North Omaha[edit]

Hi PrometheusFire. Since you've contributed to the North Omaha article in the past, I'm wondering if you can help figure out how to make it more "readable" - its getting long, and I'm feeling a little addicted to it's history right now, and I have more to get in there - but I don't want to make it any longer! Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. - Freechild 19:02, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Love to get your thoughts on this. Thanks. - Freechild 21:14, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Just noticed your NO note on my talk page again, and thought you might appreciate an update, if you haven't caught everything already. You can check out Template:North Omaha to see what I've finished and go to here to see what's ahead. Jump in if you'd like - could definitely use the assist. - Freechild 05:09, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikepedia[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia, Prometheus. I understand that we have a dispute on the North O page, but I'm willing to work with you on it. I think you may have quite a few misunderstandings on Wikipedia policy, though. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page and I can help you out. I've been around for a while and made some of those same mistaken assumptions that you are when I first started out. Equinox137 03:32, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, we've come to a compromise on the current status of the page...so let's talk about it. My page or yours??? Equinox137 05:55, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your edits and some words of advice[edit]

I really don't want to get into the edit war you're having with Equinox137 and others about various Omaha-related articles, but I fear you have a misunderstanding what Wikipedia is and what it is not.

Wikipedia is...

  • A secondary source of attributable, factual information. By that, I mean that Wikipedia articles should contain only information that a) has appeared elsewhere (be it printed, broadcast, televised, uploaded, etc.); b) can be traced to a source; and c) are facts.

Wikipedia is not...

  • a soapbox;
  • a cheerleader;
  • a place to attack other people.

From your edits, both as an anon IP and under your user name, it's quite evident that you care quite a bit about North and South Omaha. While it's very understandable and admirable that you want articles about those places to contain positive information. However, you just can't describe it any way you want; please find and cite sources for the claims you are making about those areas. If you don't understand why people raise objections to your edits, use this test: See if the types of claims you make sound sensible in similar articles. For example, I care a lot about my home town of St. Edward, Nebraska. However, does it sound "right" to your ears if I claim that it is a "shining example of rural American culture and home to caring, hard-working people with over 125 years of cultural heritage?"

Furthermore, until all of this gets sorted out, it's best to have the most neutral text displayed in the article namespace. I recommend that you copy over the article as you'd currently like to see it to the talk page, and discuss it and make changes to it there, instead of needlessly editing the article itself until a consensus is reached. That's why, for the time being, it's best that all the neighborhoods and suburbs of Omaha be described as neutrally as possible. There's no reason that North and South Omaha are any more "special" than the other areas with respect to having a lengthy description about them in the main article.

Finally, as a contributor to Wikipedia, you have to understand that you can't "own" any article. Every one who edits an article has an equal right to do so.

I strongly suggest that you read through Wikipedia's policies and guidelines before making any further edits. It's the best way to avoid coming into conflict with other users. – Swid (talk | edits) 02:16, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
