The Random Acts of Kindness Barnstar

Imperialistic bot campaign

I removed the India and Hinduism ads from the Gautama Buddha article. I'm getting very upset by this imperialistic campaign to claim anything remotely related for India and Hinduism -- by bot, no less, without even communicating with the editors who usually work at the articles. When I calm down a little and have a spare moment, I'm going to raise this issue at the Community Portal policy discussion. Zora 17:25, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

Lost dont worry I will back you up. Gautama Buddha was born a Hindu, and is an avatara of Vishnu. Keep the bot running, and if there are any assessments (large or small-scale) I would be happy to help you.Bakaman Bakatalk 18:49, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
Zora, please assume good faith before accusing others as imperialists. The biography of Buddha is within the scope of the India project. I can explain if you want me to. Please do not remove project banner tags without discussion. Thanks, Ganeshk (talk) 18:57, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

Don't blankety-blank add them without discussion. Zora 19:18, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

We are not doing the blanking. We are merely organizing pages to see which ones need attention so that the 'pedia is bettered instead of engaging in angry racist rants.Bakaman Bakatalk 19:20, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

Thank you. It has been worth the effort.Dineshkannambadi 16:03, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

About Talk Page

Hello Lost, well the user that has frequently been attacking my talk page struck again last night. He is a sockpupeteer which I have been consistently reporting since the beginning of the month (see this category). One message he left last night seems rather important to bring attention to admins about. He claims to have written a program which allows him to create vast quantities of usernames and evade bans his other sockpuppets have recieved (see this). I have brought up the matter to many admins and have reported him through various methods (long term abuse, checkuser, abusive sockpuppet, etc.) Since you recently were involved in protecting my talk page I just wanted to let you know.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 16:31, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

The wp hindu myth template is kind of screwed up.--D-Boy 20:15, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks A Lot

Hey Lost, lots of thanks for the DYK Medal. I will try to keep on churning out DYKs. And yeah, you're certainly an inspiration for that. Thanks, again. Keep rockin' --NRS | T/M\B 05:59, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

Hey lost, I have completed my work on Kullu Manali Circuit. I completed my work on templates, redirects, infoboxes and categories. The only thing I would like to know is that how to start a new category, I mean I don't want to categorise that category under another category. Thanks Sushant gupta 04:01, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

Issues with LostBot categorisation work

Hi Lost,

This is with ref to the recent categorisation of Madurai by LostBot. This is not the first time, I come across a categorisation like this and I feel it is contentious as it may lead to POV. Madurai and the like of such articles should be under WikiProject Indian cities, rather than Hinduism, even though, the base info on which the article may be built upon is on Hindu dynasties. What do u think? -- Chez (Discuss / Email) 04:19, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

My Talk Page

Hey Lost, may I request that you unprotect my talk page yet again? I don't believe its good to keep it protected too long, as you have mentioned before it limits the barrier of contact for new users I have recently contacted. If I see another troll come by, I'm sure you can just as easily reprotect it. Thank you I appreciate it.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 01:55, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

Your recent bot approvals request has been approved. Please see the request page for details. When the bot flag is set it will show up in this log. Please note that your bot should limit itself to the standard maximum of 6 edits per minute (10 second throttle). -- RM 16:45, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

Hinduism deletion sorting?

Is there bot you could make for that?--D-Boy 06:49, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

No. I usually do it manually sometimes at Wikipedia:Hinduism-related topics notice board--D-Boy 05:03, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

My RfA

Oh, the humanity!

I had my doubts about a second RfA, but even I couldn't have predicted the way it caught fire and inexorably drifted to the ground in flames, causing quite a stir on its way down. Still, it was encouraging to see the level of support and confidence. Thank you for yours, and I hope I'll still have it the next time around. Kafziel Talk 14:34, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

Welcome!

Hi, and welcome to the India WikiProject! We're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of India.

A few features that you might find helpful:

There are a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:

  • Want to know how good our articles are? The assessment department is working on rating the quality of every India article in Wikipedia.
  • Can you code? The automation department uses automated and semi-automated methods to perform batch tasks that would be tedious to do manually.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask another fellow member, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! Kris (☎ talk | contribs) 16:20, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

WikiProject India Newsletter: Volume I, Issue 3 - December 2006

Project News
  • Name change of cities in Karnataka: A straw poll was conducted on the proposal to change the name of cities in Karnataka, per the Nov 1, 2006 decision by the Karnataka government to rename them from the current anglicised forms. The result of the poll was to change the names. As controversial as the decision may be in the real world, the article Bangalore in Wikipedia still reflects the old name. You may be interested in knowing why. Dig the archives.
  • New Project Noticeboard (Shortcut:WP:INB): WikiProject India now sports a new colourful centralised noticeboard. An effort to make the noticeboard current and dynamic was mooted a few days back, and Ganeshk came up with the new format. The new noticeboard will strive to be the one-stop shop for all project related information. The shortcut is WP:INB.
  • Members List: The old members list is being phased out to give way for the new members list. New members are requested to add their names to the new members list. As the newsletter grows, further issues of the Project Newsletter will be delivered to those enlisted in the new list. So dash down now, to check if ur name is in there.
What's New?

Congratulations to all contributors

Note from Editor's Desk
  • Welcome to the December 2006 edition of our newsletter. Time flies past like matter into the black hole. It is interesting to notice that we are already into the last month for the year of 2006. 2006 saw discussions and development beyond realisation. In the world of Wikipedia where quality counts than quantity, we have come a long way. We've made better than 'nothing', to say the least, and even that is an achievement. I take this opportunity to thank everyone including those who have dotted the i's and crossed the t's.
  • As before, we'd like to stress, this is your newsletter, and we want you to be part of it as well. Provide us with news tips. It can be anything related to the project, from discussions to calls for help, and other interesting stuff within our community. If you have received or given any barnstars recently, do let us know. Sponsored content for recruitments within your WikiProject sub-groups are also welcome. We'll be very happy to include them here.
  • Before we sign off, Advance New Year Wishes, everyone.
This edition special
  • How to?: The "how to" part of assessment is very simple. Just head on to the talk page of any India related page and you'll find the {{WP India}} template. Simply classify the article based on the content and the criteria mentioned here. You can find the detailed instructions here. If you think it may qualify for GA/FA status, first consider submitting the article for peer review.

Unassessed India articles of Top-importance

Hi,

I have edited the {{WP India}} template to add a few more cats. Here's your category. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 15:16, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

Usage of images in the newsletter

I would suggest not using the flag of India image while distributing the newsletters as it puts an unneeded load over the Commons image servers. Best regards, — Nearly Headless Nick {L} 15:24, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

WP India tagging of Bengali politicians

I noticed that LostBot is tagging Bengali politicians with WP India tag. However, this is creating a lot of false positives as all Bangladeshi politicians are also Bengali politicians. For example, LostBot tagged Abdur Rahman Biswas, our former president, with WP India tag. The only connection I could figure out was that he was in the Bengali politician category. But as you can see, all Bangladeshi politicians would be in the same category too. So, please stop using Bengali politician category for tagging with WP India project tags. Thanks. --Ragib 19:21, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
