Fair use rationale for Image:Sodam Yat Ion.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Sodam Yat Ion.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --βandβ (talkcontribs) 09:51, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you want that comment included, it is incumbent upon you to verify that this individual is capable of displaying more power than anyone else in the DCU. No such evidence has yet been provided. I wish to inform you that continuing to revert the inclusion of such unsourced material could very easily result in a block being placed. If you can in fact verify that this individual is more powerful than the Spectre (comics), Monitor (comics), Daniel Hall and each and every other "hero" in DC Comics, I would welcome the inclusion of the appropriate information. However, unless that statement is clearly and explicitly made by a verifiable, reliable source, addition of such information is a clear and explicit violation of WP:OR and/or WP:SYN. I suggest you review both such pages. Thank you. John Carter

What is required is an explicit quotation which clearly and explicitly describes the entity as being the single most powerful hero in the DC Universe. Frankly, given the extremity of the claim, I think you can readily understand that such a quotation would be required. Simple citation of a source, without either page number or quotation, does not meet that requirement. Reverting until explicit quotation which unambiguously directly makes the statement claimed is added. Also, you really should review Wikipedia:Citing sources. And, finally, it should be clear that the character (I'm assuming it is a character) is him or herself using the term in a clearly objective and neutral way, and that there is no possibility of the person making the statement being less than completely informed about all the other heroes out there (which would make that character's claim unreliable) and that the character were not using the description rhetorically. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Sodam Yat Secret Files.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Sodam Yat Secret Files.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 22:50, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Main soundwave.png. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by STBotI. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 21:04, 16 May 2008 (UTC)==Image copyright problem with Image:Soundwave toy.jpeg==[reply]

Image Copyright problem

Hi Retroqqq!
We thank you for uploading Image:Soundwave toy.jpeg, but there is a problem. Your image is currently missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. Unless you can help by adding a copyright tag, it may be deleted by an Administrator. If you know this information, then we urge you to add a copyright tag to the image description page. We apologize for this, but all images must confirm to policy on Wikipedia.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks so much for your cooperation.

The GLC

[edit]

An "arbitrary sub set" is just that.

In this case, it is a collection of GLC members based just on which ones happen to be in the picture. In this case it's drop one, add 5, but still miss at least 4 prominent characters in addition to the drop.

Beyond that there are a few of other issues with the image:

  • Size - the 400px across size is much larger than it needs to be.
  • Source - Where, exactly, was this lifted from? Did you scan it? Is it a file you found on a website?
  • Original non-Wiki published use - What GL related publication or product is it taken from?

Oh... and two last things:

  • By Wiki's NFC policy, non-free content cannot be placed anywhere other than in article space. That includes the article talk pages. If you are going to suggest changing the infobox image, please use the [[:Image:...]] syntax for for images that exists on Wiki and an URL link for images that either don't or could wind up being deleted before the discussion is done.
  • Wiki runs on consensus, not "voting". If there is a consensus that based on solid reasons, that's what will be used. This means that even if the majority of the "votes" are one way, if they are based on a poor or invalid reason(s), then the consensus will not mirror the "vote".

File source problem with File:Honeybadger3.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Honeybadger3.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 22:24, 5 October 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 22:24, 5 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Retroqqq. I reverted your most recent edit to this article[1], as there is not consensus for it; indeed, consensus at this minute seems to be in the other direction. I suggest you go to the talk page and talk, discuss, there. Also, be very careful of saying things like you will not remove this map and hide the truth. no way. i will not allow it which is an awfully clear statement of OWNership, and possibly an assumption of poor faith. Cheers, LindsayHi 12:09, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Retroqqq I'll answer your question on the article talk page if that's ok.--Andrew Lancaster (talk) 14:25, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I see you have a long history of uploading copyrighted material. Apparently you decided you can just upload random material you found on the internet and which you think would make a nice addition to Wikipedia, just by calling "fair use". This is not the case. We have very specific criteria for fair use content, and uploading nonfree content is discouraged even then. Be aware that while everyone can make mistakes, if you should continue your blatant disregard of project policy this will be considered as falling under WP:DISRUPT sooner or later. --dab (𒁳) 13:35, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
