Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!
Hey there, Promethean/Archives2009! Happy new Gregorian year. All the best for the new year, both towards you and your family and friends too. I know that I am the only person lonely enough to be running this thing as the new year is ushered in, but meh, what are you going to do. I like to keep my templated messages in a satisfactorily melancholy tone. ;)

Congratulations to Coren, Wizardman, Vassyana, Carcharoth, Jayvdb, Casliber, Risker, Roger Davies, Cool Hand Luke and Rlevse, who were all appointed to the Arbitration Committee after the ArbCom elections. I am sure I am but a voice of many when I say I trust the aforementioned users to improve the committee, each in their own way, as listed within their respective election statements. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to update the 2009 article, heh.

Best wishes, neuro(talk) 00:57, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

Blwyddyn newydd dda!

Which is Welsh for "Happy New Year", just to be different! Many thanks for your Christmas wishes. I hope that the dawn of 2009 sees you in good health and spirits, and that the year ahead is a successful one for you. Warmest regards, BencherliteTalk 09:25, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

Merry Christmas

Thanks for the Christmas note dude, and I hope you had a great one! Took me a while to reply, sorry 'bout that; I've spent the better part of the last few days recovering from Christmas eve partying and going out with friends. 6 AM now, just got back home, and I'm going to Wiki it until I pass out (which is probably gonna happen very soon). How was your Christmas? Master of Puppets Call me MoP! :D 12:26, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

Re: Merry Christmas from Promethean

Thank you very much for taking the time to write your wishes for Christmas and the New Year. I am sorry this reply finds you late but I have only just been able to login and check. I hope you and yours had a lovely Christmas and wish you all the best for the coming year. Fnagaton 07:18, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your kind message. I hope you and your family had a great Christmas and New Year. Keep up the good work on Wikipedia! Nirvana888 (talk) 04:43, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Flagged revisions

I've added your thing to my user page and- WTF did Jimbo Wales just peek around the corner and leer at me- *shudder* anyway, I'd already added a userbox to the effect that flagged revisions would cause me to retire from Wikipedia. But your thing is far more noticeable. Reyk YO! 07:13, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

No to flagged revs

I'd gladly add your popup to my page, but I believe what you are doing to go against WP:CANVASS. Users are already notified of the staw poll by that notice thingy on their watchlists. I don't think polarizing the situation would help build a community consensus (if one can be achieved here). Themfromspace (talk) 07:09, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi! I share a similar concern about WP:Canvas Lot 49atalk 08:08, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
Its not Canvassing, Lets diesect the message I sent out in relevance to the five criteria of canvassing:
  • Its not Excessive cross-posting because the people I sent it to are already involved, thus not biasing them.
  • Its not Campaigning because we are in agreence, so im not swaying the people whom i sent the notice too.
  • Its not Votestacking because although I have selected only those in opposition (to do otherwise would be campaining) you have all already voted.
  • Its not Stealth canvassing, its quite public.
  • Forum shopping does not apply in this case.

So as you can see you should go and do your homework before you accuse me of canvassing :)   «l| Ψrometheăn ™|l»  (talk) 08:37, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Fair enough. Thanks for the reply. Lot 49atalk 08:47, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for editing that - you have alleviated my concerns and I have moved to keep at the MfD, since it is just an expression of opinion. Might I add that an opinion in favour of FlaggedRevs does not consequently preclude supporting the retention of this box.... :) Best wishes, Fritzpoll (talk) 11:41, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Flagged Revs

Hi,

I noticed you voted oppose in the flag revs straw pole and would like to ask if you would mind adding User:Promethean/No to your user or talk page to make your position clear to people who visit your page :) - Thanks to Neurolysis for the template   «l| Ψrometheăn ™|l»  (talk) 06:42, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I would mind. Sorry, but that template's ugly :( Stifle (talk) 09:29, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
I'm not sure whether I should really. Although I am very strongly opposed, I don't want canvassing to be an issue by telling people to go to that page. Also, it's not particularly attractive as Stifle has already said :) I really do agree on your position though, just to make clear. —Cyclonenim (talk · contribs · email) 10:16, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
That works a lot better for me :) —Cyclonenim (talk · contribs · email) 10:28, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your note, Promethean. I don't use user boxes and think a category is only going to entrench differences, but I have added a note on my wiki-philosophies to my user page. Espresso Addict (talk) 14:06, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Flagged revisions template

I've added that template to my userpage. The more people that oppose this horrible idea, the better! Thanks for the message :-) John Sloan (view / chat) 14:15, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Just a friendly note. I added User:Promethean/No2 to my page; I'm afraid I agree with another editor's description of the suggested User:Promethean/No as an "irritatingly oversized and intrusively placed userbox." My point is not to give you a hard time, but that you'd get more interest in the userboxes if you told people about the less obtrusive alternative. Also, it's a "straw poll" (not "pole")--again, just to present your message better in case you continue your effort. Cheers, Wareh (talk) 15:23, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Re: Flagged Revs

Hi there, Sorry to disappoint but I've switched to support. I'm opposed to flagged revisions in general but I'd like to have a trial of it on BLPs. --Cameron* 15:20, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

I would, but that thing is sort of ... huge. If there were a userbox for it perhaps I'd add it... hint hint - Rjd0060 (talk) 15:40, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Ah - found it. I'll add that later. - Rjd0060 (talk) 15:42, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Re: Flagged revs

I'd rather not. Such things are sooo 2k6.

At any rate, putting such a thing on your userspace just won't go well with many users, making it harder to talk to them. Computerjoe's talk 16:35, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

File:FlagRevsAwesome.png

Hi
I just removed the {{db-unksource}} tag from File:FlagRevsAwesome.png since it wasn't tagged as having no source for 7 days yet (use {{no source|month=January|day=8|year=2009}} for that). I also believe that CC-SA-3.0 is properly addressed by listing File:FlagRevsNo.png among the list of source images. In any case, if you think that it doesn't suffice please just amend it accordingly, or talk to Krimpet, tagging it for deletion seems a bit retaliatory.

Naw

Strongly as I oppose WP:FlaggedRevs (unless used as an alternative to protecting pages), I don't want to force people to look at a distracting image. I think it might annoy them. Cheers, and no FlaggedRevs. Jonathan321 (talk) 21:41, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

No to flagged revisions

Thanks for the note! I have added the less intrusive No2 template to my user page :) GreyWyvern (talk) 23:11, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Yes Thanks for the note.

Userbox

This editor is strictly opposed to FlaggedRevisions in articles except when articles would otherwise be protected from editing.

User:Penubag/templates/created userboxes/noflags This userbox can be for users who prefer them.-- penubag  (talk) 10:00, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Re: Merry Christmas

Thanks, and Merry Christmas to you as well. Obviously I haven't logged in for a long time, since I just read your wishes today! Hope you had a good holiday season too. Joeblow179350 (talk) 22:19, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Re: Flagged Revs

I'm not going to add the /No banner, however I have added the /No2 userbox, it's a little more civil. Let's hope this doesn't go through. - RD (Talk) 18:05, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Hmm, not I'm probably not going to add it - it's too big and distracting and users are likely to come to me for help, hence my name. However, is there a userbox for it? The Helpful One 19:01, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
Not gonna do that. I've voted already. I'm not campaigning, I'm issuing my opinion. Madcynic (talk) 22:11, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Greetings!

Believe it or not, I saw your Christmas greeting today.. (I was away from Wikipedia for personal reasons, but I'll be back soon.) This is quite late, but I wish you and your family the best this year. Good luck and good health. =D
