool on a disambiguation page? (I know that sounds like an obvious step, but it never hurts to ask.) Check Kári Árnason (disambiguation), you should see "Disambiguate links to primary topic" and "Disambiguate links to DAB" on the "More" tab. If they are not there, you can try logging out, closing the browser and re-opening it and logging back in to ensure the browser cache is cleared. Hope this helps. Project 21956

Hi, for future reference, we now have {{uw-blank1}} and {{uw-blank2}} as distinct messages from {{uw-delete1}} and {{uw-delete2}}. Generally better for what's essentially a page blanking action. — Smjg (talk) 13:25, 23 October 2017 (UTC)

Hi, I made important changes on the Parchi page because I am an employee of the production house which produced this film. We have not released the date of the film as well as the music composers hence it was a wrong information posted on the wiki page. Any changes made from my account are authorized because I am employee of IRK Films and thus have complete information on the film Parchi and IRK Films. Rollback

I am simply fed up of patrolling because whenever I come to an edit, somebody has already rollbacked it and Twinkle is extremely slow today that I can't believe the amount of frustration I am in when I miss out an edit when I try to revert something. I have installed all the tools that autoconfirmed users can use for rollback and it is still too slow to rollback an edit. Please help me out. What is the best tactics for rollback? Pkbwcgs (talk) 16:54, 23 October 2017 (UTC)

Sorry, just to clarify, but you're upset because you didn't "get" the edit count for reverting vandalism? Primefac (talk) 17:03, 23 October 2017 (UTC)
@Primefac: It not just about the edit count. It is the fact that I have been patrolling for hours and I come to that edit and it has been reverted. It not about the edit count, it about the hard work I put into patrolling Wikipedia. Pkbwcgs (talk) 17:07, 23 October 2017 (UTC)
Hey Pkbwcgs might I suggest applying for rollbacker at WP:PERM and then try using WP:Huggle. Huggle is a great tool and it is what a lot of counter vandalism patrollers like myself use. Hope this helps! --Cameron11598 (Talk) 17:12, 23 October 2017 (UTC)
@Cameron11598: Thank you for this suggestion! Unfortunately, I don't think I will be assigned rollback permissions yet as it is too early and when I first came to Wikipedia in 2016, I had a long pattern of disruptive editing last year even though it has stopped now. Pkbwcgs (talk) 17:15, 23 October 2017 (UTC)
I am just simply getting fed up of rollbacking because Huggle keeps beating Twinkle in rollback and yet only rollbackers can use Huggle only. Pkbwcgs (talk) 17:50, 23 October 2017 (UTC)
If Huggle users are "beating you to the edits", that is a Good ThingTM. It means the tool is working and vandalizers aren't getting the attention they want because their bad edits are live for a very short period. This is the only outcome that matters for counter-vandalism. Most vandalism and counter-vandalism takes place during the late morning to mid-evening for the UK and US, say, 1000UTC - 2100UTC. That leaves a lot of the day uncovered where you may be able to help more. Also, we don't all have to revert vandalism to be helpful or provide value here. There are a large number of other Wiki-maintenance projects you could help on, just for one example. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 18:21, 23 October 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for the help in the jungle that is AfC just a suggestion though when tagging something for CSD G11 make sure that you review the article as well. That way it removes it from the AfC articles to be reviewed queue. Thanks! Whispering 23:25, 25 October 2017 (UTC)
