Hello, Restinghand, and welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of the pages you created, such as User:Restinghand, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's content policies and may not be retained. In short, the topic of an article must be notable and have already been the subject of publication by reliable and independent sources.

Please review Your first article for an overview of the article creation process. The Article Wizard is available to help you create an article, where it will be reviewed and considered for publication. For information on how to request a new article that can be created by someone else, see Requested articles. If you are stuck, come to the Teahouse, where experienced Wikipedians can help you through the processes.

Hi

Thanks for the advice. Would you and others from the community be able to help me with this page to make it suitable for Wikipedia? :) Restinghand (talk) 21:35, 29 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I’m new here. I wanted to make a page for 108Mics — a blog that focuses on promoting underground musicians. I tried submitting the page but it has been deleted as it doesn’t match the criteria. Can someone please advise what I need to do to make the page suitable for Wikipedia. Thank you Restinghand (talk) 21:39, 29 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You edited your user page, which is not article space or space to draft an article, but a place to tell about yourself as a Wikipedia editor or user. New users cannot directly create articles and must use Articles for Creation. Be advised that successfully creating a new article is the hardest thing to do on Wikipedia. New users who dive right in can end up disappointed, frustrated, and angry as things they don't understand happen to something they spent hours on. It is usually recommended to first gain experience by editing existing articles in areas that interest you, to get a feel for how Wikipedia operates and what is expected of article content. Using the new user tutorial is also a good idea.
Wikipedia is not a place to just tell about something. A Wikipedia article must summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about (in this case) a website, showing how it meets Wikipedia's special definition of a notable website. You only had one source, which was an interview, which is not acceptable for establishing notability. Please read Your First Article. 331dot (talk) 22:25, 29 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict)

Sorry, I can't read what was deleted from your user page, but that was not the right place to start writing an article.
In order for there to be a Wikipedia article, you first need to have sources that have written about the subject. We need to see in-depth coverage from independent reporters published by outfits with a reputation for editorial control and fact checking. Without such sources, there is nothing to write about. You can't just write some stuff you know to be true and publish it. It has to be backed up by sources.
When I did a quick search on Google for "108mics", all I found was a link to their YouTube channel. This is not enough. If there's more to be found, you'd need to bring it forward in the form of references in your draft.
Creating new articles on Wikipedia is hard. You may find it beneficial to spend considerable time (2 months? 200 edits?) improving existing articles before attempting to create a new one. It will still be hard, but perhaps less frustrating. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 22:34, 29 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok thank you for the advice. It’s much appreciated. I did provide references in the draft though I must not have have quoted them correctly; I also put the draft in the wrong place which doesn’t help. The “108Mics” YouTube channel is not what I’m referring to. That’s someone else. The subject is a website. My guess is that using the website as a reference isn’t sufficient, right. Thanks anyway Restinghand (talk) 16:21, 30 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Just to clarify, could you give examples of independent reporters so I know in future. I’m not exactly sure what this means. (Restinghand (talk) 16:24, 30 December 2021 (UTC))[reply]
We talk about 'independent reporters' to convey the idea that we want to use secondary sources written by people who have 'taken note of' the subject without the subject reaching out or paying for coverage. Sometimes a lack of independence is hard to discern from a specific article, but can sometimes be surmised by surveying the writer's other work. Sources written by non-independent reporters can still be used in limited ways, but are unable to help with establishing overall notability, which is an important hurdle that a draft must keep in mind. Reviewers will appreciate drafts that focus on notability; additional references can be added to expand the article after acceptance. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 17:20, 30 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
