DyingScene.com

Good day Girl - I'm writing to you today because someone at wikipedia is practicing favoritism regarding the extension DyingScene.com. I am unable to use this extension as a valid citation source due to the fact it was blacklisted over 7 years ago. How can DS not be considered a valid news source when sites like punknews.org and absolutepunk.net are? They do more interviews, album reviews, exclusive premieres and publish more original content then either of those sites. This week, an admin deleted a page I created because wiki will not accept DS as a valid source. Please instruct on what avenues we must pursue to get justice in this matter, thank you.   • I'll reply on your userpage. On a side note, it's usually better to just approach one person than to go posting on multiple pages. A good place to start is usually at the WP:TEAHOUSE or at WP:RS/N for reliable source questions. However since this was blacklisted, it becomes slightly more complicated. Sorry to read that "I'd actually gotten pretty heavily insulted in the process and accused of WP:BADFAITH deletions" because of the removal of some of the articles I have written. I can assure you that if I could I would defend all my posts, with detailed references & bibliography.....but admins like user:Vituzzu NEVER allow a defense (to get more information on him please go to [1] and click on Manmer2015 ....so you'll understand more about who really is this "deletionist" damaging Wikipedia with his "evilness", as he wrote on his user page). I hope you are the kind of people who listen to both sides before making judgments about a person accused of vandalism on Wikipedia: so allow me to defend myself pinpointing that I have never damaged Wikipedia ....while I have written more than 100,000 posts on Wikipedia in 8 years after my "ban", that was based on complete lack of justice (only if you are hurt like me, you'll behave the way I did: a vandal will abandon Wikipedia soon or later as all of them do, don't you agree?). Anyway, I wish you the best in your life....BD

PS: A lot of the sections of what I wrote on "Christian Berbers" -just to show you a simple example- was transferred from other articles like Early African Church, Muslim conquest of the Maghreb, etc...but no one has complained about these articles for many months, while User:Berean Hunter with a bit of malignity found that "..In short, verifiability would be a nightmare.." on the article written by me ..........but if I could I'd be showing all the references & data needed, be sure of that! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.134.176.2 (talk) 18:20, 15 July 2015 (UTC)

  • Are you referring to the Brunodam articles and if so, are you Brunodam? If you are then posting on my talk page isn't really a good way to go about contesting this since this can be seen as a block evasion. You need to first contest your block, which will require that you explain your edits, why you did things the way you did, and how you can go about writing in a way that Wikipedia prefers. You can write a new version of the project but you will have to write it in your own words in a neutral tone. You will also need to show how this project has received coverage in independent and reliable sources per WP:RS. The project's existence does not automatically make it notable (WP:ITEXISTS). I am looking for feedback in regards to your declining of the submission of our draft for the Autumn Glory Apple (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Autumn_Glory_Apple). There are more sources that I found now, but it is a new product that is only grown by one grower, Domex Superfresh Growers, and was introduced in 2011 so it's difficult to find too many sources.   • I'm going to decline since I'm friendly with Bishonen, Spaceman Spiff, and Ogress, and thus more likely to think well of them. One thing I can recommend though: learn how to be more concise when writing out things. I've limited experience with arb requests, but I can say that being lengthy does not always work in your favor there - especially if the people you're complaining about can summarize their arguments in far less words. After a while people will start to just skim what you've been written and their eyes will glaze over - this is not something you want to happen at at arbitration. I've got a tendency to be wordy, but I'm trying to get better about that. I also want to suggest that you try not to bring up past things that the other editors have done unless it directly pertains to your editing. Not only will that help keep things shorter, but bringing up other editors' past conflicts (especially if you weren't involved) doesn't show that you're really WP:AGF. Re. User:Imthi nadubail

Hi Tokyogirl79,

I came across 'Imthi' edit warring over the name and many moves [4] of the now Perla, Kasaragod page. The 'Nadubailhero' account created Perla City on 12 July 2015‎, which was almost empty but basically about the same place (as far as I could tell, the map seemed wrong), hard to tell as the original editor 'Imthi' wouldn't explain what they were doing in an understandable manner. I have redirected the duplicate page back to Perla, Kasaragod.

Anyway, considering similar username and creation of a duplicate page about that place, almost 100% this Nadubailhero is a sock of Imthi nadubail. Just FYI. Pinging @RHaworth: as they were very involved with Perla, Kasaragod and 'Imthi' too, @GB fan: as they have reverted [5] related IP edits at Perla, which 'Imthi", and his other account, edited or edit warred at too, & @Agtx: involved with 'Imthi' & 'Perla' too. 220 of Borg 20:32, 22 July 2015 (UTC)

  • Zazier, I don't really use things like Skype except for school and my personal life - I generally like to stick to Wikipedia for discussions about Wikipedia. I also need to note that I did try to reach out to you in June via your talk page and received this rather nasty attack on your talk page in response. I'm not really keen to give you my Skype information since I have to assume that a Skype chat would have a very high likelihood of you using it as a venue to launch more personal attacks to my face. Forgive me, but I would really be genuinely uncomfortable giving out anything even remotely personal to you when you made a comment like that. If you want to discuss pages that's fine, but it will have to take place on either my talk page or yours - and the first time you make a personal attack like that again, we're done.   • @Levisfann:, when I'd deleted the page you had not edited for a few hours and I had to assume that there was a strong chance that you might not have come back. However at the same time, you also didn't really show how he would pass WP:NATHLETE and a search didn't bring up anything promising. From what I can see, it looks like this is someone who is only competing locally and has yet to compete on a national level that would gain him any coverage, as I can't really see where he's received coverage in independent and reliable sources.   • Kerplunk!, I declined the speedy since she has gained just enough coverage to where she would have the most basic assertion of notability. The thing about speedy deletions is that someone can pass a speedy deletion but still fail overall notability criteria. It's meant to really only take care of the articles that are so blatantly non-notable that they would be obvious, which usually means no newspaper coverage.   • MacPraughan, I can't entirely restore it since it was fairly promotional, but I have e-mailed it to you. I'll try to take a second look at the article to see if there's anything I can recommend offhand. I would say that you should definitely get someone from WP:MEDICINE to help you with the article, since they will be used to writing medical themed articles and can think of good ways to rephrase things. You missed (or discounted) the second article that is about the book, both are from reliable sources. The book meets WP:NBOOK number 1 and number 3, even if you don't feel the author is notable with dozens of cites (NBOOK 5). I've made a few of your suggested edits, I'm looking for the better page-numbering template. The Amazon reference points to the Reviews page, not the Sales page.   • Basically it's an issue with verifiability. There are long, long, LONG histories of authors and publishers deliberately trying to sway reviews in one direction or another. I can give you a few case histories of authors who tried to jack up their ratings by making fake accounts and times where an author's rating went down because they made the site's denizens angry. We can't verify the reviews, so they shouldn't be added. This also doesn't mention the fact that Amazon is a merchant site and they're there to sell you stuff, so using their site comes across as Wikipedia endorsing the site and/or the product - an impression that you need to avoid making since you have a strong conflict of interest here. MaxxCAT Search Appliance

    You have recently deleted an article that I contributed to citing G11.   This article is written in a neutral viewpoint,   it is not spam and it is non promotional.  I followed the Wikipedia guidelines and worked through Article for Submission with other editors. The MaxxCAT Search Appliance is notable in the Search Appliance segment.  It is notable for it speed and was instrumental in helping to push the search appliance into popularity along with Google GSA, Thunderstone and others.  Proper channels were followed to ensure proper referencing and attribution to notable sources. MaxxCAT is notable globally among IT professionals in Enterprise Level Corporations.   Please reinstate the page if possible,  or if you could make the content userfied, so we can discuss what qualified it as G11, I can make the proper edits. Thank you for your deletion of that page. I found it funny that I provided three CSD critera at the RFD and you ended up using WP:R3. R3 actually wouldn't apply to this redirect because it "does not apply to redirects created as a result of a page move." Since User:Btphelps/Sandbox/Walter E. Lauer was moved to Wikipedia:Walter E. Speedy deletion of List of NPOs in Nigeria

It was my understanding that G5 can only be used to speedy delete a page that was created by a blocked or banned user if the page was created by that person while the block or ban was in effect. With List of NPOs in Nigeria, it was created on June 6, but TejaswaChaudhary was not blocked until July 9. Is there an exception to the general G5 rule about the timing of creation for socks? If so, there are a few other page creations related to TejaswaChaudhary and/or Smileverse that I can request speedy deletion for instead of PROD tagging. Inks.LWC (talk) 19:41, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

Usually I never read his psychodrama, now I read what he wrote about you, though I must confess I had to jump several boring lines. He's such a big liar, I can still remember how "strongly" he pretended to be any of his different identities related to his sockpuppets. He actually lives in Miami area btw. Notwithstanding this any real life harassment actually damages more him than you for sure, I'm wondering about informing WMF's legal department. Anyway, my suggestion is ignoring his boring gibberish (don't read, just revert and salt, rants are never worth reading) but also share with fellow admins the burden of contrasting his recurring abuse. Mike Rossi

Collect suggested I contact you before I would revert his delete. While I don't dispute that Rossi is not notable enough to have his own article, I actually agree with it, his incident was more than notable and publicized enough to be part of Publicized incidents of disputed marathon results. Most of the incidents in the current list were half as notable as Rossi's and most of those have no Wikipedia articles either. He was offered $100,000 by two very notable and legitimate athletes running a major on-line running board and website to repeat the feat. Mike Rossi's LVM Marathon cheating is notable and big enough to be worthy of the entry on that page at the very least in the eyes of all legitimate runners in the running community. Thanks. I rather think the discussion which resulted in the deletion of the BLP was also an indication that the community did not assign weight to the affair sufficient to include it in any list on Wikipedia, and the claim that Rossi engaged in a fraud is a "contentious allegation" in any event. That other examples should be removed from that list hardly argues that this case should be included. Collect (talk) 21:47, 17 August 2015 (UTC)
The Marathon course-cutting article did not reference anything about fraud. It simply posted that Mike Rossi, based on the overwhelming evidence of prior race performances, lack of photos, expert opinion, and absolutely no evidence of actually running the LVM marathon in its entirety, is indeed a marathon cheat. The fact that there were dozens of news articles about Mike Rossi and his marathon "performance" qualifies it as a publicized event. If there is a list of such things, and currently there is, Mike Rossi should be on it.   • I would prefer that you not add it anywhere. The coverage of his alleged cheating is actually fairly light when it comes down to it. Most of the world focused on him pulling his children out of school, not the allegations. Some running websites did cover the cheating allegations, but by large most of them just sort of shrugged and moved on. I really don't think that this coverage is heavy enough to warrant adding this anywhere and to be completely honest, I'd actually prefer that the only people who are mentioned in the aforementioned article be people who have articles. There's a very bad trend on Wikipedia of people adding things to the site because it's recent or because they feel that they need to WP:RIGHTGREATWRONGS and call people out on things - and there were certainly people participating in the AfD who felt that it was their duty to let everyone know that they felt that Rossi was a cheater. It's actually fairly common for people to add things and then for these things to be removed later on because ultimately the event had no lasting notability. If people are still talking about Rossi in 1-2 years then this could possibly be added, but I'm kind of doubting that they will. It also doesn't help that both of you have signed up for accounts for what looks like the sole purpose of trying to add Rossi to Wikipedia. Tokyogirl79 (｡◕‿◕｡) 04:50, 18 August 2015 (UTC)

Notability State newspapers?

Hi Tokyogirl79, wandering around child lit stubby articles, i keep coming across ones with notability questions (you may notice that i occasionly put up stubbies for afd) as most only have 1 if any references. An example is The Z Was Zapped which at the moment has a reference to a piece in The Deseret News, the largest state newspaper in Utah. My question is - can state newspapers, what some editors might call 'local papers', be used for notability? thanks Coolabahapple (talk) 03:47, 13 August 2015 (UTC)

  • Coolabahapple, yes and no. It ultimately depends on the type of coverage, although that's debatable. The general rule of thumb is to look at the type of paper. If it's a major paper for the area (like New York Times or such) then pretty much anything they'll put out will be considered usable (as long as it's in-depth). The Deseret News would likely fall under this criteria for just about any editor. Now when they get smaller, that's where it's a bit more tricky. I'm kind of halfsies on this since I tend to think that any newspaper with a reasonable circulation that has a verified editorial staff would be usable as a reliable source. However I do know that there are editors who argue that local sources will cover local people for human interest pieces or will be more likely to want to cover a local person as one of those "local boy/girl does good" type of deals. They argue that local sources are depreciated because they have an interest in covering local people since it makes them look better. I don't always agree with that, since there are a lot of people and stories that they don't cover - plus these sources would likely be considered usable if they covered an out of state news story. Although at the same time, some stories are obviously "slow news day" human interest pieces regardless of where they're posted, like a paper covering the Beatles memorabilia collection of a local teenager. Anywho, I'm getting off track. In this case the news source would be usable if it was a review for the book or an article about the book. However looking at the source, it looks like it's only a brief mention in relation to another book (meaning it's not the book being reviewed) so it'd be considered a trivial source at best. A quick look for sources does bring up a few things that look promising ([6], [7], [8], [9], [10]) so hopefully it can be rescued. I'll try to see if I can find anything later on tonight. Hi tokyogirl, thankyou i will add your reply to my wiki useful bits file. thanks also for the article sources, i didn't have notability concerns with this article, just noticed it had the one newspaper source. By the way i've been reassessing the child lit stubbies, i have found quite a few 'starts' and even some 'c' class, also some caldecott and newbery winners and honors which i have upgraded to high and mid importance. i have now got long lists of articles which need improving - reviews/more references, infoboxes, possible mergers, and notability concerns. ps. also, when i have time i will be adding the occasional child lit article. will you able to assess them or is it okay for me to do so, they will of course have plenty of references so will be 'starts' and will probably be low or mid importance?   • Jaspergeli, it looked like you had copied part of your article from another source. This is considered to be a copyright violation and is not acceptable on Wikipedia. It also didn't really expand on the section Koi#Varieties, which already covers the various koi varieties. I know that this is not the complete-complete list, but Wikipedia generally only covers the major stuff and isn't really meant to be a complete list of every variety/strain of something, especially if it is not recognized as "official" by the various people. (This happens mostly in the cat and dog articles, but can happen in just about any species that has different variations of type.) If you want to try to create a new article on the list of varieties then feel free (although you will still need to show that this could merit an individual entry), but reposting copyrighted material is not acceptable and will lead to you getting blocked from editing, either temporarily or permanently. I have already warned you about this once on your talk page, where I let you know that this was the main reason for it getting deleted. Please do not do this again. Smelling socks

Thanks for your recent blocks related to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Toward the Tower ( Film 2019 ). I looked at the global accounts of the two editors and at the IP address mentioned in Wikipedia talk:Articles for deletion/Toward the Tower ( Film 2019 ). All 3 users appear to be from the same country (appearances can be deceiving, but I digress). I am very tempted to ask the Checkusers to run a "non-public-disclosure/admins can ask for the results privately" check so that the checkuser-evidence will be preserved. The purpose of the check would be to facilitate WP:G5 (blocked-user) deletions if this person waited until after the checkuser information would have otherwise expired then created an account and re-created the article.

I am concerned that such a request would be interpreted as "fishing." What do you think?

  • I wouldn't have an issue with a check. I do think that it's possible that the musician is trying to make a movie, but some of the claims in the article were pure hoax cruft. I think that at best this is the guy's wish list for a film crew. It not only had Stephen Sondheim (misspelled Stephen Sondhem) doing the music, but it had some pretty well known actors participating in the cast. (Timothy Spall from Harry Potter fame, Sacha Baron Cohen of Borat fame, and Colleen Atwood, who isn't an actress but has won gobs of awards for her costumes.) Even if this film is a twinkle in his eye, there's no way that a film would have these cast and crew members and have zero coverage. I mean, look at the news explosion when Cohen was supposed to be playing Freddie Mercury. I doubt that the news circuit would be quiet if he was in a short film about 9/11. I think that this was probably the guy's way of trying to attract attention and maybe get these people to be in his film. It's kind of a mixture of a hoax and promotion at the same time. I'd definitely endorse a check for sleepers and to see the evidence, just to see if this is a case of them trying to get around a block. At the very least it's extremely unlikely that anyone other than this guy would be trying to create an article or anything about this film, given that there's zero coverage out there. I mean, even SCHMIDT didn't seem convinced in any of this and he's more likely to give things the benefit of the doubt at AfD. Tokyogirl79 (｡◕‿◕｡) 14:30, 31 August 2015 (UTC)

I'd like you to go and comment upon the evidence I've posted. Basically, I'm getting the impression that this is a guy who is trying to repeatedly insert hoaxes on Wikipedia. The guy has claimed to have worked with some A list names and released multiple albums through major labels, yet he's received pretty much zero coverage on the Internet. Thanks for your help Tokyogirl79! Regarding the copyvio issue, I thought that I had provided Wiki permissions with permissions from Penguin Random House (of which Doubleday is an imprint) allowing me to use copyrighted text as long as I properly cited what I was using. Perhaps the permission was not received? Anyhow, thanks for pointing that out, and I will take care to not infringe in the future.

As for COI regarding the subject (Sides), I am worried about making the pages too promotional, and would very much appreciate if you wanted to glance at the articles I have created. I have to say thank you very much for even offering to help, as previous editors have only pointed out faults w/o any suggestion of how to fix, so thank you for that!

  • Artfuldodger06, I don't think I'd seen the OTRS tag on the article talk page. If you can get the OTRS team to put that up, the text can be used - just be careful since a lot of book jacket summaries can contain some promotional-ish prose. However that said, life would be a lot easier if we could use book jacket summaries for articles since re-writing them without closely paraphrasing or getting something wrong can be really difficult.   • Tortle, I'm not sure exactly how to move the old page history, to be honest, since restoring it would just restore it to that specific page. I don't think that there's a way to move specific page histories. I know that RHaworth deleted it and he has more experience with undeletion, so I'm going to tag him and see if he knows how to do it (and can then tell me how to do it as well). I also have to admit that I'm slightly concerned that you're taking on what looks like it'd be a fairly big project, considering that you're a very new user with less than 3,000 edits. This doesn't mean that I won't do it, just more that I'm curious as to why you chose to do something like this as one of your first big projects. Mostly I just kind of want to hear the reason for it and if you have someone helping you with this, preferably someone who is used to creating new WikiProjects. Jusdafax looks like he'd be down for the task, as does several of the people at the WikiProject Council. Making a new WikiProject is a huge, HUGE effort and I'd greatly prefer that you at least have a mentor on call for this. Again, not saying no and the major issue here is just that I'm not sure how to (or if we can) move a deleted edit history or if we just have to cut/paste the content, but I would feel better knowing that you have someone to help you with the overall details.   • I'm OK with you going through his articles as long as you make sure that they pass notability guidelines prior to accepting them. I know that he's created some articles that have passed notability guidelines, but he's also created many that did not, so I don't want this to turn into a situation where he uses and abuses your kindness. (IE, that he tries to get you to accept everything he makes and/or tries to sneak things past you, saying that you "approved" the article.) What bothers me so much about Dolovis is that I'm fairly certain that he knows policy and he knows what he should be doing - he just doesn't do it because he's more interested in driving up his article counts. I do think that there's a portion of him that means well, but I think that he's too overly focused on remaining in the top tier of article creators to the point where Wikipedia and other editors have suffered as a result, trying to clean up his mess. I do think that there should be a coda to this - if at the end of six months he isn't at least trying to meet the barest minimum of article sourcing, the probation should be extended. I do agree with you about AfC, although I'm trying to help out there where I can in order to try to clean it up some more. It is called 365 Penguins and involves, as the title implies, lots of penguins (when i came across the book at my local library and being a member of the penguin cabal i knew it just had to have an article).   • The reason I declined it was because the coverage was fairly minor, as it was just coverage from about the same time saying that the book would release. What you need here are things like book reviews or something more to show a good depth of coverage. The book releasing makes it more likely that there would be coverage, but it's not a guarantee and a topic's existence (WP:ITEXISTS) does not automatically mean that something is notable.
