August 2022[edit]

Stop icon with clock
You have been blocked from editing for a period of 48 hours for edit warring, as you did at Rapid-onset gender dysphoria controversy. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions.
During a dispute, you should first try to discuss controversial changes and seek consensus. If that proves unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Bbb23 (talk) 01:57, 15 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Irreversible Damage. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Sideswipe9th (talk) 20:39, 18 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Early difficulties at a gender-related article[edit]

Hi again, Ray. I can see that you've gotten off to a bit of a rocky start; that's unfortunate, but sometimes happens with new editors, especially if you happen to choose a particularly controversial article as your first article at Wikipedia, as you did with the highly controversial Rapid-onset gender dysphoria controversy (the word controversy is even in the title!) It's hard enough for a new editor to learn the ropes of editing here on regular articles on sleepy topics like medieval Catalonian peasant wars; on a topic like the one you chose, I would say it's as close to impossible as you can get, and is chock full of land mines and traps.

There's lots more I could say, and if you are still interested in editing at Wikipedia after your short block is over, and want some ideas of what to do next just {{ping}} me or write to me on my Talk page and I'll try to help you. Based on long years of experience and helping new editors, if you head straight back to the article where you had the trouble (or a similar one), you will more than likely end up blocked again, and for a longer period next time, so I'd recommend you avoid that for now.

You can still come back and become a successful editor here after that hiccup, if you wish to. I look forward to hearing from you. (P.S., you are not blocked from this one page, so if you want to talk to me without waiting for your block to expire, you can do so below; use the {{Reply to}} template.) Good luck, Mathglot (talk) 02:33, 15 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I see that your block has expired, and you have headed back to the ROGD article, where your next edit was immediately reverted. Since then, you've spent the rest of the time at the Talk page. You're free to do what you wish (within the constraints of Wikipedia policies and guidelines), but up to this point, all of your edits are related to this controversy, either at this article or at Irreversible Damage which covers a book that deals extensively with the same topic.
It's a bit early to see if this is the beginning of some lasting pattern of editing on your part, or is just where you happened to start out, and soon you'll be fixing articles on the Economy of Ghana or anything else that interests you. I'll just let you know for your own benefit, that there is a Wikipedia notion of editors who come here not really to improve the encyclopedia as a whole, but rather mainly to "right great wrongs" as they see it. This never works, and they end up leaving or getting blocked. I hope you're not headed in that direction. Diversifying the set of articles you edit would be a great learning experience for you, as well as introduce you to other issues of editing Wikipedia, and avoid the land mines inherent to a highly controversial article like ROGD. Whatever you decide to do, I wish you the best of luck. Feel free to ask me questions on my Talk page, any time. Mathglot (talk) 05:31, 19 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
