I had a quick look at the Jozef De Beenhouwer article. There are two improvements that could be made to the article:

  • Reading through it, I was not struck by the impression that he is all that notable. I'm not saying that he isn't, but reading through the article I didn't get that impression. You might want to read the following guidelines:
  1. General notability guidelines
  2. Guidelines on the notability of people
  3. Guidelines on the notability of musicians
  • There are no sources of information! To verify the facts in the article, reliable sources of information are needed. Aagain, here are some of the applicable guidelines which may help:
  1. Policy on verifiability
  2. Guide to reliable sources
  3. Guide to independent sources
  4. Guide to citing references

I had a quick look for reliable sources of information, but (for example) all the hits on Google News Archive Search were very minor coverage from what I can see ("Jozef De BeenHouwer played piano." type of stuff!) Hopefully, you'll have more luck - if I get a chance to next week, I may make a more thorough search for reliable sources of information.

If you have any further questions, let me know! Regards -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 16:25, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dear PhantomSteve,

I took your advice so seriously that I ended up writing a four-page essay to explain myself. This is a very brief, telegram-style summmary of that essay.

Notability: JDB satisfies at least 4 of the criteria listed in Guidelines on the notability of musicians: (1) a great many newspaper articles on JDB -- should I list some of them for verifiability? (2) released two albums on a major German label, CPO 99 758-2 (definitely a world premiere) and CPO 999 735-2 (probably also contains a world premiere); (3) has a major music award, the Robert Schumann Prize (definitely a major prize, given the list of winners); (4) has been the subject of several longer broadcasts on Belgian (Flemish) VRT TV (and I think on SWF, Baden Baden; need to verify this myself).

Verifiability. (1) Bibliography and discography are easily verifiable -- should I add the references of the recordings? (I didn't dare to, fearing commercialism.) (2) Data pertaining to his official studies and his teaching career can be verified by checking the publications of the relevant institutions -- all in Dutch; should I list them? They should all be verifiable in the Belgian Royal Library, a library of record in the legal sense; should I mention that? (3) Data pertaining to his concerts -- should I list a number of newspaper articles? How many? (4) I will definitely add an external reference to a Dutch-language source, a reliable outside source which confirms his Caecilia prizes. (5) It is virtually impossible to make the first few lines of my article (about his private studies and his early preference for Schumann) verifiable, but this is hardly "material that is challenged or likely to be challenged" (quoting Policy on verifiability).

All and any further advice will be welcome.

All the best,

Ryelandt[edit]

Thank you for your note about Joseph Ryelandt and even more for your great, very personal article on him! I was not aware of different ways to render translations, being also rather new here. What I saw (looking at operas, Bach cantatas ...) was the translation given in brackets, sometimes italic, sometimes not. If you prefer it differently, go ahead, just revert my edit and add the wikilink to cantata. I will add his cantata there. Going to sing the Gloria of his mass op. 84 in concert soon, along with the Requiem of Reger! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:40, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I added to cantata a secular and sacred cantata from the nl-WP, not knowing the works. If you think, others should be mentioned instead, please change. Concerning the worklists of R., I suggest you write something more specific than "here and here", describing the source and language a bit. - If you want to me a favour, expand St. Salvator's Cathedral a bit and find references, as I don't speak Dutch. We will sing there. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:01, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Michael Bednarek, who is much more experienced as an editor, answered your question where you raised it, please look there. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:34, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your detailed note. I'll change in cantata whenever I find the time, probably not this week. Or could you? - "Here" - you don't have to explain in detail, but might say "in the Dutch Wikipedia" instead of the second "here", so that a reader doesn't get surprised by the language there. The cathedral: as cantata, I want to translate In convertendo Dominus, Ignace Michiels and the latest Bach cantata to German and perhaps write Der 100. Psalm first.
I wrote a short article in German - better than nothing - concentrating on the works, which I copied to English, hope you don't mind. I nominated Ryelandt for the Main page, we will sing in Bruges September 4, perhaps you can come? Do you think you could translate nl:Kathedraalorgel Brugge? My translations are done, psalm 100 will have to wait. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:32, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I finally wrote the psalm article! - We will sing a motet by Ryelandt, Panem coeli, and Der 100. Psalm, and Laetatus sum in the Bruges Cathedral on 27 August. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:46, 2 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the other recording. Do you have an inline citation for that? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:12, 3 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Ms. Arendt,
I did not think an inline citation was necessary, since I gave the full reference of the CD: title ("Psalms – Te Deum at the Sint Rombouts Cathedral, Mechelen") plus publisher (Gailly) plus number (87 059). When we write down the bibliographical data of a book, Wikipedia does not require any further proof of the existence of that book, does it? I’d say that giving the full reference of a CD is the equivalent. But if it pleases you, look at this.
I'll use this opportunity to wish you and the other musicians who will be singing in the Bruges cathedral great success and much "Musizierfreude". I cannot attend, since I will be abroad on that date. Best wishes, Polla ta deina (talk) 15:13, 3 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for May 18[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Jozef De Beenhouwer, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Henri Duparc (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Van Nuffel[edit]

Thank you foe expanding Van Nuffel. Can you please have an inline citation at least at the end of each paragraph? -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:21, 30 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I might later, but not now. As I write on my talk page, "I am doing this (i.e., writing in Wikipedias) for the fun of it." Continuing work on Van Nuffel would be no fun, for I've worked so hard on the article that I have my fill of it for a while. Besides, IMHO 30 footnotes should suffice for an article as long (or as short) as this. Polla ta deina (talk) 09:40, 1 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
