Sorry for the late reply; a lot of people were leaving messages on my talk page that day and I must have missed yours at the top.

The issue of inclusion criteria in Wikipedia is one that has been discussed and debated ever since the web site started. Consequently, from these debates, there have been developed guidelines for deciding whether a subject should be represented. These guidelines can be seen here: WP:N. They are still and always up for tweaking — you can say your piece whenever you like at the talk page.

In most cases (at least from my experience), the decision is clear-cut. In some cases, though, it's not so clear, and that's why we have arenas to discuss them such as Articles for Deletion, and even arenas to contest/overturn a deletion that has already taken place (Deletion Review).

You would not be wrong to say that some deletions are due to an administrator's own biases, but that can't be helped when there are mere humans involved. Hence the fail-safes I just mentioned.

Administrators don't really know more than the general public, but they usually have been around for a while and have spent a lot of time on Wikipedia, so they would "know the ropes".

Is there is a specific article that you are concerned about? If you have any other questions feel free to drop me a line. ... discospinster talk 02:54, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The file File:Williamandstudents.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Orphaned image, no context to determine possible future encyclopedic use.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --TheImaCow (talk) 05:55, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
