84.68.55.56 block duration

Hello. Thank you for the block of 84.68.55.56 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log). You might consider a longer block, as it was previously blocked for two weeks for the same editing behavior (as part of the block at 84.68.0.0/17 (block range · block log (global) · WHOIS (partial)) as LTA/VCV has also used 84.68.49.93). Soon after that range block expired, they resumed the same disruptive editing behavior from 84.68.55.56. 108.56.139.120 (talk) 19:17, 6 July 2021 (UTC)

Hi IP, thank you for letting me. I have blocked the range for a duration of one month. Feel free to notify me if this continues. Ashleyyoursmile! 19:21, 6 July 2021 (UTC)

About a disruptive IP address

Hello, this IP address 2402:3A80:537:432:0:39:E20F:2C01, is disruptively editing many articles according to it's POV, please check on it as you did in the article, Religion in Kerala Lislecowls (talk) 07:51, 7 July 2021 (UTC)

Hi Lislecowls, the IP has made only one edit which I have reverted. Other than that, I cannot see any recent non-constructive edits from the 2402:3A80:50D:250D:0:0:0:0/64 range. Let me know if they disrupt further articles, or you can report them directly to the WP:AIV after warning them sufficiently. Ashleyyoursmile! 07:56, 7 July 2021 (UTC)

It has made an edit on the article Architecture of Kerala, I have restored it.. Lislecowls (talk) 07:59, 7 July 2021 (UTC)

Lislecowls, again it's only one edit from the 2402:3A80:537:432:0:0:0:0/64 range. You can just revert, warn, and report them if they make successive disruptive edits. Thanks, Ashleyyoursmile! 08:18, 7 July 2021 (UTC)

Oh, but I had seen edits by this IP address when I used to be a Wiki reader, don't know why it's not visible in it's contributions... Lislecowls (talk) 08:20, 7 July 2021 (UTC)

RE SPI

RE report, now that you have the bit filing on this SPI is probably not needed as they are typically blocked no tags anyway and are a dead giveaway on the content they create. You probably can just block them on sight for evasion.--Eostrix  (🦉 hoot hoot🦉) 09:29, 7 July 2021 (UTC)

Looks like Materialscientist has already done that and the account has been locked globally, so I'll just close the SPI. Thanks, Eostrix. Ashleyyoursmile! 10:45, 7 July 2021 (UTC)

About one past account..

I want to ask you a question, like I started an account in 2015, and stopped using it after a month, SmTkMrVrA (talk · contribs).........And now I am using another account in 2021, so can I reset the password of that old account which I have forgotten? Or you should block that account so that there can be no misuse... ItsSkV08 (talk) 12:16, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

Hi ItsSkV08, unless you have an email connected to your account, I don't think it is possible to recover it. You can find further information on the issue at Help:Logging in. Ashleyyoursmile! 12:28, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

Account-- SmTkMrVrA (talk · contribs) ItsSkV08 (talk) 12:31, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

@ItsSkV08: since it is not possible for me to verify that SmTkMrVrA actually belongs to you, I'll have to consult a checkuser before making such a block. Ashleyyoursmile! 12:39, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

I tried a lot but the account could not be recovered ItsSkV08 (talk) 12:40, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

Checkuser evidence is going to be stale in this case, so there's really nothing we can do. But also, no need to block it! Sounds like you can't log in and there's no reason to believe anyone else will be able to log into it either. You can just ignore the account! --Yamla (talk) 13:14, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
Thank you, Yamla. @ItsSkV08: like Yamla suggests, since it is not possible to authenticate that SmTkMrVrA is you, so you can just continue using your current account and not bother about the old one. --Ashleyyoursmile! 13:26, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

Thank you both of you ItsSkV08 (talk) 13:29, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

Review requests

Hi! Can you review these pages? (Article 1|Article 2|Article 3) Thank you! By the way, how can I get these new pages to be speedily reviewed? Should I submit those articles in draft format or move them to the mainspace first? Byy2 (talk) 13:31, 13 July 2021 (UTC)

Hi Byy2, hope you are well. I am not sure whether the subject of Article 1 is notable- the album did appear on one chart but I am not seeing significant coverage in multiple reliable independent sources, and the references used in the article look like reprints of press releases. I had originally created the redirect of Article 2 before obtaining my autopatrolled permission, so I won't be able to review this page as the review button does not show up. I am going to review Article 3 and leave the other two pages to be patrolled by NPP reviewers. If you submit drafts through Articles for Creation process, then these will be added first to the AfC backlog. After getting accepted, the articles usually get immediately listed at the new pages queue. So it's sort of a two-step process, and generally takes longer time. Also, AfC is recommended for new users who lack sufficient editing experience. Creating a page directly in mainspace will only add that page directly to the new pages queue, which as you have probably seen also has a huge backlog. Don't worry, someone will eventually get to your articles. --Ashleyyoursmile! 17:22, 13 July 2021 (UTC)
Okay then. Thank you for the explanation! And also thank you for the review! Byy2 (talk) 03:09, 14 July 2021 (UTC)

My Little Old Boy

Hi Ashley, can you take a look at My Little Old Boy, in particular edits made by 211.198.20.145, 220.121.35.62. IP has been constantly at random interval making disruptive edits by changing correct wikilink to incorrect wikilink for no reason in doing so. Previously, the same anon has been using 211.198.20.71 to made the same disruptive edits and was blocked 24 hours after reported to AIV. My Little Old Boy isn't the only article that is affected as seen from the diff via the contributions logs. I don't think IP is planning to stop anytime soon hence would appreciate if you could be blocked the IP or semi-protect the My Little Old Boy. Thanks you. Paper9oll (🔔📝) 01:33, 13 July 2021 (UTC).

— Maile (talk) 00:02, 14 July 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for this and many other women from Sweden who worked for culture! - Did you see the strange discussion about the infobox of one of them? I thought the times were over by 2018, sigh. "Yay!", or: "And, no, there haven't been infobox squabbles in ages. I personally use them all the time now for biographies and operas. There are a few diehards left, but the general attitude from both perspectives seems to have settled on live and let live." (by Voceditenore, 12 October 2018) - Live and live, that translates to me to: when you see an article without infobox, let it be, and when you see one with infobox, let it be. For me, really, taking away what others created is a worse damage to peace in the topic than creating and adding something. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:33, 14 July 2021 (UTC)

Gerda Arendt, it was an honour to work with editors under WP:WPWIR and write biographies of Swedish women. :) I just received the pings on the talk page of Branka Veselinović and responded there. Honestly, didn't think this would become a big deal. ;/ Ashleyyoursmile! 17:42, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
I envy every user who didn't waste precious time in infobox discussions. This one wasn't necessary. Let's avoid the next one ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:48, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
I've been adding infoboxes to articles on Lakes, Rivers, Mountains and Glaciers for weeks. There is actually a category for Geography articles without the infoboxes. I don't understand the big deal with an infobox. --ARoseWolf 18:04, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
ARoseWolf, me neither. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Ashleyyoursmile! 18:23, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
So, just return it, - it's only commented out. (If you don't want to "decide" as principal editor, decide by consensus, admin!) ARoseWolf, you could say this on the article talk. Usually it's no big deal. Why this one article in three years, I don't know. Looking at actresses, it seems a rather common feature. But I know a dear editor who was ready to improve Audrey Hepburn on the condition that he - then principal editor - might remove the infobox, and who dropped the plan - returning books to the library - when I warned that this traditional practise - improve and in the process silently let a years-old infobox disappear without an edit summary saying so - would no longer be acceptable. Times really changed towards seeing the value the box has for some readers (sometimes labelled idiots, which is enough for me to have one, I am ready to also serve idiots). See also User:RexxS/Infobox factors, and if the whole thing means reading too much there's the last para, foreign visitors. The English Wikipedia is read by many readers all over the world for whom English prose is not digested easily, - this article exists only in few languages. I'd almost say the smaller the number of Languages, the more important an infobox gets. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:15, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
Hi Gerda Arendt, I do feel bad about deciding as the principal editor so I have left my response as a vote this time. Ashleyyoursmile! 16:06, 15 July 2021 (UTC)
Understand. I'll unwatch, life is too short to deal with the everlasting arguments that were refuted hundred times. Not for an actress, not for short articles, ... - nothing substantial. - Just don't forget the infobox next time ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:40, 15 July 2021 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, I won't forget. 🤭 Ashleyyoursmile! 16:34, 16 July 2021 (UTC)

Deleted my user page

Why was my user page deleted? I read the rules. This is an encyclopedia, yes? I was trying to add information which belongs here on an information database. What are the reasons, why my page did not fit the criteria? What Information was my page deleted for? And Ultimately how can I create a page dedicated to my information I was trying to add? Bmguitar89 (talk) 03:30, 19 July 2021 (UTC)

Bmguitar89, welcome to Wikipedia. The reason your userpage was deleted is because you included links to social networking sites such as Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. Personal userpages should not be used as social networking service, website, blog, résumé, or cloud. Please see WP:NOTWEBHOST. If you intend to start an article, then please read WP:AFC and WP:YFA. Thank you. Ashleyyoursmile! 03:40, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
Bmguitar89, It seems to me that you have a misunderstanding about the purpose of Wikipedia, which is absolutely not an "information database". If so, there would be Wikipedia articles about my house, myself, my wife and my three person small business. Plenty of "database" information exists about those four topics, but none are eligible for Wikipedia articles. Instead, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia which contains articles only about topics that are Notable, which means that they have been the subject of significant coverage in several independent, reliable sources. That limitation applies to imitation articles on user pages as well. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 03:44, 19 July 2021 (UTC)

And youd be correct i did not understand exactly what the intentions of wikipedia are. But thank you for helping me to a better understanding. What does coverage by indepent, reliable sources mean? I asked in the teahouse if it was possible to make a page about local or unsigned bands. It would create a one page stop shop to someone who has seen or listened to the bands and maybe cant remember their name. Or some information about these bands for nostalgic purposes to the listener or friends, etc... I apologize about adding links. I honestly didn't read the rules before trying to create a page. Thank you again for helping me to understand how all this works. Bmguitar89 (talk) 04:06, 19 July 2021 (UTC)

Bmguitar89, independent, reliable sources are those with professional editorial control and a reputation for accuracy and correcting errors, and the "independent" part means that it is original reporting and not a rewrite of band press releases and public relations. Rolling Stone is a reliable source for American contemporary music and the New York Times is a broader reliable source for news and cultural developments. But those are just examples of sources with high standards. There are many thousands of professionally edited reliable sources. Is it possible for a local or unsigned band to be eligible for a Wikipedia article? It is possible but unlikely. If the band has received in depth coverage from Rolling Stone and the New York Times, or other high quality reliable sources, then it is very likely that an acceptable article about that local band could be written. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 04:29, 19 July 2021 (UTC)

July corner

June continued ... last year's flowers match the image on the user page nicely, see? - DYK that her last reply to me was in a thread Green for hope? - The DYK set in honour of Yoninah appeared yesterday, including Psalm 85, with the kiss of justice and peace - we wrote that together.

Fourth of July: Brian's birthday, remembered in gratitude for his unfailing inspiration and support - remember the Chapel - the missed - the music? - Can I interest you in a user's first FAC, Carillon? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:12, 4 July 2021 (UTC)

DYK for Gun Bergman

On 28 July 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Gun Bergman, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Gun Bergman produced the Swedish translation of Nobel laureate Ivo Andrić's best-known work, The Bridge on the Drina? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Gun Bergman. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Gun Bergman), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Duncan Edwards

Why don't you go check the source and check if they have made a mistake.

I removed source because it was wrong, I clearly explained how it was wrong. Yet, you still reroll it.

Duncan Edwards is the grandson of Hannah Edwards née Harrington. Her sister is Beatrice Stevens née Harrington. Dennis Stevens is the son of Beatrice. You have a generation gap back to common ancestor. Dennis Stevens is Duncan Edwards first cousin once removed. If you do not know anything about ancestry then pay a genealogist to tell you that I'm right at that source is wrong! I do not do this editing stuff and do not care to learn, but if I know something is wrong then I will change it. And if the editing is done by people who keep reverting back to source material that is clearly wrong then what good is this wikipedia? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.42.64.4 (talk) 16:38, 12 July 2021 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Hello IP :)! When we make changes to articles on Wikipedia it is policy to add a reliable source to such changes. In this case you did not provide a source that confirmed the information you were trying to provide. If you have a source for what you are claiming then please provide that source. Once your additions/removals were reverted you should have taken it to the articles Talk Page and provided your source. This is how we verify what is trying to be added or removed from the article. Reverting it again to a state that you feel is correct implies ownership which is against Wikipedia policy. If you want the information you are providing to be included then please start a new section on the article talk page. If you have any issues with editing or would like to learn more then I encourage you to see the Teahouse. --ARoseWolf 17:59, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
I opened dialogue for you, IP, to add your sources. If sources are not added to verify the claims then the information needs to be reverted to a more stable position of the article which is sourced to the information provided. --ARoseWolf 18:19, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
IP, looks like ARoseWolf has explained everything perfectly. Thank you very much, ARoseWolf. Much appreciated. I don't have anything more to add to that. Please feel free to provide a reliable source that supports the information you want to add to the article. You can use the talk page thread to discuss any further issues with the article. Happy editing! --Ashleyyoursmile! 18:47, 12 July 2021 (UTC)

How do people get it through to you people ARoseWolf & Ashleyyoursmile ? The source in which you are stating for the relationship between Duncan and Dennis is wrong. The actual source is wrong, because it is said in a book or newspaper column that Dennis Stevens is the first cousin of Duncan Edwards that does not make that source correct. The author of that material is wrong, yet you are reverting back to a statement that is wrong in a source. That newspaper column is wrong, base likely on the fact that the information is irrelevant at that time of writing and that the space in a newspaper is at a premium.

Now, I know the source material. birth certificates, marriage certificates, etc, for said family are located at Dudley Archives. I have viewed them all personally, I come from a genealogist background and have studied various family trees over many years at Dudley Archives. I can tell you and prove it from a genealogical point of view, that the information you keep reverting back to and that source material is wrong. I do not know of a book source, or newspaper source that can verify what I am telling you, I do not even think it is mentioned in Jim Cadman's latest book. So... where do we go from here? I have worked with various people and family members of the Edwards family over the last 5 years.

This is the family link... Duncan Edwards was born 1936 to Gladstone and Sarah Ann Edwards née Harrison. His parents were married in 1933. Gladstone's mother is Hannah Edwards née Harrington who was born in 1871 and her sister Beatrice who was born in 1888. Their parents were Thomas and Elizabeth Harrington née Hadley. There are other children in this relationship, but we will focus on the key ones Hannah and Beatrice. Beatrice married James Stevens in 1909 and Dennis Stevens was born in 1933 from this relationship. Dennis has various brothers and sisters, but again we will stick to the key people. Can you see how there is a generation gap between Duncan and Dennis? The common ancestor is Hannah Harrington, this makes Dennis Stevens first cousin once removed of Duncan Edwards and not cousin, Gladstone Edwards on the other hand and Dennis Stevens are cousins, because Beatrice Stevens née Harrington is Gladstone's Auntie. If you can find a source other than me for this information, good luck to you. I know of a possible book that will contain it in the future. I can not see the reason why you continue to use a source for article that is wrong. In the interest of accuracy it would be better to leave it out completely, but where would that leave your articles?

So, tell me where do we go from here? — Preceding unsigned comment added by JamesHadleyTM (talkcontribs) 13 July 2021 (UTC)

Please provide a link to the book/newspaper column, where the information you are saying is mentioned, at Talk:Duncan Edwards#Content Dispute. Any further discussion related to this page should take place there. All content on Wikipedia must be verifiable and must have been published previously by a reliable source. Personal analysis, beliefs, or views of editors should not be added to articles simply because they consider them to be correct and editors may not remove sources' views from articles just because they disagree with them. Please see our policies on Verifiability and no original research. --Ashleyyoursmile! 06:05, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
Techinically, the source is not wrong. They are cousins, even if what you say is correct. You are just trying to add information that adds further descriptors to what is there. The fact that the current source of the information leaves out "first" before "cousin" does not change that the source calls them cousins. If you want to have that altered then lets discuss it and try to find a reliable source for your information. It must be published somewhere in a reliable independent secondary source, as pointed out by Ashley, to fulfill the basic criteria. Your firsthand knowledge of documents which reveal this is, unfortunately, not permissible as a source per encyclopedic policies. --ARoseWolf 17:39, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
Ashleyyoursmile, this was an SPA with a clear agenda to disregard Wikipedia policies to alter information they felt was inaccurate by any means. They stated on their talk page they were brought here by the family or a family friend which indicates a clear COI to which they refuse to properly disclose. They arbitrarily declared the dispute over before it had concluded and have seemingly retired having only edited two articles, both related to the subject that they were brought here to make changes to. This is a clear case of the family feeling they own the article on Duncan and this SPA being their spokesperson to affect said change. If you look at the source they provide with their information, it is not written in the voice of the publication but a source who makes the claim with seemingly no editorial oversight and no further explanation of where the information came from. The SPA mentioned family records but can not provide those records or an independent source which publishes those records. We can not roll back the changes to the article without rolling back good faith edits that were made after the fact by other editors. This should have been properly discussed on the talk page but the SPA refused to discuss the changes only stating that they are right and we are wrong because they just are and we need to accept that. The content is not so much the issue as this flies in the face of every good faith editor who follows the rules, including those with a stated COI. --ARoseWolf 14:10, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
ARoseWolf, thank you for bringing this to my attention. As you pointed out, and from what they wrote on their talk page, they seem to have a COI with the subjects, and the source isn't entirely independent. I agree that such a disputed source should not be used in the article. --Ashleyyoursmile! 14:36, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
We now have James returning as the IP and pretending to be someone else or we have someone new taking over the former IP. This IP added the retired template to James' talk page and then tried to have it deleted stating that they revoke our use of their name. They have a very common misconception that they own their user page and talk page just as they seemingly had a misconception that they represented the Edwards family which owned the article on Duncan and could therefore make changes and it had to be accepted because they are the expert and are close to the family. I have not responded to their comments on the articles talk page (See Talk:Duncan Edwards#Content Dispute). --ARoseWolf 20:18, 28 July 2021 (UTC)
ARoseWolf, thank you for monitoring the page. Much appreciated. It appears that admins Explicit and Liz have since declined their talk page speedy deletion requests. I looked at the talk page discussion, and also checked the edit history of article. Since both the IP and the account are not edit-earring on the article, I don't see the need of any further action at this time. --Ashleyyoursmile (talk) 10:03, 29 July 2021 (UTC)

Munly Jay Munly

Hello, you recently left a message concerning the editing of the page titled Jay Munly-which is technically incorrect. I am a relation; I can speak with certainty that his name is Munly Jay Munly. The article cited is simply incorrect and was most likely sourced unreliably...as are other portions of the article. I hope this is enough information and will now be left to remain as correct. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:282:d00:e710:4146:69d8:c77f:f142 (talkcontribs)

About the Dharampal Wiki entry ...

Mr Justiyaya, after all the discussion of July 3rd, 2021, which established the fact that there were no Copyright violations because the tool threw up common phrases, titles, authors and descriptions as infractions, it was decided that I would not face any impediments in making some stylistic changes and publishing them as the new Wiki Entry. However, I find that the changes have been reversed by https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Joshua_Jonathan. What can I do about this? Can you please let me know? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jksuresh (talkcontribs) 24 July 2021 (UTC)

Help

Recently you declined my Roll back permission . Reason " you haven't disclose my past account தனீஷ் . How can I disclose my past account . Please help to disclose Ram Dhaneesh (talk) 07:22, 29 July 2021 (UTC)

Ram Dhaneesh, that was only a part of the reason why your request was declined. Rollback is generally granted to users who have shown a measurable track record of counter-vandalism work. Admins like to see some experience in reverting vandalism and warning the vandals, and also their understanding of good faith and vandalism edits. A good place to start is to read WP:VAND, WP:AGF, WP:WARN, and start patrolling the recent changes log to detect these edits, revert them and then warn the vandal. You could start doing it manually at first and then switch over to automated tools such as Twinkle or RedWarn. You could also try looking into the WP:CVUA to learn more about the correct approaches in combating vandalism on Wikipedia. There are experienced instructors to guide you through the process. After gathering more experience in counter-vandalism, please make another request for the permission at WP:PERM/R. Ashleyyoursmile (talk) 09:51, 29 July 2021 (UTC)

I came across Kongu Vellalar after many months and I found User:TheBrokenTusk (now blocked for abusing socks) has added a section "Varna classification" where the account mistakenly added about another community called Vellalar. Also the a word "bhu-vaishya" is added in the etymology without proof. I request you to remove it because the account is a sock. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2409:4072:308:6c14:bedd:a39f:1715:2777 (talkcontribs) 08:13, 3 August 2021 (UTC)

How would I reference this?

You recently flagged the following comment as being without references:

Currently (2021) seven out of the ten constructor teams in Formula 1 are based close to London in an area centred around Oxford. Ferrari is the only constructor which produces road cars and Formula 1 cars at the same site, which is also the company Headquarters, in Maranello, Italy. The Alpha Tauri team is based close to Ferrari in Faenza, whilst the Alpha Romeo team is based near Zurich in Switzerland.

Although the location of team HQ's is common knowledge in F1 circles, I did check the information using the Wikipedia page 'List of Formula 1 constructors'. Of course citing that page would be self referential, so I thought I would see how that page referenced the source of information. It didn't.

One possibility would be to include links to the individual teams websites, but that would be 10 links. Would that be appropriate?

The reason I added this note is that whilst Formula 1 is an international sport with races and drivers from all over the world, the teams themselves come from a very limited area. I think it's relevant and worth noting, and it is verifiable. But it is also an 'original' observation. Maybe then it is not appropriate? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.94.115.69 (talk) 11:23, 5 August 2021 (UTC)

Hi IP, thank you for your contributions. Any information that is added to a Wikipedia article should be verifiable, which means it should have been previously published by reliable independent sources. These sources could be links to reputed magazines, news websites, or printed book sources. So if you have such a source which directly supports the information that you were trying to add, please feel free to re-add it to the Formula 1 page. After adding the content to the page, just insert the link of the website in place of the three dots: <ref>...</ref> and click on the "Publish changes" button. You can look at WP:REFBEGIN to learn more. Thank you.--Viridian Bovary (talk) 11:44, 5 August 2021 (UTC)
