Welcome![edit]

Some cookies to welcome you! :D
Welcome to Wikipedia, PuppyAddict! I am Slashme and have been editing Wikipedia for quite some time. It looks as if you've made a couple of good edits already, but no-one has been around with tea and cookies yet, so I just wanted to say hi and welcome you to Wikipedia! If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page or by typing {{helpme}} at the bottom of this page. I love to help new users, so don't be afraid to leave a message! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Oh yeah, I almost forgot, when you post on talk pages you should sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); that should automatically produce your username and the date after your post. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and ask your question there. Again, welcome!

Page history for vandal fighting[edit]

Hi PuppyAddict,

The magic tool here is the page history. Click on the "history" tab at the top of the page and you can see who changed what, and when. The "diff" links are especially useful: you can see the differences between any two edits highlighted in green and red.

As for the page you found vandalized, I've already fixed it, thanks for the tip! What I did here was to go to the history page, and look what seemed to be the latest good edit (the one at 7 Aug.) and click on the link next to it marked "cur", showing the changes made since then. None of them seemed worthwhile, so I clicked on the "edit" link corresponding to the old version and saved it with an appropriate edit summary.

Or at least, that's what could have happened. In reality, I used Twinkle, a script which automates this process, and because I'm not yet 100% au fait with it, I made a mistake the first time and only reverted the last edit, so I had to go back and fix it properly ;-) This happens quite a lot, so if you see that a page has been vandalized, it's often worthwhile to check out the difference between a relatively old edit and the current version to look out for sneaky vandalism.

Happy hunting! --Slashme (talk) 18:53, 23 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
