August 2023[edit]

Hello, I'm LizardJr8. I noticed that in this edit to Troy Halpin, you removed content without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. LizardJr8 (talk) 01:10, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not remove content or templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did at Troy Halpin, without giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your content removal does not appear to be constructive and has been reverted. If you only meant to make a test edit, please use your sandbox for that. Thank you. Edward-Woodrow :) [talk] 01:11, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I’m sorry but this page has information about me..!
i am Troy Halpin & I would like all this information removed. Rightthewrongs10 (talk) 01:14, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You at Wikipedia or whoever you are have also allowed others to edit this page about me that were totally incorrect in what was edited about my life. Funny how you allowed that but wont let me - the person this page is written about - delete it. Rightthewrongs10 (talk) 01:43, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Rightthewrongs10.
I notice that you are trying to edit an article that is about yourself. We highly discourage editors from writing or editing about themselves, due to the clear conflict of interest. Please see our policy on this at Wikipedia:Autobiography.
You must also understand that you do not own your article. The Wikipedia article Troy Halpin is about you and is not controlled by you, or anyone else. This is a fundamental principle of Wikipedia. Please see our policy: Wikipedia:Ownership of content.
If you want to make large changes to your article then please make an Wikipedia:Edit requests.
If you have any questions, we have a friendly space where experienced editors can help you here: Get help at the Teahouse, or you can click Reply on this message. Qcne (talk) 09:24, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi
Whether the article is owned by me or not isn’t the point here. There is no conflict of interest if I am trying to delete the information. I am not trying to add anything or make this page look better to suit myself. Just to delete it so that I do not have to see it or hear about it ever again.
Thank you Rightthewrongs10 (talk) 09:30, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for clarifying. What I have done is raised this as a new ticket on the Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard, and we'll get some uninvolved editors to have a look and hopefully come to some sort of mutually agreeable resolution.
Feel free to reply on that above ticket with any pertinent information. Qcne (talk) 09:40, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate your reply.
Thankyou Rightthewrongs10 (talk) 10:07, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, Rightthewrongs10. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. GraziePrego (talk) 09:22, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi
My only conflict of interest is that I am Troy Halpin and I am the person this Wikipedia page is written about. I just don’t want this information of my life online & I believe that should be all that matters. Rightthewrongs10 (talk) 09:26, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That's all that's needed for it to be a complete conflict of interest. As the warning above says, "avoid editing or creating articles about yourself". You do not own the article, you cannot just delete it because it is about you. GraziePrego (talk) 09:57, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
A conflict of interest would be if I was trying to edit a page written about me to make it look better.
Not by deleting it forever.
It’s also funny you say that as there have been previous edits containing false information that were allowed to be posted.
So I can’t delete a page written about me but your administrators will allow people to post false information.
Yes, that sounds like the internet to me.
At the end of the day, a persons mental health is more important then some rubbish information written about them on the internet.
I would also caution to be careful when you dealing with a persons mental health. Rightthewrongs10 (talk) 10:06, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've made a suggestion at Talk:Troy Halpin. It may very well not satisfy anyone but I hoped it might be a useful place to start discussions. Mgp28 (talk) 10:20, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Pinging editors from conversation above @Qcne, Edward-Woodrow, and LizardJr8: Mgp28 (talk) 10:24, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
FYI I also made a noticeboard incident at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard Qcne (talk) 10:25, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks - is that where I should be replying? Mgp28 (talk) 10:25, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Either, I don't mind :). I think your suggestion on the article Talk page was good. I think the key thing is to understand exactly what @Rightthewrongs10 would like removing and how best to implement the changes. Qcne (talk) 10:35, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm okay with all of this discussion and the talk page entry in particular. I reverted one edit that removed the entire infobox and some other text with what I thought was a strange edit summary ("Deleted outdated information that is not relevant to my own life.") since I didn't know at the time that this was by the subject of the article -- it sounded like an unconnected troll edit from someone bored.
I would just like to see it comply with sourcing and COI policies in the end. LizardJr8 (talk) 17:13, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
“A conflict of interest would be if I was trying to edit a page written about me to make it look better. Not by deleting it forever.” Is incorrect.
The conflict of interest you have exists regardless of your intention. GraziePrego (talk) 10:48, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Problems in an article about you[edit]

Hi @Rightthewrongs10, please could I ask you to take a moment to read Wikipedia:Autobiography#Problems_in_an_article_about_you and Wikipedia:Contact_us/Article_subjects. These short paragraphs explain how to handle any problems you have with an article where you are the subject.

Please do not edit the article directly yourself. Instead, please use the instructions I've linked to above to raise any problems and we'll deal with them as speedily as we can.

However, Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia and it is our mission to collate and publish all the verifiable information we can. If you are a public figure and you do not like some of the information in the public domain about you, then I'm afraid you have no right to try to censor it. But if you have legitimate concerns about the accuracy of the information we publish, using the mechanisms I've linked to above is the best way to resolve that. Best wishes, WaggersTALK 13:54, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
