The Reason Project

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article The Reason Project, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of The Reason Project. A tag has been placed on Pony (programming language), requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may be soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. 331dot (talk) 14:41, 20 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), such as at Talk:Pony (programming language), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button ( or ) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. 331dot (talk) 14:44, 20 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Guidelines

[edit]

Thank you 331dot for the guidelines.

It is unfortunate that a topic that is already referenced elsewhere on wikipedia, (Actor model, Algebraic data types), but not with its own page should be deemed to be made up even when it already has related academic articles. If the issue is with the page proposed page being of insufficient detail then please simply state as much before jumping to conclusions.

I do realise that Wikipedia is often abused and misappropriated for self promotion, but in this case I really was attempting to make a genuine contribution.

RealityDysfunction (talk) 15:12, 20 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The criteria that the page was deleted under isn't just "made up", but something found by the person writing the article if it is lacking in independent reliable sources. I wish you well, and hope you take up my suggestion that I write below. 331dot (talk) 15:14, 20 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Re-Creating Non-Notable pages

[edit]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. A page you recently created may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines for new pages, so it will be removed shortly (if it hasn't been already). Please use the sandbox for any tests, and consider using the Article Wizard. For more information about creating articles, you may want to read Your first article. Notability

[edit]

Please read WP:Notability for information on what counts as notable. Just because something exists doesn't mean it's notable enough to be on Wikipedia. Canterbury Tail talk 14:34, 20 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Issues with Pony (programming language)

[edit]

Please note that while the page I was attempting to add to wikipedia may not have sufficiently complied with the guidelines I do resent being told that I an vandalizing a public knowledge base when I am merely attempting to contribute to the content. The subject matter in question is not for my own promotion but merely because there already other references to the particular subject within wikipedia: Actor model, Algebraic data type and I felt that it was an omission to not at least have simple explanation page with references to some of the key publications (interviews and academic papers). RealityDysfunction (talk) 15:01, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

I agree that it was a tad harsh to state that you were vandalizing, but continually recreating the page could lead others to think that. Regarding the page, articles must do more than provide a simple explanation, they must indicate with independent reliable sources how the subject is notable. I would suggest that you visit Articles for Creation to create your article, as you can get feedback on it and take time to work on it. 331dot (talk) 15:05, 20 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I agree I used the wrong template above, it's not vandalism but it is disruptive editing. The intent is not to stop the editor from contributing, and a block is not a desired outcome, however it sometimes takes such a comment to stop a disruptive pattern of editing. All articles in Wikipedia mainspace must pass notability and be ready for full consumption. You could also create the page in your sandbox and build it up there in the process to getting it in shape for full encyclopaedia mainspace. However as it stands it just doesn't appear notable enough for inclusion on Wikipedia as its own article. Canterbury Tail talk 15:20, 20 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you to both 331dot and Canterbury Tail for clarifying your positions. I admit I should have taken a step back after the first deletion. In future I will make use of the sandbox to first build up the page as suggested as I can see that having a simple stub page is not desirable as it is difficult to moderate even if it is valid content. RealityDysfunction (talk) 15:30, 20 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Actually stub pages aren't too bad, they are allowable for a while, but the article still needs evidence of notability. Canterbury Tail talk 16:04, 20 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
