Notability Guidelines[edit]

Station notability[edit]

People start internet radio stations all the time. Some are just one show on repeat. Some are internet "jukeboxes" similar to the "JACK FM" radio format. Some don't last more than a few months. I think that a station should have achieved some basic milestones in order to be considered "notable" enough for entry on wikipedia. Here are some of my thoughts so far:

  • Station should be at least two years old with significant history.
  • Station should have at least some mention in reputable news outlets, music or radio publications (insiders, magazines, newspapers, websites), or achieved some level of crossover into commercial am, fm, or satelite radio.
  • Station should operate more like a radio station than an internet jukebox. (produced shows, live dj's).

  • I don't know that the radio station vs. jukebox distinction is a useful one -- you'd be disincluding an awful lot of popular web radio formats. I would suggest the iTunes yardstick as one possibility for determining notability -- I don't think it's ironclad, as iTunes now carries over seven hundred individual streams and only does MP3 streams, but it's a good start. Podcasts, we could start with Yahoo Podcasts, but another source for numbers is needed. Haikupoet 03:26, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Show notability[edit]

I started a Internet Radio Station back in November of 2004. The reason I started the radio station, was to HOPEFULLY open the minds of the common FM radio listeners to the deeper tracks on both commerical & non-commerical Melodic Rock & Classic albums.

FM radio & MTV have destroyed Rock 'N' Roll. Some of the best music is being today, and no one can hear it. Why? Because, record companies are more interested in selling SEX, then selling music. If you are looking for great Melodic Rock, it's being made over in countries like Sweden, Norway, Germany, Finland & the United Kingdom.

If you don't believe me, check out bands like Pink Cream 69, Gotthard, Harem Scarem just to name a few. Ask yourself "Why, isn't American Radio playing these bands". The answer is simple, "Payola". Ask Sony. Back in the summer of 2005, Eliott Spitzer fined Sony 10 million dollars, for illegal business practices. Sony paid radio stations to play artists (I use that term loosely) like J-Lo, Shakira and Celine Dion.

My Internet Radio is not a IPOD station. I focus on Melodic Rock/Hair Metal,Classic Rock & we also support & play indie artists. I'm currently looking for other Rock 'N' Roll lovers to help with my station. If you're interested, shoot me an e-mail at adamz@steel93.com

If it doesn't have a guitar...It Doesn't Rock!!!!

  • Yes, but is it notable :-) Anyway, there's plenty of good rock out there, even made in America. I'm listening to some of it right now on radioio. In any case, it doesn't have much bearing on what makes a web radio station notable -- it could be the cheeziest, crappiest pop available, and it would still be notable if it was, say, the first of its kind or some such. NOTABLE!!! What is notable??? To have/run a Internet Radio Station is TRUE Rock Lover. Notable to me evens COMMERICAL...Money Maker....SELL OUT. Those who have Internet stations will tell you the same thing "The state of music is in a downward spiral". What is consider music today is a total disgrace. To make something notable, is to make the public aware of something, WITHOUT sell out. Believe in what you know, without making a profit selling your soul.
