This account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because your username, Queerboybait, does not meet our username policy.

Your username is the only reason for this block. You are welcome to choose a new username (see below).

A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account

You are encouraged to choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines and create the account yourself. Alternatively, if you have already made edits and you wish to keep your existing contributions under a new name, then you may request a change in username by:

  1. Adding {{unblock-un|your new username here}} on your user talk page. You should be able to do this even though you are blocked, as you can usually still edit your own talk page. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "E-mail this user" on their talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
  3. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names. The account is created upon acceptance, thus do not try to create the new account before making the request for a name change. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
If you feel that you were blocked in error, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|Your reason here}}, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. Alexf(talk) 11:30, 21 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

You blocking me for identifying myself as queer is anachronistically homophobic.

Decline reason:

This is not a valid unblock request. SQLQuery me! 03:21, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Request reason:

so is it the word "queer" that you have a problem with? If it were "gay" would you be ok with it?

Decline reason:

I am afraid not. "Gayboybait" would also be seen as a disruptive username. (Part of the problem is that "bait" can have multiple meanings in English. When I first saw your current username, I actually assumed it was intended to be homophobic, as in: "I bait the queers".) Personally I'm of the opinion that a less ambiguous and more neutral username such as User:Iamgay would be acceptable, but any username that appears to be a deliberate challenge to other editors (like your current one) is, I'm afraid, considered disruptive. Accept reason:

Allowing username change to requested username. Please put this request in at Wikipedia:Changing username as soon as possible to avoid re-blocking. jpgordon::==( o ) 21:06, 23 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your explanation, Yunshui.

I would advise that you read the relevant portion of the username policy that you were linked earlier. SQLQuery me! 07:37, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I read it when I was initially blocked. I am still not sure why I'm being blocked. If it is for the word "queer" it is a widely used word, even being part of the acronym LGBTQ.

Decline reason:

Yunshui has described it clearly. If you don't understand the username policy or how your username may be construed as offensive (excluding the use of queer) then we cannot unblock you out of ignorance of the rules. Mkdwtalk 09:21, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Have you considered selecting a username which does not mention your sexual orientation?--Anthony Bradbury"talk" 19:52, 23 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Why should he? If I renamed myself to "Ladies' Man", would it be inappropriate? Or "happy heterosexual"? But "Queer" is one of those right on the edge; still, I think the new name is just fine. --jpgordon::==( o ) 21:06, 23 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I did not say that he should; I simply thought that it might lead to less hassle if he did. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 09:45, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
