I rated it down to B-class because it does not match the Wikipedia:WikiProject Jainism/Assessment standards for A-class articles. I realize that not all WikiProjects add Good Article status to the B-A-FA continuum, it is also important to remember that a poorly written page with many grammatical errors and clear, or even disputed bias cannot be A-class. I also added a POV tag because it seems to hold Jainism above other religions in its principles, saying that it is the only religion which does a certain thing, when that is not necessarily true (though technically I could delete such claims under WP:V, I would not due to the fact that some of these may be nominally true). I do not agree with you and your way of functioning. Either you do some constructive contribution and not be a member of Jainism Wikipedia project for name sake. I said point out the cases which require the necessary changes and we will make the necessary changes. As the name of article suggests it provides the Karmic theory from jainism point of view. I have taken all the sources from respected authors who have researched jainism deeply. So kindly do not impose your POV on others. If you see the tag, it requires "more specific message" and "discussion on talk pages". If that is not forthcoming I will have to revert back. However i am open to making substantial changes wherever required. I am copying this on the talk pages of Karma in Jainism so that it stays on record. I am inviting improvements from you and other members of this project. If there are no contributions then I will rate the Article as per the wiki guidelines. Sorry, but not agreeing with me is not a good nor a valid reason to change something. The WikiProject Assessment guidelines clearly show that an A-class article must meet some guidelines when it comes to referencing, NPOV, and grammar. It is debatable whether an A-class article must be better than a Good Article, but in this WikiProject, GA status is necessary before promotion to A-class. I suggest you study these guidleines. Also, just because something is above Jainism, it doesn't have to be written from a Jain point of view. All Wikipedia articles MUST be written from an objective viewpoint. Just because Dr. Jaini is a respected author, the source is not automatically unbiased. Even Acharya Sushilkumar is biased, no matter how respected he is. The constant referencing of biased sources (the Tattvartha Sutra being one of the few ones that is not used in a negative way) is one of the main shortcomings of the article. Wikipedia articles are not designed to support their subject; they must instead simply shed light on the topic. As for any lack of constructive edits about Jainism I have made, I am quite an old-timer on this WikiProject as the second person to join. By looking at my contributions and articles I have edited or created on Jainism, it is quite clear that I have not added my name to the Jainism WikiProject just for the status. --queso man 03:22, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've been attempting to overview and tidy up the geography cats which involve the places where people live. From the top level down to local neighbourhoods. There has been some overlapping and various mis-routings. It's been interesting looking at it all. However, there appear to be two useful ways of doing it - by region, and by size. And these can operate side by side quite usefully. The by region isn't a problem. But the by size has become difficult because User:Hmains wishes to use the term settlements to cover all sizes of communities, and has altered dictionary definitions [1] to fit his own understanding of the term -
[2]. Community appears to be the term used most often to describe the places where people live, regardless of size. This is the definition of community - [3]. I did some sorting, placing the cat Human communities under Human geography. Human communities splitting into Urban geography and Rural geography. And those splitting into appropriate sized communities - cities, districts, neighbourhoods, villages, settlements, etc. Hmains has reverted much of my work, and insists on settlements being the term we should use - basing it on this decision, which was a declined proposal to rename Settlements by region to Populated places by region. What do you think? Is settlement an acceptable term for covering human communities ranging from well established cities down to refuge camps. Is Human community a viable alternative? Are there other choices (apart from populated places of course!)? I have started a discussion here and [4], with the above wording, but no response as yet. Am I doing the right thing? Hi, I noticed that you put a Prod tag on this article, and then listed it in Articles for Deletion. AfD and Proposed Deletion are two different deletion methods, you have accidentally combined the two. To delete an article using Proposed Deletion, you simply put the tag on the article, as you have already done, and then 5 days later if no one objects the article is deleted. I assessed these articles as A-class not to imply that they were better than GA-class, but to distinguish them as better than the B-class articles. I've seen discussion elsewhere on different projects to indicate that GA-class doesn't strictly come between B-class and A-class. Many people see GA-class as something separate from the stub-start-B-A-FA sequence. Confusing, I know, but that was the way I was handling it. As for what A-class means. WikiProject Middle-earth doesn't have formal A-class a assessment system. I know some projects do, but we don't, yet! Would you like to suggest setting one up over at the WikiProject talk page? You recently made a horrible edit to Area of a disk using AWB, with the edit summary "bad link repair". The edit was not a mere link repair, but made numerous changes throughout the article that contravene our explicit conventions in mathematics editing. For example, we absolutely do not replace "<sup>2</sup>" with "²". (It is too small to read, and it is inconsistent will all our other superscripts including variables and other digits.) I looked through my contributions, and it seems that except for one other edit (Pi, which was reverted with a description saying that unicodifying is ok, but removing links was questionable), most of the errors I made on mathematics-related articles were just in the edit summary. Since the amount of edit summaries under AWB is extremely limited, what should I have chosen? This problem with AWB was dealt with in October of 2006. Wikipedia being what it is, the code fix and the caution may have been "unfixed" by someone since then. I have noticed your threat to get an administrator to suspend one's account if he removes Alvis Brooks from the list of notable people from Shelby, Mississippi. To clarify what "notable" means, it means that there must be reliable third-party sources with which to verify the information as per WP:N. A quick Google search of "Alvis Brooks Mississippi" will yield only seven results, none of which are useful. It is probable that Mr. Brooks was a kind farm mechanic who touched many lives and we take your word for it, but I and many others sincerely do not believe he belongs on a list of notable people. As for the threats to get a user banned, not only are threats highly discouraged, but in this case, it wouldn't work. I'm somewhat familiar with criteria for banning, and removing a non-notable person from a list of notable people isn't one of them. In fact, it takes quite a bit to ban a person, even if they did do something wrong (which I didn't). I suggest that, if any of your changes are reverted without clear signs of vandalism, you ask the reverter why or post a message on the talk page of the article. An other person has posted Mr. Brooks name up and it wasn't me. I went to standpoint his name back up and someone else has posted it, rather it was a local or some Admin that allowed it I don't know. I find it oddly suspicious that a user from Pennsylvania would take the time to edit only the Shelby, Mississippi article, and then only to add in the name of Mr. Brooks. I am not quite loving of Shelby, although I'm sure it's a nice place, but I find that sometimes, untrue statements that end up on Wikipedia can potentially cause harm to someone, and although this is not likely to hurt anyone as far as I know, I consider it important to delete it if it isn't true. Of course, you still have the opportunity to reference it. Keep in mind I will be deleting any mention of Alvis Brooks tomorrow if there is no reference to the statement, but any time after that you or anyone else can add it again if you do find a good reference. As a response to your comments on Clarksdale, Mississippi, a Google search shows that all of the red-linked names are of people who exist (a few are portrait artists, one has a page on the IMDB). Mr. Lawes and I have discussed this for some time and I told him that if he could not find a reference, printed or online, for this information, it would be deleted. Of course, I would make sure the reference exists. I haven't found a single relevant Google hit for Alvis Brooks, nor have I found one for the KT socket wrench, the tool he supposedly invented. Mr. Brooks, if he is real, may be well-known locally, but if he is not notable on a larger scale, such that an unbiased third-party source cannot be found about him, then any information about him will most likely be deleted. Now, you edited his name back in and described him as the brother of Mel Brooks. If you are talking about the famous actor and comedian, the only notable Mel Brooks, I'm afraid that you're mistaken. Mel Brooks had three brothers named Bernard, Leonard, and Irving.[5][6]Also, neither being related to a notable person nor being a war veteran makes a person notable; if either did, we would have thousands of articles on virtually unknown people. I am seeking help to deal with the disruptive behavior of User:IAF on the pages of Indian religions. He is intent on proving that Jainism is a derivative of Vedic religion and ignoring all the proofs and multitude of references of western and Indian scholars that I have provided. He is indulging in edit warring and ignoring the antiquity and contributions of Jainism and Sramanas to the Indian Culture. Maximum, that he can turn up with is 2 or 3 websites as sources and fringe theorists like Stephen Knapp – who claims that all Greeks, Romans, Egyptians were Hindus and Taj mahal was a Hindu Temple. I'm afraid I don't have the necessary knowledge to effectively deal with your conflict on Indian religions, but I did what I could and added my suggestions to Discussion with IAF. Please read them and see what you and Anish Shah can do. I think that the most important step in resolving this is to avoid assumptions of bad faith. I would suggest that you copy and paste sections from the article that are disputed onto the talk page and change the disputed parts as you see fit, then let Anish Shah do the same, and compromise using both of your ideas and others'. I'll try to fix the grammar, as that appears to be a recurring issue, and look it over to see if it's unbiased and well-referenced; I'll assume that both of you as well as others such as Legalese and Manish Modi will do the same and help refine it. Then it will be fit to edit in the actual article. You can contact me on my talk page if anything important happens.

Well, I tried, but I really don't know that much about the early history of Jainism that hasn't already been covered.
You have clubbed me at par with IAF. Maybe you have not read the talk pages properly. He has flatly refused for any consensus or compromise. I assumed that he wanted some consensus when he started talk on my talk page. But he is simply playing around. He has never claimed that he wants consensus. Its not that I was not in disagreement with other editors. But I have made many compromises when others were right. But this chap is simply pushing his POV.
I recognize that, but a sentence or two describing the theory his references propound wouldn't hurt, as long as they are well-referenced and avoid original research.
Maybe be you have not realized that I have given more than a dozen references for each and every point I made. Believe me, it is a painstaking work going thru all the books. He simply has one or two sources from websites and one source from googlebooks.
I've seen your large lists of references, but those generally promote the status quo of the article, which says that sramana and Vedic traditions were separate. His lack of sources does not prove him wrong, but he should have better sources. We can only add in the parts of his theory that he has sources to back up; if he had better sources, it might be possible to make a larger section describing these alternate theories.
He has no scruples in quoting Stephen Knapp, who is making preposterous claims that all ancient cultures like Egypt, Greeks etc. were Hindus. If Stephen knapp is admissible as a reference then I have ten dozen Jain orthodox sources that make many claims that may not be acceptable to scholars. But I am refraining from doing that.
Stephen Knapp does not claim that all those civilizations were Hindu; he claims that some of the features in their beliefs and art resemble those of Hindu art, which is possibly true. If IAF claims that they were Hindus, that would be original research.

To end the divisions, just type in at the proper spot. You can use this to help with formatting (removing the user page template and blue box, the line breaks, and the "nowiki" templates).

The article Anekantavada has been promoted as GA and now I intend to nominate it for FA status. However the promoter of article Redtigerxyz (talk·contribs) was unable to check all the references and has put a checkcite tag on the top of the article. This is a stumbling block for FA status. He has suggested that some one with good knowledge of Jainism review the article as to – “whatever written in the article is a fair interpretation of the philosophy of Anekantavada”. You find any concerns this may be corrected. Then you can leave a note to this effect on the talk pages of the article and then this tag can be removed. As you have a fairly good amount of knowledge of Jain philosophy, I seek your assistance to review it for any inconsistencies as per your understanding and then leave your comments. To new and even more interesting projects, of course!
As announced in the newsletter, I've been preparing to co-coordinate a large collaboration/competition called Around the World. It was going to be run at the Awards Center, but since that no longer exists, the collaboration will be hosted somewhere else.
Around the World will begin July 15th as planned - it's location will be announced soon.
It'll be a blast. In the competition, participants will be helping to develop over 200 pages (drafts, which will be moved to article space once they are ready), using advanced tools to edit every single one of them!
This is going to be interesting.
And the event shall have awards which are being created specifically for it as we speak!
If you would like me to keep you informed of this and other interesting collaborations I'll be working on and/or organizing in the future, please drop me a note on my talk page, and I'll be happy to keep you in the know.
If everything goes according to plan, it will begin on July 15th.
The event is being co-sponsored by Wikiproject Lists of basic topics and WikiProject Geography, and participants will be "traveling" all around "the World" visiting each country online (here on Wikipedia and perhaps beyond) as they apply advanced wiki-tools to improve pieces of the profiles of each and every country on Earth!. Each pass through these pages is a "trip around the World..."
Each page presents essential information on each country in a topic outline format, for ease of overviewing and navigating. Most of the topics presented are linkified, which turns these pages into a hypertextual map to material about each country on Wikipedia. When completed, they shall all become part of Wikipedia's contents system.
The pages share a standard format, with the information on each country presented in the same general order. So rather than getting stuck on a single country trying to complete it, each participant works on all 200+ political entities, completing a single data item or detail across all of the pages!
For this they use advanced tools like WP:AWB, Linky, etc. It goes fast, and since others are doing this at the same time, it makes "the World" feel like a beehive, and the participants are its bees. :) The energy is contagious.
And since you are moving from country to country, the tasks make it feel like you are traveling around the world, and you get to learn a little about every country as you do so.
This approach also allows for greater efficiency, because by the time you've done 30 or so of a particular item, you've figured out how to finish it faster and more effectively (such as where to find the data or how to make adjustments), and this specialization speeds up development - but more importantly it reduces errors.
The tasks are varied, which adds even more variety to the project. Some tasks are look-ups-and-fill-ins, some are copy and paste, some are image hunts, some are maintenance adjustments, some are link fixing, some are blue-linking (creating an underlying redirect so a link turns blue), some are fact checking, etc.
For an example of what a nearly complete page looks like, see these:
During the collaboration, co-coordinators will be standing by, to lend a helping hand to participants, provide instruction and tips on how to use the tools, and help them find what they are looking for. Co-coordinators will also be using advanced tools to inspect the work of participants, and touch it up as needed, or if a task was done wrong throughout, point this out to the participant so he or she can make the necessary corrections.
Co-coordinators are working on the set of pages right now, to familiarize themselves with "the World" so they can help more effectively by the time the main event starts. But there's still lots of preparation left to be done, and we are looking for editors experienced in advanced wikitools who would like to become co-coordinators.
I see you were listed as a participant in the League of Copy-Editors so it seems likely. The thing is the Military history wikiproject urgently needs prose pros to help with our best articles. Milhist covers a broad range of interesting and varied subjects from film to biography, battles to weaponry, and Roman emperors to twentieth-century dictators. In Milhist, A-Class has become the last port of call before FAC and we are looking for people to help identify prose and MoS issues at A-Class A-Class Reviews and help fix them prior to featured article candidacy. We also have a copy-editing section in our Logistics Dept and that can always use experienced copy-editors. For most of our articles, you don't need to be a specialist in the subject matter, just good with words.

...at the Geography WikiProject, cuz we're working on something BIG...
For the past several months, work has been underway to develop a set of country outlines, and now they are getting close to being ready to move to article space. There's over two hundred of them, so when the move takes place it will be a pretty big event.
Adding or correcting other data (fixing redlinks, filling in blanks, etc.) in the overall set. This is the main type of work participants in our upcoming contest will be doing (Penubag is hard at work creating awards for this, and they look great!). The reason we're doing some of this work now is to get a feel for it, to develop the fastest methods for each type of task so as to best direct contestants on what to do.
Improving the overall design and implenting changes on all 247 pages, whether in article space or not.
The main thing that needs to be done to the outlines so that they can be moved to article space is correct and complete the government branches sections, many of which include incorrect information that was placed there as temporary data by a template when these pages were created (in order to match the most countries and cut down on the work load). But there are plenty of other tasks too.
We're looking for editors who love to work on lots of pages fast, and who use or would like to use advanced tools like AWB and Linky. Most of the tasks entail working on a specific item on all of the pages in the set.
We're having a blast, but we're spread pretty thin and could sure use your help.

Penubag has done a fantastic job on the images for the awards we'll be using for our project's collaborations and contests. We now have 3 awards: a medal, a trophy, and a race ribbon. They all look tight. The trophy needs a small adjustment, but other than that, all 3 award images are complete and ready to use to create awards with.
Spartaz has warned us of (threatened to take) G4 (speedy delete) action if we run a competition that resembles the previously deleted Awards Center page. So whatever we do, any contests we run must differ substantially from the methods used there.
One type of competition I've been exploring is edit racing. I'm in the process of working the bugs out of this concept - the first race didn't work as expected - you see, because we only had an award for first place, the opponent didn't think it worthwhile to continue once it was clear who the winner would be. And since editors are in different time zones and usually need to start the race at different times, we need to base winning on personal start times - he who completes his assigned edits in the least time (rather than first), wins. And last but not least is quality control. What good is winning if your edits are ripe with errors? So I'll be exploring possibilities such as using a referee (whoever is overseeing a particular race), having participants watching each other for errors to knock them back, etc. I'm not sure yet.
Rich Farmbrough has been applying his bot expertise to filling in blanks in the country outlines (the population and area entries). I'm amazed at the number of edits he pumps out each day on a myriad of projects - ours makes up but a small time slice of his activity, and yet he has saved us many hours of manual work. Perhaps we should look into how he gets so much done. :)
Zlerman has chosen to work on one outline at a time, and is taking on Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. He also has been keen on noticing and reporting design issues pertaining to the whole set of country outlines. Keep up the good work!

As you probably know, this project has expanded to include working on any and all sets of pages that are linked to from the country outlines. Once the set of country outlines go live (in article space), traffic will likely increase for all the links included on them. The quality and usefulness of those pages will reflect heavily on the country outlines (the outlines, which are essentially lists of links, are only as good as the links they present), and therefore we've branched out to solve the biggest problems with those as well. So far, we've taken on:
The creation of disambiguation pages for country adjectivals ("German", "French", "Taiwanese", etc. About half done.)
The clean-up of the CIA World Factbook statistics on the "demographics of" country pages. We've been renaming those sections to provide a key string that AWB can use for targetting (for skipping and filtering). Once that's done, we'll be able to break the clean-up down into simple AWB search/replace tasks, because we'll be able to target just those pages that include the CIA stuff.
Renaming the "Cuisine of" articles to their adjectival forms ("Chinese cuisine", "Italian cuisine", etc.)
Blackadam2 and Thehelpfulone have been helping out with the "demographics of" pages mentioned above.
And we have a couple speed addicts (addicted to wiki-velocity, not drugs)...
Both Robert Skyhawk and Thehelpfulone prefer (and excel at) simple AWB search/replaces. Robert hasn't actually joined our team yet, but he has been helping out quite a bit from the sidelines (via the WP:AWB/Tasks page. Unfortunately, there has recently been a non-AWB chore that has been holding things up on the AWB front - an edit to all the the headings which had to be reverted before too many new edits were made, because any new edits would make the reversion more difficult. The headings have been restored, so now the way is clear for AWB operations, and there are many search/replace tasks in the queue. AWB assignments have started again!
There's a similar bottleneck on the "Demographics of" pages (the "keying" mentioned above), but that's almost cleared too. :)
With my internet access somewhat crippled, I've been finding it difficult to keep up with you guys. However, I expect to be accessing a Linky-capable workstation on a faster server (I'm on it right now, as you can probably tell from my contributions list for today), and so I should really pick up speed. Feels goooooood. :)
Recruiting has been a bit slow (but steady), due in part to my crippled access, and because we've been waiting for the images for the awards to be completed. I expect the team to grow more rapidly as the bottlenecks are removed.
Well that's what's been happenin', and here's what's in the pipeline...
I'm about to begin work on a set of lists that corresponds to all the standard links on the country outlines, and these will be presented on the Topic outline of countries which will be organized exactly like the country outlines. Aside from being an extremely useful navigation aid, it will allow editors to easily see the state of country coverage on Wikipedia. I'll provide you with a link once I get up to speed on this.
This project needed a shot in the arm. Also, its draft pages have been littering Wikipedia's categories for months. The time seemed right to move all the country outline drafts to article space.

Well, the drafts had been sitting in Wikipedia space for a year.

This puts pressure on us to get the blatantly incomplete elements of these outlines done. The only glaring problem is the government branches sections. These need to be corrected ASAP.
I've mentioned THE GOVERNMENT BRANCHES SECTIONS many times to many people over the past year, but the problem just doesn't seem to have been taken seriously. So let me put it another way:
HELP!!! I need your help on this now. Almost all the countries have a government with an executive branch, a legislative branch, and a judicial branch. The links for these branches need to be completed for each country outline:

There has been growing pressure on me to write up the administrative pages for outlines - their instructions, guidelines, etc. Therefore, I'm now in the process of composing these. Fortunately, it is mostly a matter of gathering material from messages I've written to you guys over the past year. Still, this is taking up most of my time, and I will be buried in these for the foreseeable future.
The next big task after the government branches sections are cleaned up is link support for the outlines.
There's quite a list of links and notices that need to be put in place around Wikipedia, providing access to them to readers, and alerting editors to the need to develop and maintain these pages. This will keep our bot people very busy (and happy).
But the most important thing right now is to get the government branches sections completed. So please, put your bots aside, roll up your shirt sleeves, and start typing.

This article seems to be entirely WP:OR. There is no discoverable reference to an 'American Five' in any major musical dictionaries such as Grove. All Google references seem to derive from this article.The members of the group have little or nothing in common save that they are American.
