CITGO vs. Citgo (August 14, 2005)[edit]

Hi Lifeisunfair. I noticed you reverted my Citgo->CITGO changeover, even though I can't find one shred of proof "Citgo" was ever used (did you look at their corporate website? They use CITGO)

As I noted when performing the page move, the Wikipedia Manual of Style indicates that we should "follow standard English text formatting and capitalization rules, even if the trademark owner encourages special treatment." Thanks for the reply! I didn't even think to check the history to see the reason you gave (which I should have), so I didn't see the excellent explanation.

Nah, the confusion is entirely understandable. The problem is that the MediaWiki software inserts the comment only in the source location's history (and not in that of the destination location). I hope that this is changed in a future version. —Lifeisunfair 14:28, 14 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Honourable discussion (February 12,2006)[edit]

Hi Michael, welcome to Wikipedia! With regard to your addition of "The Honourable" to Josée Verner:

The convention Wikipedia has chosen thus far regarding honorific prefixes is to avoid their use in the first instance of the name. This is why there is no "Right Honourable" in the beginning of the pages for Joe Clark, Paul Martin, Stephen Harper, etc. This is mentioned in Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_(biographies)#Honorific_prefixes.

I'm not sure whether I agree with it (and I do like the fact that the French Wikipedia has chosen differently with le très honorable), but as it'd be a pain to change everything, it's probably best to go with that. --Saforrest 03:33, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
