Facebook pages on Meta[edit]

Hi Sage Ross,

I found today page about Facebook fan pages on Meta and I somehow understand that you are little bit responsible for our online PR activity. I'd like to ask you about help. I established couple months ago fan page about our one WikiProject target about protected areas. We are using this group as place where Wikipedia can make advertising among people about what we do. Also we inform them about interesting news associated with protected areas. During the existence of the group I have accumulated a lot of knowledge which I would like to share with others because they might help or inspire others to make similar activity. It seems that is one of the possible way, how to generate new editors or at least use of non-wikipedian potential for opinions and so. However, I do not know, where is the best place to write my future report or how to make some publicity to this report. Would be a pity to write a report without some impact factor to our community. Problem with IP editor[edit]

Hi. I really need some administrator-to-administrator advice. Can you offer your opinions on Question 2 - 5 that I've posed at the top of this discussion?

Everyone else participating there is only focusing on Question 1, which I thought would be answered more quickly and straightforwardly, and is already being discussed at Talk:Kobe Bryant sexual assault case If you want to offer your insights on Question 1 as well, can you do so there? It depends on what they have questions about, specifically. You can try pointing them to this form, or they could email Jami Mathewson if they are interested in the US program specifically, or the Regional Ambassador for their area of the country. Template:Course page/Tabs[edit]

A few minutes ago, I was helping User:Kechambers with Template:Course page/Tabs. Why did you start with such a mess of code? Why not using the great tabs-template like (defacto) every WikiProject? mabdul 17:55, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time. Part of the code mess there is because it's part of the course page creation wizard. See Template:Course page. Setting up a wikiproject-like set of pages isn't very easy for a beginner, so that template was built to guide people through making a generic course page step by step. Unfortunately, that makes it a little harder to adjust than the regular tabs. I also don't like the appearance of the usual tabs as much, which is why I didn't start from that code.--Ragesoss (talk) 13:30, 25 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

MSU Interview[edit]

Dear Ragesoss,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.


So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.


Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. User script list deprecation[edit]

Wikipedia's list of user scripts is in bad shape, in that it is disorganized and contains many non-working, unmaintained, or thoroughly obsolete entries. Cleanup has been on the to-do list since 2007, but little progress has been made. Instead, the whole list is now set to be deprecated on 1 May 2012, to be replaced with a new list. This draft list has been up for about a month, and in that time I've been soliciting script users and authors to come add scripts they know to be working and relevant.

If you know of scripts that you would like to survive this deprecation (and are confirmed working and relevant), you're welcome to add them to the new list. wikipedia in English composition classroom[edit]

Hello,

I'm a graduate student at Northwestern designing a composition&ecology syllabus that I will be teaching this fall.

Besides teaching my students traditional writing skills, I want to teach theme how to do collaborative and web-based writing, although I need how to use Wikipedia myself first. Is there a standard tutorial series that beginners go through? Is there an introductory program that Wikipedia recommends teachers use for their students?

Backstage at the Smithsonian Libraries[edit]

Backstage at the Smithsonian Libraries is part of Wikipedia Loves Libraries 2012, the second annual continent-wide campaign to bring Wikipedia and libraries together with on-site events. Running this fall through October and November, libraries (and archives) will open their doors to help build a lasting relationship with their local Wikipedian community.

Organized by Wikimedia DC, this event will take place on October 12, 2012, and will include new editor training, a "backstage pass" tour of the National Museum of Natural History, and an edit-a-thon. Everyone is welcome to attend!

Need help with list[edit]

Dear Ragesoss, as per the discussion we had 6 years ago here: [[2]] I decided to create a new page to deal with the problem of under representation of several disciplines. Because several of the landmarks in a number of disciplines are not quite "discoveries" in the classic sense but rather theoretical exposition, I created a new list of timeline: Timeline of Scientific thought to address the issue. As of now the list is under construction. A lot more landmark of scientific thought, theories and hypothesis that have been influential have yet to be added to the list along with citations.
