Archives[edit]

Sorry for the late reply. What I meant by we don't link to archives is that copyrighted pages that have been "archived" on some other site without permission are a violation of our rules on handling copyright. I believe the WP:EL page specifically mentions that we don't link to copyright violations (if it's not there anymore it should be restored, and it's on our copyright policy pages anyway). If the original document no longer exists at the page it was at, we just remove the link, we don't link to someone's copy of it. The exception would be for those things that do not have copyrights, like very old (pre-1923) articles, which wouldn't have had official web sites that would now be dead anyway, or government-created documents.
