RE: You're wrong.

Hi, I regret not having responded at the time of you message, also yesterday was the first day I used Huggle, I wanted to show you're wrong about that:
1 "I'm sure you've got a million more edits than me and much more experience"

My total edits and your total edits.

About the experience is not true, you have more experience than me, as I was saying that was the first day I use HG (I'm learning), and finally about:
2 "Oh, and try to leave some reverts for us little guys every once in awhile"

I'm sure there were more users were faster than me, so I asked the same thing as you: Please leave some reverts for us little guys. D6h What's on your mind? 00:58, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
No worries. I've been away for a bit, so I didn't even both checking edit counts. In my experience, whenever I speak up, I'm always the little guy. Thanks for getting back to me, and happy huggling!--GnoworTC 01:00, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
Oh!, I forgot to remind you to do a magnificent job against the vandalism, keeps so. D6h What's on your mind? 01:12, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

User:173.8.18.6's edits on James. J. Braddock

Hi. I normally do not refactor or remove other editors' user talk warnings, but in this particular case, I replaced your WP:V warning on User:173.8.18.6's talk page with a vandalism warning, because it was the second disruptive edit to that article within the span of 14 minutes, and looking at the two edits makes it clear that those edits were intentional vandalism on his/her part. I just thought it would be the courteous thing to let you know. Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 01:55, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

No worries. I must not have seen the first edit. When I'm not sure about the intent behind the edit that could be plausible with a citation, I toss up the WP:V template to give the user a chance before they start getting hit with a bunch of warnings. If it's already a pattern, by all means escalate it. Have a great evening!--GnoworTC 01:59, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
You too. And Happy Holidays. :-) Nightscream (talk) 02:42, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

Couto Misto

I'm afraid there are hardly any references at all in English for the Couto Misto (just a couple of quotes in Google Books). I'm trying to put together a paper in English on this subject (to be published elsewhere), and at the same time, sharing what I find in Wikipedia. The case of the Couto should certainly be better known. Thank you for your encouragement. Cgnk —Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.85.141.52 (talk) 10:05, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

Speedy clarification

Hi Gnowor. Thanks for all your anti-vandalism work -- it is appreciated. I just wanted to clarify that WP:G7 speedy deletion doesn't apply to the blanking of userspace pages. I declined your speedy request here. Good luck with your editing. Cheers. CactusWriter (talk) 20:25, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

I actually refreshed that page and saw my speedy was gone, anticipated this being the response, and doublechecked the speedy criteria. This was followed by a verbal "Whoops." Thanks for taking a look at my error. The reason for the delete request was actually less about the blank page and more about the page history which appeared to be blatant advertising. That advertising was brought to my attention by the edits of Gauchowest contribs here. All edits by Gaucho seem to be linkspam to none other than.... www.spasofamerica.com. Thought about posting a block request for Spas based on username-name of company violation, or on Gaucho, but another admin just posted a last warning for link spam on Gaucho. More than you wanted to hear I'm sure. Guess I just like to think I'm a thinking-man's huggler.--GnoworTC 20:31, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
No problem. I had also looked at the history -- and noted the username might be improper as a company or spam account. But the last edits were in April 2007, so I let it ride. Gauchowest edits will remain under scrutiny, of course. Thanks for the "thinking-mans" breakdown :) CactusWriter (talk) 20:44, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Thanks For The Unwelcome Welcome. Sincerely, A Constructive Protester

Thanks for creating a User Talk page for my IP Address, pointing to the usual intro material, but while I may return here from time to time, and go on occasional editing/anti-vandalism sprees, I refuse to re-activate my old account and resume regular contributions until the page for Allison Stokke is undeleted. 22:32, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Unfortunately, I'm not an admin so I don't have the power to undelete the page. I'm sure that if you can establish that the article's subject meets notability guidelines for people, that an admin would be happy to restore the page so you can add cites to reliable sources. I apologize if you don't believe that notability and reliability requirements are fair, but they've been established by consensus to make sure that Wikipedia remains valuable and not just a random collage of information. Without these guidelines, I'm sure you could see how WP would just become myspace or facebook. Thanks for the response. Hope you're having a great day!--GnoworTC 22:47, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Help

I just put what other people had on thier pages there when you revert someones edit. No one will help me, I just keep getting yelled at. Certainlyserpent (talk) 23:39, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Future events

Weighing in on your conversation above; the examples I like to use are celestial events and the 2013 inauguration. Lunar and solar eclipses are predicted well past the end of this century, and the schedule is reliably sourced; there are many pages of these, and the possibility of at least one typographical error only means they should be checked afainst other references. The 2013 inauguation, meanwhile, is years away and the inauguree would be speculative, although references to an approved budget or scheduling of events would prompt the creation of its page, though it may occur before the election, and before the inauguree is known, if properly sourced. Wasn't positive how to link to the policy, but made it the subject header. 75.203.136.226 (talk) 07:29, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

I knew I read it somewhere. WP:CRYSTALBALL might be the appropriate policy as well. Additionally, the edit in question happens to occur right before a comment that asks editors not to add speculation. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.--GnoworTC 17:23, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Gray Maynard

You've just reverted my edits to Gray Maynard's MMA record, but unless it was overturned (which I'm not aware of) Maynard's fight with Rob Emerson was ruled a no contest because he rendered himself unconscious when he slammed Emerson, (injuring Emerson as well). This information is right there on Gray Maynard's page under "The Ultimate Fighter". This fight was not ruled a win, and certainly not a win by decision. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.67.230.211 (talk) 08:59, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

You're entirely right. I remember the fight (and thinking what the hell just happened) but forgot it was Gray Maynard. I'm so used to seeing vandalism on these pages I guess I'm too skeptical to read. Thanks for your patience and for pointing out my error. I've restored your editon the page.--GnoworTC 09:03, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

Jacques Lacan

Hello! Thanks for your message. I'm very new to this and I'm not sure if this is where to ask. If it's not and you could point me in the right direction, I'd be much obliged.

On the page for Jacques Lacan, I added a "citation needed" note on the quote attributed to Slavoj Žižek in the "Desire" section. I read a very similar statement by Žižek, however, so I added a source at the end of the page. Is there any way to suggest a source for a needed citation? The quote given in the "Desire" section is not found in the essay by Žižek that I linked, but it is related in its content to parts of the essay. Gatid (talk) 09:24, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

I think you've actually handled the situation beautifully. If someone clicked your source, and it was actually linked next to the quote, they'd wonder why they couldn't find the quote. As such, it's not the appropriate source for that quote. That being said, perhaps next to your link, you could add a description of the type of material that could be found there. I'm going to give this a shot, but as I'm not familiar with the subject matter, feel free to change this to something more appropriate:

*[http://www.lacan.com/zizlola.htm Love beyond Law], further discussions by Žižek on Desire

This way, when they do see your link it the bottom, they'll know it's related material. Thanks so much for your contributions to the encyclopedia. Hope this helps!--GnoworTC 09:18, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
Oh, and always feel free to ask another editor if you see them around. Most editors are more than willing to help out. Additionally, you can post a message on the Talk page for each article. You'll find the talk page by clicking the Discussion tab at the top of the article.--GnoworTC 09:19, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

Thanks. Is there any way to link it more directly to the part of the article it corresponds to? Like the page could have the quote with a footnote citation after it, but instead of linking to the References it would link to the entry I added to Sources. It would make the source more likely to be noticed, I guess. Gatid (talk) 09:32, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

I think that it would be fine to just include it in the references section in that case. Again, you just want to make clear with the reference that it's not directly for that quote. For example, you could put the following next to the quote:
<ref>[http://www.lacan.com/zizlola.htm Love beyond Law], other discussions by Žižek on Desire</ref>
Hope this helps!--GnoworTC 11:51, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

re: situation

Hi - thanks for the message. I don't have any involvement to end - I just stopped the edit war. Actually, I think that if this pattern continues, some community sunshine needs to happen. He and the IP are clearly the same - compare their contributions, especially right after my 72 hour block expired tonight, and it's a slam-dunk. He's not here for the encyclopedia, and it's turning into harassment. Somebody may have crossed the wrong admin. Or maybe not. ;-)

I may need to contact you for some backstory to fill in gaps in my understanding. Anyway, if you need admin eyes in the future, just ask. Thanks. :-) - KrakatoaKatie 07:03, 23 December 2010 (UTC)

It seems that he's plastering that diatribe up there, about the size of different pages (WTF?), on every user talk page he can find, so I'm going to seek that sunshine right now. I'll have to do it on the fly, so please check in there in the morning to correct any errors I make. There will likely be an {{ANI-notice}} here your talk page after I post it there, so don't freak out or anything. ;-) Thanks. KrakatoaKatie 07:20, 23 December 2010 (UTC)
I greatly appreciate you jumping into what has become a mess despite my best intentions. I've moved the above diatribe to my personal archive of this mess. It can be found here.
P.S. Please note, we may have to trim that page, as it's now at 37k. :-P--GnoworTC 08:38, 23 December 2010 (UTC)
Not one kb of this is your fault. I waded into a MedCab case once, as the mediator, between two engineers over electrical engineering. One of them was later banned (guess who started the problem?) and the other got so frustrated with him that he eventually cut his involvement in the project way back. I was in a pretty bad auto accident in the middle of the mediation, and the instigator was community banned while I was away for three months. I was glad, too, 'cause that mediation was going nowhere fast. I thought it was due to me not being a good mediator, but it was the banned guy who was in the way, not me. People who are going to do this are going to do it no matter who tries to help. Just chalk up another stripe on your sleeve and edit on. You did a great job with the summary at ANI, and I'm grateful. Let's see what everybody thinks. ;-) KrakatoaKatie 10:32, 23 December 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the vote of confidence, Katie. Even as I was writing that post, I was thinking, "Hey, at least I'll get to know some admins now." I really appreciate all the support.--GnoworTC 10:41, 23 December 2010 (UTC)

ANI discussion

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there currently is a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. The thread is User:Bondiveres/User:64.85.252.225/User:Sgaran. Thank you. KrakatoaKatie 08:36, 23 December 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for collapsing it. I almost did the collapse box myself but I was so tired I kept futzing it up and collapsing everything on the freakin' page, so I just blanked it. I did good that time to get the '' around the italicized text. I also thought I'd saved the SPI request (for CheckUser) but I hadn't, so it's done now and should have a result soon. Merry Christmas, Gnowor! :-) KrakatoaKatie 20:12, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

Melissa Scott

Hi, I'm sorry to bother you with this, but I wasn't sure who I should ask about it, since I'm a bit new to this. Any advice you could give would be appreciated greatly.

A couple months ago, I had posted a section about Eugene Scott's widow on his wiki page which I believe to be factual and unbiased. Recently, a few anonymous IP addresses have continually changed the section so completely that I can only assume that these person(s) are personally affiliated with her in some way. Each edit they make is expressly to remove anything slightly negative about her and the new references that they have posted all link directly to her website.

The reason I came to you about this is that I noticed that you used Huggle to undo one of their changes a few days ago. Do you have any advice on how to deal with this? I'll stop the edit war now, haha, as it is getting ridiculous. But do you think I should just remove that section altogether? Thanks for your help!Gordonhigh (Gordonhigh) 07:19, 25 December 2010 (UTC)

re: hounding

That's not hounding. Don't worry about it. If he didn't want it seen, he shouldn't have written it, now, should he?

Okay... the article was created on December 22 by User:Marco10000235324. It's your typical 'I'm a stupid 16-year-old bored kid and I want to make a dumb page about myself', complete with stupid jokes, he's the greatest person in the world, yada yada yada. Three minutes after creation, it was tagged for A7, and one minute after that he added another stupid sentence. It stayed like that for another 90 minutes, then it was deleted.

His only two contributions under that username are the creation of this masterpiece and adding another stupid joke to this masterpiece. Nothing else either deleted or still intact. For admins, the page that lists contributions has a little 'deleted user contributions' just after 'logs', so we can see those as well as his non-deleted edits. He only has these two edits. Nothing else.

If you really want to know what he wrote, I'll tell you, but it's nothing you haven't tagged for A7 before. If you need anything else, just ask. :-) KrakatoaKatie 22:50, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks so much for looking into it, Katie. You're the best. Oh, and the sad thing? He's 22 not 16 if it's the guy I think it is. Have a great day!--GnoworTC 23:48, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

There's more comments on my user talk-page - the reason? As soon as the protection was lifted, the main problem editor started excising chunks of the article! :/ Grutness...wha? 09:37, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
And yet more comments atr my talk page. The anon is not Teroamahai - it is the other problem editor (whose views are opposite to teroamahai. This is the reason there has been no RFC in the past. Teroamahai holds one extreme view, the anon holds an opposing one - the (probable) best course for the article features neither but steers between them. Grutness...wha? 18:17, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
