File copyright problem with File:Simon Mitchell.jpg[edit]

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:Simon Mitchell.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. J Milburn (talk) 12:36, 11 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I am aware this is not the easiest of systems to use. Basically, we're going to need to get the images released under a free license. Do you think you could get emails from the owners of the images saying something like "I own this image as I took the picture, and I am happy for it to be released under the Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 3.0 license. Thanks, [name]"? The license basically means others can use it freely for whatever they like (see link). Sadly, permission for just Wikipedia to use the image is not enough. If you can get these emails, forward them to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, along with a link to where the image has been uploaded (even if it has been deleted by then- it can be restored). Once you've sent the email, if the image still exists, tag it with {{OTRS pending}} and {{cc-by-sa-3.0}}; if it's been deleted, feel free to reupload it at the same location with those tags. I know this may seem like a ridiculous process, but Wikipedia and the Wikimedia Foundation makes a point of taking copyright very seriously. If you don't want to go ahead with this process, that's fine, but, sadly, the images will probably end up deleted. If you have any trouble with any of this or any other issue, you are more than welcome to contact me on my talk page. J Milburn (talk) 23:04, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
