Randroide 14:52, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

An article which you started, or significantly expanded, Same-sex marriage in Italy, was selected for DYK!

Updated DYK query On February 26, 2007, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Same-sex marriage in Italy, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Thanks for your contributions! Nishkid64 00:22, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Hope you like. :) Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 00:34, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Request for peer review

The article Clinical psychology has just been listed for peer review. You are invited to lend your editing eyes to see if it needs any modifications, great or small, before it is submitted to the Featured Article review. Then head on over to the peer review page and add your comments, if you are so inspired. Thank you!! Psykhosis 20:34, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

Notes of appreciation are always appreciated! I'm going to call for a peer review of some of the articles that are the closest to GA on that list during the next week or so. I think we've got a good number of GA articles, and with a dedicated editor or so, more FAs! Thank you again for the barnstar, and thank you to you for your many contributions! EspanaViva 15:32, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

¡Madrid GA!

My suggestion is that you just plunge right into starting to get Madrid into GA shape, and when others see that you're actually doing it, they'll pitch in a help. That's what I'm doing with Spain, and there are three editors who are helping. So I suggest be bold and jump in! EspanaViva 01:34, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

You know, I just re-read the article again, and boy, it sure looks like it's GA quality already, and a long way towards FA status, IMHO. Is there anything in particular that you're interested in changing about it? At this point, I'd just be tempted to ask for a Peer review of it! EspanaViva 01:42, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

It looks like WikiProject member User:Javitomad es un madrileño, he may be able to lend a hand. I agree that GA reviews are not usually very strenuous. If nothing jumps out at you as needing changing, perhaps it is currently time to ask for a Peer review? EspanaViva 17:08, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Peer review requested for Madrid article

Per our conversation, a Peer review has been requested for Madrid, the article about the capital city of Spain. Please see the comments that are going to be left at Wikipedia:Peer_review#Madrid, and ¡buena suerte! EspanaViva 19:12, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Raystorm - two suggestions . . . if you Google "Madrid" and find five or six official and scholarly sites that provide reliable Madrid information, and add those sites to the references. Unfortunately, some of the references in the article now are for commericial tourist-type sites that I'm not sure count as "reliable source." Doing this Google work is a several-hour project that can be done over several days.
Second, if you haven't already done it, you might find it easy to put Wikipedia:Peer review/Madrid/archive1 on your watchlist . . . that way, as people post suggestions on the peer review page, would you be able to respond to their suggestions? Thanks! EspanaViva 22:13, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
BTW, I agree with Melchior's comment at the Madrid Peer review page about many of the subsections being "listy" and better placed daughter in articles! EspanaViva 21:03, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
Dev920 looks like a good friend, and I agree, solid suggestions. You might want to take a look at the refs I've been adding to the Spain article, and see if you can add anything from those websites to Madrid! EspanaViva 00:57, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Canvassing

Thank you for your support! Alerting a wikiproject to a vote that concerns them is fine. It generally only becomes a problem on WikiProjects that cover a lot of "fancruft", because they vote to keep the most amazing amounts of rubbish. We're fine because we all vote different ways. Alerting a small number of people is also ok, unless you are encouraging them to vote in a certain way, or you are alerting those people because you know they will vote in the way you want. As always, there is a specific policy on this WP:CANVASS. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 20:29, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Oh, cool! The FA is SSM in Spain, I presume? Any particular reason why the number of vote you need is 23? Well, I'm sure you'll get it, that is a fantastic article. Btw, thanks for your message on WP:AWARDS, several people have tried to de-escalate the situation, but to no avail as yet. Maybe yours will work. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 15:19, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

The ToK

Hi Raystorm! I've been working on cleaning up the Tree of Knowledge System article since you rated it. I even got Gregg Henriques to upload one of his diagrams for the article. It's still got a ways to go, but I'd be curious to know how you think the improvements are going thus far. Any further suggestions would be great as well. EPM 16:33, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

  • Hi Raystorm. Thanks for your suggestions on my discussion page. First, however, I want to give credit where credit is due. Gregg Henriques actually wrote the article originally for the Psychology Wiki [2]. I just copied it over to Wikipedia and have been making adjustments to it for Wikipedia. I've had some e-mail correspondence with Gregg. He uploaded the ToK image. He also read the critiques on the ToK discussion page and thought they were sensible criticisms. He's hoping that within a couple of weeks he can have some time to work on the article. Having said all that, I appreciate your time in reading the article and critiquing it. You've made some great suggestions. I'll keep tweaking it whenever I can. Also, would you mind if I copied and pasted your critique to the ToK discussion page?(BTW, have you read Gregg's two papers in the references section on the ToK and Psychology Defined? If not, you might find them quite interesting.) Anyways, thanks for your time. Have a good one! EPM 00:48, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Madrid Peer Review

Raystorm, mi amigo . . . I don't know if you've been through a Peer review process before, but when an article is in Peer review, I'm pretty sure that the normal expectation is that every comment will be acknowledged, agreed with (or not), and changes made. If other peer reviewers see that prior peer reviews are being addressed, you'll get additional comments. If other peer reviewers see that prior peer reviews are being ignored, they won't bother to add more comments. I understand you haven't been able to spend much time here, but could you at least add a quick "Thanks, I'll get to it ..." when people add comments to the Peer review page? I'm going to have to step away from Wikipedia for about 10 days, and I'd hate to see this Peer review opportunity not be fully used! ¡Muchas gracias para todo! EspanaViva 15:56, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

I think folks will understand that all those changes can't be made right away, but if you could at least post something like: "Thanks for your interesting and useful comments - we're working on the article and will incorporate your thoughts soon" (or something like that!) that is what most folks expect I think! EspanaViva 16:07, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
Hmmm, OK, I'm not sure I know how to close a PR, but I'll go take a look likely tomorrow (I really do have to run right now!) All the best, EspanaViva 16:23, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
I posted a "no more comments please" note on the Madrid Peer review. Here's something that you might find useful - when you follow-up on a comment you might want to type {{done}}, which looks like this:  Done. Cute and handy! EspanaViva 19:46, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Latter days pics

Unlikely. Obviously the entire film, screenshots, dvd covers etc. are all copyrighted, and they never really held "premieres" and if they did no-one took photos. I just took a shufti on flickr to find any free photos of the actors and I found...this... one... which I think is kinda gratuitous and going to distract a LOT of people. Fuck me, we need to upload that to the commons... Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 16:10, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

http://www.photodump.com/ appears to be a hosting service, nothing to do with copyright. I mean, the photo does look professional, but presumably is we upload it that person who checks it will find out. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 16:22, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
WJB's just as fast. :) Maybe we should ask the guy if he took the photo? It's conceivable he may have done. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 16:38, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
Well, like WJB, just because someone says it's CC-by-sa, doesn't mean he's telling the truth. Maybe we should comment on it. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 16:48, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Prime Minister or President?

Hi, it's "the same editor" here... Just making a polite enquiry about this usage. I know the Spanish translation is literally president, but this is the English wikipedia here, and the policy states that we should use the most common English term. Hence it's Kiev not Kyiv etc. As far as I can make out, English speakers and particularly the media, overwhelmingly use the term Prime Minister, including: CNN,the BBC, Tony Blair's official website etc. I don't want to start an edit-war, but we should be reflecting the world here, not trying to shape it!

Oh, and my move of the Prime Minister of Spain page was a somewhat late revert, not a move. The issue was never discussed fully on that page, and even the talk on Zapatero's page came to no real consensus. Cheers — SteveRwanda 20:16, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

President of the Government of Spain is the most accurate translation, used by the Spanish Government itself and the White House. A quick search in google would prove that President of the Government of Spain is also the most commonly used name. I cannot see any of the "consensus" you talked about and the previous page move to Prime Minister of Spain was done out of process indeed as it was never listed at WP:RM. Going on a rampage replacing every individual link on wikipedia to your preferred term is plainly wrong. --Asteriontalk 21:21, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

A nice chat

Lol, don't worry about it, you're the only person to have congratulated me. I guess I'm writing too many. :D Andrew is the next planned FA, but then, I've been planning Peter Sarsgaard for about four months now and wrote Latter Days and Trembling instead! Oh, and nice work on Madrid, it's really starting to improve. You sound as busy as I am.
It's really great hearing that you're having such success, I've been keeping an eye on the project page and while I have no idea what's going on, it looks quite impressive, especially your ratio of users to talkpage activity. :). Unfortunately yours is the only WikiProject having any success, I'm getting dismal reports from the German, Russian and Hebrew Wikipedias. Apparently they are being frustrated by homophobic editors who are preventing them from getting anywhere. Have you had any trouble at all? I suppose being the second most widely spoken language gives you a better social mix.
I've been thinking about a MetaProject for a while, to bring together all things LGBT and coordinate inter-lingual issues, but I'm starting to think that we also need one to investigate these claims (GLGerman claims homophobic admins are blocking him for merely editing, and I have no idea whether that's true or not), and have the Foundation's non-discrimination policy enforced where needed. If people are being intimidated on Wikipedias in languages limited to a single homophobic country, we who are free need to stand up for them. What do you think? Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 00:57, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
I think that's an excellent idea, Dev. I often take for granted the freedoms I have, and should do more to support those in other countries who are more targeted than I am. This extends to the right to edit Wikipedias in their own languages. Please let me know how I can support this goal. Jeffpw 09:20, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
Hi Jeff! :-) Long time no see. I'm gonna paste my response to Dev here so we can keep the chat on one place (if it is still going on, that is hehe). ;-) -->

'About your query, so far I haven't had any problems at all at es:wiki. In fact, I get the sense that most admins there are quite supportive of gay issues (you know, quick to revert anti-gay propaganda -of which there's a lot- and argue anti-gay comments at talk pages). And our FA sailed through without a prob (24-0) [10] . I also got a lot of help when I was first building up the project, and some editors even warn me when discussions about deleting LGBT articles are taking place. I'm sure sooner or later we'll hit some snags, but I'm not getting homophobic vibes so far from registered editors, and I'm certainly not being prevented of making contributions. If there are problems in other Wikipedias we may need to check it out. As you said, it would be our responsability. It is a serious accusation. Unfortunately I don't speak german (only french and a smattering of italian), so I can't check it out either. But there must be someone here that speaks german and can do that. The idea of a MetaProject sounds good, although we would need editors that spoke several languages just to understand each other. :-) The wikis that have homophobic editors would certainly find it helpful. I think the idea has a lot of potential!' Raystorm

Excellent. I'm starting to make enquiries on Meta, so the ball is rolling. Here's to freedom. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 23:19, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
Great. Please tell me if you need any help! :-) Raystorm 14:36, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Goodness !

No, I wasn't saying or implying that at all ! I'm not sure why you thought I was saying you were the problem; I thought the issue was that you had been unfairly primed by others, and other conflicts came into the FAC. I defended you many times during that, and still do ... I'm unsure why you may have misinterpreted my comments, but I'm sorry for any misunderstanding. Saludos, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 18:08, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

Who do you mean, then, saying Do you remember who became the most critical and uncivil during that FAC? Raystorm (¿Sí?) 18:29, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
Well, I wasn't saying it was you ! I didn't want to dig back into diffs to remind myself who had cranked it all up, but I wasn't saying it was you. I remembered an exchange that involved Dev and Jeff, but didn't know which was which, and didn't really think it important. And I overlooked the Explorer issue as it seemed a misunderstanding and case of you being primed (I can see where I may have been wrong on that, as I didn't follow that closely which came first). It was a successful FAC ! And I'm also sorry you felt we were "talking behind your back". Goodness, Dev brought up an example of the issues at FAC, that I thought clearly showed the problems occurred due to a multiplicity of causes, and that it was an oversimplification to blame reviewers. I'm sorry you got "talked about behind your back" in the middle of it; it wasn't intended. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 18:35, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
Yes, I understand. I hope with time you'll view it as the success and collaborative effort that ultimately resulted, though. Best, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 18:40, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

Heya!

Thanks for your message! Btw, I'm sorry about any offence or hurt I caused you on WT:FAC - certainly none whatsoever was intended. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 15:37, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Ooh, yes, loads of ideas. I want to get the LGBT lists done this week so we can send out a press release to the gay papers and all the websites who have inadequate or unreferenced lists of gay people saying "Look what we've done!" (Sandy's already on board with that). And then when we're done with that I want to use it to spruce up all our other people lists (bisexual, jewish, transgender etc.) and also start some new ones (christian, muslim) and then make them all FL and get them Featured Topic. I really think it would be cool, once we get the portal Featured (which should be fairly simple now Fireplace has done such excellent work on it) to start a Current Events LGBT portal, if we can, though I think that would take some effort to get going. I want to revamp our main page to be more accessible to the casual user, as I've noticed there's been a lot of astonishment when I mention pages we have on the talk page ("We have a quilt? We have core topics? We have a website?") so I want to make it easier. I had this interesting idea that we could make a list of all the bios we have without images and try to find free ones, and create a gallery article of all the ones we do have. And I think we ought to set up some kind of FA mentoring scheme on WP:LGBT, because a lot of people seem nervous about submitting them (and I feel kinda embarrased that I have written 40% of our FAs listed) and we could get people, like you, me, Celithemis and others to guide other people in getting their articles passed. Since we've set up, our coverage has improved immensely, but it's not reaching those top levels, and I want to do something about that.
Oh, and I want to get round to setting up that meta project I've been thinking about so long. That's all my ideas, I think. What do you reckon? Had any yourself while Ive been away? :) The exams went mostly well, I think. Possibly dropped a few marks because I was reading stuff, but I'll find out on August 16.) Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 16:02, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
You know, I would seriously consider it, but unfortunately I'm going on holiday from the 28th to the 27th of July. It's a real bitch, PrideLondon is on the 29th, and godammit I only got outed in October and I want to go to a pride parade! Still, I suppose there is a good side: if I have to wait until next year I'll have left home and there won't be any need for an awkward conversation with my mother...
A FAC FAQ sounds interesting. I started writing one, it's in my drafts but I never finished it. If you would be willing to translate yours it would certainly be worth taking a look at. I am supremely jealous of your constant turnover of FAs at eswiki, we need to beat you. :) But I'll get on with the images after we've finished the lists so we can use it to sort them: having a complete list of all our LGBT biographies is going to be a great blessing I expect!
I have a place at Manchester for Theology, if I get my grades. Pride parades galore. :) Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 16:38, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

You do if your parents want to know everywhere you go... Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 17:21, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
LOL! Unfortunately I live in Essex, and also... I'm going to be on holiday, remember? :D Nah, I'll get there one day. Maybe Manchester pride in August, accompanying friends and miserliness permitting... Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 17:42, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

I ran it through google translator and it looks good (though there are some weird phrases, "If it is a concrete problem that requires the attention of a librarian, it goes to the Plank of announcements of librarians", "This becomes as well as result of a voting that was." and the sheer mindboggling "Kitchen maid there when you are in your article" :D). I look forward to the english translation though. :) Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 17:26, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Generally, discussions are not deleted in order to keep a record of what has occured (so people can refer to something in the future). I've seen the discussion myself, and it had basically nothing to do with the article other than being a plea. The best thing to do (if anything) in my opinion is to archive that section. Your challenge

You're on. :) Which reminds me, I challenged Polymathematics to a Jumpaclass a couple of months ago and never got back to him. I'll take him on after I've beaten your arse in a editing pulp. :D I'm back on July 28, give me a day to get oriented again, so game on from July 29? Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 13:30, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

That is SO cheating. :) Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 18:25, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
Well, I've decided on Robbie Ross - his article hasn't improved substantially in over three years. It says that it's a start class article, but it's roughly the same length as LGBT rights in Spain. Is your article wrongly assessed or is mine? :) Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 14:37, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
I'd better do that then. After all, we have to start on an equal footing on enwiki, even if you have a clear advantage elsewhere. :) Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 14:44, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
We can take a break if you want - nothing in the rules that says the seven days have to be consecutive. :) Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 21:07, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
Nah, I'll stop working on Robbie on 2nd of August and we can resume when you come back. Besides, I've already submitted Oscar Wilde to peer review, so I have to work on him sometime. :) Do let me know the address of the IRC channel. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 21:33, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
No, second to the fifteenth is fine, as long as I remember to renew the books I'm getting out of the library. :) I've got a big list to deal with. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 18:07, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
Oh, you're going to lose and you know it. :P Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 23:57, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

Last RfA didn't go so well. I don't really want to suffer such unjust accusations and comments again. Perhaps if there was some way I could be nominated without having to read the RfA. Ever. :) Say hi to the chaps in the channel for me.

I admit, I am surprised Lestrade hasn't been reprimanded yet, he's clearly deliberately trolling all sorts of articles. On Talk:Mosque, he tried to claim that mosques are predominently used as terrorist training centres. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 00:16, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Well, they weren't really relevant when the last one happened, and I've made a few more enemies since then. But ok, because it's you, and because it would be useful to have the tools, and because three other people have asked to nominate me and it's starting to get annoying :), I'm willing to let you nominate me. I'll go write some responses. But I'm not reading it til after it's over. Probably. Maybe.
And until I find my library card, which has incoveniently gone missing, you have the advantage in the Jumpaclass dammit. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 09:37, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
I turned him down, so it should have been deleted. Go ahead and overwrite it. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 10:36, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
Thus it begins. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 12:08, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Real Madrid shirt numbers

The article doesn't state Soldado is getting #9! All he was saying that if he gets it, he hopes it would not be a burden. Calderón had made a statemant that van Nistelrooy will wear #9, last month. If soldado was assigned #9, then I would think there would be a complete list of number assignments! Raul17 18:42, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

What does,"Sólo me queda trabajar y si es con el "9" mucho mejor", means? Raul17 19:55, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
"I'm going to keep doing my job, and if I do it wearing the 9, even better", does not sound like Soladado was assigned his favorite.
; ) Raul17 21:31, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
van Nistelrooy will be wearing #9. Calderón made the statement that he will. If I understand it, in Spain you can say you'll play the 9 as reference to a position. Raúl was often quoted that he wanted the seven role (though, I don't know where it is!). But it is more common to play the 10 as in the play-maker's role. Frankly, I am more interested in Balbao then Soldado who I remembered as a very poor finisher, missing several goals! Raul17 23:07, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
Until I see a shirt with Soldado and the number 9, then I will believe. Like I said, if he was given the #9, then what are the numbers for the rest of the squad?! Pre-season doesn't mean a thing. Didn't Raúl Bravo wear the #5 shirt in a pre-season game last season? Raul17 21:43, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

Jumpaclass

Good luck ;) --Ecelan 16:44, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

What are the new kit numbers?

Since Soldado has the 9, what are the other squad numbers? Raul17 18:39, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your support in my Request for Adminship. Unfortunately the nomination did not succeed, but please rest assured that I am still in full support of the Wikipedia project, and I'll try again in a few months! If you ever have any questions or suggestions for me, please don't hesitate to contact me. Best wishes, --Elonka 03:05, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the kind words, they really do help.  :) --Elonka 20:36, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
They do, though I should tell you that I am not running for admin again. Too many enemies (guess who they were in the last RfA...). Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 21:54, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

11-M

Hola, Raystorm.
