Administrators' newsletter – March 2019

News and updates for administrators from the past month (February 2019).

Guideline and policy news

Technical news

  • A new tool is available to help determine if a given IP is an open proxy/VPN/webhost/compromised host.

Arbitration

  • The Arbitration Committee announced two new OTRS queues. Both are meant solely for cases involving private information; other cases will continue to be handled at the appropriate venues (e.g., WP:COIN or WP:SPI).
    • paid-en-wp@wikipedia.org has been set up to receive private evidence related to abusive paid editing.
    • checkuser-en-wp@wikipedia.org has been set up to receive private requests for CheckUser. For instance, requests for IP block exemption for anonymous proxy editing should now be sent to this address instead of the functionaries-en list.

Rollback

Hi RhinosF1. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:36, 11 March 2019 (UTC)

Please participate to the talk pages consultation

Hello

Our team at the Wikimedia Foundation is working on a project to improve the ease-of-use and productivity of wiki talk pages. As a Teahouse host, I can imagine you’ve run into challenges explaining talk pages to first-time participants.

We want all contributors to be able to talk to each other on the wikis – to ask questions, to resolve differences, to organize projects and to make decisions. Communication is essential for the depth and quality of our content, and the health of our communities. We're currently leading a global consultation on how to improve talk pages, and we're looking for people that can report on their experiences using (or helping other people to use) wiki talk pages. We'd like to invite you to participate in the consultation, and invite new users to join too.

We thank you in advance for your participation and your help.

History of Einstein

The new section of "The History" of Albert Einstein High School is completely irrelevant and in bad taste. I'm an alumni from the school, and I never heard it be called "Crimestein", as if that's an official name. When I saw that section I honestly thought it was a prank from a rival school. It needs to be remove before parents of current students see it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by EPJ2020 (talkcontribs) 16:43, 11 March 2019 (UTC)

EPJ2020, Thanks for clarifying your reasons. I suggest in this case you discuss on the article talk page. In future please enter a quick description / reason for your edit in the edit summary box. RhinosF1(chat)(status)(contribs) 17:21, 11 March 2019 (UTC)

Einstein Colors

Einstein also added black as a official school color. — Preceding unsigned comment added by EPJ2020 (talkcontribs) 16:45, 11 March 2019 (UTC)

EPJ2020, You can make the edit yourself as long as you have a Independant, reliable source or if you feel you have a conflict of interest follow that policy. Please also sign posts with ~~~~. RhinosF1(chat)(status)(contribs) 17:51, 11 March 2019 (UTC)
