Hi ragesoss, we have a need for reviews of a number of history and wildlife-themed FP candidates. Will you review some of them? Thanks. (And always feel free to nominate.) Papa Lima Whiskey (talk) 08:37, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Happy 10/10/10[edit]

Double Ten Day is, really, unrelated—but we don't appear to have a cool pic for this one

I suppose I should've timed this message at 10:10:10 too, but frankly, I can't be arsed. You know how it is.

Did you know... that tenten in Japaense writing are a little wiggly thing, a bit like a quotation-mark, which makes e.g. "ka" (か) into "ga" (が) or "fu" (ふ) into "bu" (ぶ) ?

So, take time out to have a bit of a giggle.

All the best, and 10-10 'till we do it again.  Chzz  ►  08:49, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mentorship[edit]

Hi Sage. I was wondering if you could take a look at an article that I've been preparing on Alaska's 1998 Ballot Measure 2. I've expanded it to over five times its original length, and any advice or help you may have to better the article would be greatly appreciated. You can find my article here: Alaska's 1998 Ballot Measure 2 —Preceding undated comment added 23:51, 10 October 2010 (UTC).

Article Review, etc.[edit]

Sage, I was wondering how I can get my article reviewed with the wikipedia article assessment criteria in mind. Right now the review is for the old article that had only a lead without any expansion. Also, is there a way to expedite the "DYK" process now that my article is on the discussion page?Kcahlber (talk) 14:21, 15 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

NYC Meetup: Saturday, December 4[edit]

We meet outside by the trees at 5:00 PM.

Our next Wikipedia NYC Meetup is this weekend on Saturday Dec 4 at Brooklyn Museum during their awesome First Saturdays program, starting at 5 PM.

A particular highlight for the wiki crowd will be 'Seductive Subversion: Women Pop Artists, 1958–1968', and the accompanying "WikiPop" project, with specially-created Wikipedia articles on the artists displayed on iPads in the gallery.

This will be a museum touring and partying meetup, so no excuses about being a shy newbie this time. Bring a friend too!

You can add or remove your name from the New York City Meetups invite list at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Invite list.

Hey![edit]

My name is Carlee Krichmar. I recently created a wikipedia account for my American Woman Writers class. I have written on the discussion page for "Ruth Hall"..I am not sure if i did it correctly though haha. But anyway I was wondering if you would allow yourself the title of my mentor for this wikipedia class project. Let me know whenever you have the chance. Thanks! Carleekrich (talk · contribs)

Thank you so much! Your advice was extremely helpful. I will definitely go back and revise that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Carleekrich (talkcontribs) 03:03, 7 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Middle School Classroom Project[edit]

Lori Byrd Phillips [HstryQT] and I have been in communicating a few times back and forth about a project I'm offering students in my 8th grade American Government and Civics course. I felt it meaningful if students are engaged in authentic studies where their project outcome is wanted and used by someone other their teacher. While educators have used Wikipedia as course content enhancement, I thought I offer to my students a chance to become knowledgeable in a specific topic within the course curriculum, and make a contribution to something or someone other than a grade.

The project, already in it's third week, asks teams of students, twenty teams together, 5-7 in each team, to pick a topical themed article in Wikipedia to improve upon. As 8th graders, actually creating an article I thought would be too daunting for first timers becoming involved in this enormous virtual community. Most of the 125 students have their own newly created accounts with Wikipedia.

As of today all twenty teams have gone through a series of introductory lessons concerning Wikipedia (https://wikiedit.wikispaces.com/ and then https://wikiedit.wikispaces.com/Week+1+WE). As of last week most they have picked their topical articles (https://wikiedit.wikispaces.com/Team+Topics). Now what I'm asking is can this project become involved in with the Ambassador program? Or is there another suggestion from you for each of the twenty teams to have access to a mentor within Wikipedia. I will also be participating as a student/learner/adviser, being that while I've be a proponent of Wikipedia being used in the classroom, I have not participated much as a contributor.

Currently my project information is published using Wikispaces.com; do you think it would be appropriate for me to set up my own subpage under the Public Policy Initiative, like the colleges have done, thus centralizing this entire project under Wikipedia?

Additionally, I'd like to offer my studies into Wikipedia as a workshop in the future to others teachers in Pennsylvania. I believe it's a great idea to get students involved in authentic project-based learning and Wikipedia a wonderful and safe platform to utilize.
